Pittsburgh Steelers release explosive ex-Eagles pass rusher after strong preseason

The Pittsburgh Steelers are cutting outside linebacker Kyron Johnson after a strong preseason and training camp showing, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2-TV in Houston. This likely signals that the Steelers will only keep three true outside linebackers on their initial roster, with Johnson getting the axe after the rise of DeMarvin Leal, who can play both inside and outside.

The Steelers have long talked about Leal’s versatility, and his ability to play inside and outside gives them flexibility. As for the rest of the tidal wave that could come out of this move, the Steelers will likely keep seven defensive linemen and five inside linebackers to make up for Johnson’s special teams.
