Former Lions Pro Bowler Allowed to Seek Out Trade by Current Team

Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow (77) stretches before the game against the Chicago Bears at Ford Field.

Nov 28, 2024; Detroit, Michigan, USA; Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow (77) stretches before the game against the Chicago Bears at Ford Field.

Over the past few seasons, the Detroit Lions have built one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. Their dominant offensive line has provided quarterback Jared Goff with clean pockets and helped establish a strong rushing attack. As a result, the Lions have put together their two best seasons in franchise history, both resulting in playoff berths.

That said, last offseason, Detroit decided to move on from one of their young offensive linemen. Former third-round pick Jonah Jackson wasn’t re-signed after his rookie contract expired. The 27-year-old guard signed a three-year $51 million contract with the Los Angeles Rams.

However, after just one season in Los Angeles, Jackson could already be moving on. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Rams gave Jackson permission to seek a trade on Wednesday.

Former Lions Pro Bowl Offensive Guard Jonah Jackson Given Permission to Seek a Trade

In four seasons with the Lions, Jackson nearly graded out in the top half of the league at guard twice, according to PFF. In 2021, Jackson earned the 33rd overall grade at guard with a rating of 69.3 and a 76.4 run blocking grade. In pass protection, Jackson allowed four sacks, nine QB hits, 22 QB hurries, and 35 QB pressures.

Jackson followed that season up with another great year in 2022. That season, Jackson was ranked the 34th best guard with an overall grade of 66.1 and a run-blocking grade of 70.3. Furthermore, he allowed four QB hits, 22 QB hurries, 26 QB pressures, and zero sacks. That performance earned him his lone Pro Bowl appearance in his five-year career.

This past season didn’t go well for Jackson. The 27-year-old began the year as the Rams’ left guard with 1.5 bad outings. During their Week 2 game, Jackson suffered a shoulder injury, which caused him to be placed on injured reserve. Upon his return in Week 10, he was moved to center, which lasted for one game.

After that, Jackson became a backup for the last seven weeks and only saw the field in Week 18 with the rest of the backups. Clearly, Los Angeles failed to get the best out of Jackson and quickly regretted the signing.

Nevertheless, Lions fans understand the role Jackson can play on a team and wish him luck in finding a trade partner.

    Warning.

After joining the Texas Longhorns in 2023, quarterback Arch Manning instantly became one of the biggest names in all of college football.

Whether it was for his play or his relation to NFL legends Peyton and Eli, Arch Manning was the top prospect in the class of 2023 (247Sports).

In an online interview with Sprung that was posted on TikTok, Arch Manning revealed some problems he has been dealing with on campus.

He was then asked if it might be different at smaller schools before the quarterback admitted that he had to reject a “visit” to Alabama due to his popularity.

He received many different offers from major college football programs across the country, but the top three contending teams came down to Texas, the Georgia Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Arch Manning is now anticipated to take over under center to start the 2025 season after Quinn Ewers left for the 2025 NFL draft, which has further increased his popularity and the buzz about him.

Arch Manning remarked, “It’s like my friends who travel to Alabama want me to come visit.”

“I’m not sure whether that’s the right course of action.

    Tuscaloosa. Austin is pleasant, though.

There are areas where you can sort of escape, and no one is aware of football. You’re merely another man.

Ultimately, Arch Manning chose Texas over Alabama and Georgia, crediting coach Steve Sarkisian for helping him come to a decision. “I can relate to [Sarkisian] because he’s younger,” Arch Manning told 247Sports in 2021. “It seems like we’re friends almost.

I like him a lot. He’d be a cool guy to get to play for.

Hopefully, he doesn’t get too many job offers and stays there. He’s a good guy.

I really like everyone I’ve met and have enjoyed building relationships and meeting different guys.”

The Longhorns’ Cotton Bowl rematch against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, August 30, will mark the start of the Arch Manning era.

  • Detroit Lions 2022 draft class eligible for contract extensions: A look at each decision

Detroit Lions 2022 draft class eligible for contract extensions: A look at each decision

Members of the Detroit Lions 2022 draft class are entering the final year of their rookie NFL contracts.

Five of the eight players the Lions drafted in 2022, including Aidan Hutchinson and Jameson Williams, are still on the roster.

The Detroit Lions front office can lock up key pieces of its core long-term beginning this offseason.

Members of the Lions 2022 draft class are entering the final year of their rookie NFL contracts, meaning players like edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson, wide receiver Jameson Williams and safety Kerby Joseph are now eligible to receive contract extensions.

Five of the eight players the Lions drafted in 2022 — Hutchinson, Williams, Joseph, edge rusher Josh Paschal and linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez — are still on the roster. Fifth-round tight end James Mitchell, sixth-round edge rusher James Houston and seventh-round cornerback Chase Lucas are no longer Lions players.

Hutchinson and Williams, the No. 2 and No. 12 overall picks in 2022, also have a fifth-year option on their rookie deal, meaning the Lions can extend their original deals through 2026 and also offer an extension. Last offseason, the Lions picked up the fifth-year option for right tackle Penei Sewell while also signing him to a four-year contract extension to keep him in Detroit through the 2029 season.

Here’s what a potential extension could look like for each player.

    Aidan Hutchinson

Hutchinson was on pace to have a record-breaking season before breaking his leg in October. Before going down, Hutchinson had 7½ sacks and 45 pressures in five games, according to Pro Football Focus. He would have likely made his first All-Pro team if he had stayed healthy, but instead he spent most of the season recovering and rehabbing from the injury. Hutchinson expects to be fully healthy by the start of the 2025 season.

There are four different tiers of fifth-year option salaries based on a player’s accomplishments on a rookie deal. As a one-time Pro Bowler and his position as an edge rusher, Hutchinson’s fifth-year option is projected to be worth $23.19 million, according to Over the Cap.

An extension would likely make Hutchinson one of the highest-paid players in the NFL because of his value at a key position. The highest-paid defensive linemen in the NFL are Nick Bosa, who signed a five-year $170 million extension worth $34 million a year, and Josh Hines-Allen, who signed for five years at $141.25 million worth $28.25 million a year.

The top five edge rusher deals occupied between 11% and 15% of their team’s overall cap space at the time of signing, according to Spotrac. That would likely be a similar range for Hutchinson.

The NFL is projecting the 2025 salary cap to jump to somewhere between $277.5 to $281.5 million. A deal worth 10% of the cap would be worth between $27.75 million and $28.15 million per season, which would be worth $138.75 million and $140.75 million in a five-year contract. If the deal is closer to 15% like Bosa, the annual average value could be $41.63 million and $42.23 million, which would come out to from $208.15 million to $211.13 million over five years.

    Jameson Williams

Williams is eligible for the basic fifth-year option worth $15.55 million after not meeting the requirements for play time or Pro Bowl appearances in his first three seasons.

Williams stepped into a key role in the offense in 2024 after struggling to find the field as a rookie and sophomore as a result of injuries and off-the-field issues. He had 58 catches for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns as the Lions second receiver.

Receiver contracts have drastically increased in recent years, as evidenced by Amon-Ra St. Brown’s extension last offseason. The highest-paid second receivers on a team are Jaylen Waddle, who signed an extension worth $28.25 million a year last offseason, and Devonta Smith, who signed an extension worth $25 million a year.

Williams does not have the same level of production of those two and has only one year of consistent production under his belt, which will likely bring his deal lower than those two. The Lions could also hand Williams the fifth-year option and wait to extend him until next offseason to gauge his value after another season as a full-time starter.

    Kerby Joseph

Joseph had a breakout season in 2024. He earned first-team All-Pro honors at safety after leading the NFL in interceptions.

Joseph is entering the fourth and final year of his contract as a third-round pick. At his end-of-season press conference, general manager Brad Holmes said a Joseph extension is “on the docket in terms of to be looked at and discussed” and stressed it is always his goal to keep good players in Detroit.

The highest-paid safety in the NFL, Tampa’s Antoine Winfield Jr., signed a four-year $84.1 million deal last offseason worth just north of $21 million a year. The next two highest-paid safeties, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Derwin James, are on deals worth $18.4 and $19.1 million a year.

All of the deals for the top-paid safeties were worth between 6% and 8% of the cap when signing, which could put Joseph in the market to sign an extension of around $16 million to $23 million if Detroit deems him worthy of one of the top safety contracts in the NFL.

    Josh Paschal

Paschal spent most of 2024 as a starting option on the defensive line after Hutchinson’s injury. The former second-round pick has been a rotational contributor his first three seasons with five career sacks and 12 tackles for loss.

It seems likely the Lions will let Paschal play out the final years of his deal without offering an extension, similar to what they did for defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike last season. However, an extension for a rotational edge rusher could cost around $5 to $10 million a year based on Spotrac’s list of defensive end contracts.

    Malcolm Rodriguez

Rodriguez has been a serviceable backup option at linebacker and started in place of an injured Alex Anzalone this season before going down with a torn ACL. In three seasons, he has 102 solo tackles and 10 tackles for loss.

The Lions could let Rodriguez play out his final year or try to lock him up to a relatively cheap deal while he recovers. Anzalone is on a contract worth $6.1 million a season, so any Rodriguez deal would likely be well south of that number.

High School Coach Points Fingers at Major Track & Field Mistake as Masai Russell Quits US Team Ahead of Grand Slam Track

On Saturday, Olympic gold medalist Masai Russell claimed her first U.S. indoor title in the 60m hurdles in 7.74 seconds—it was a personal best by one hundredth and the world’s best time of 2025. But even the best need a quick break, right? Russell understands this well. “For me personally and me mentally, I like to take a break before like spinning it up again,” she said after the win.

With this, the athlete will skip the World Indoors and instead choose to focus on her outdoor season. This could be an important decision in the long run to protect herself from fatigue. Now, Rob, who is a high school track and field coach, has shared his views on the same. On his YouTube channel, ‘Coach Rob Track and Field,’ he stated:

“Many of them aren’t even interested in going over to China to compete Indoors. I get it. Each of them have their reasons. Masai Russell set a new world lead… You probably didn’t get to watch it because it wasn’t available on a live television stream when they ran that event on Saturday.

“Either way, she [Masai Russell] is a part of Grand Slam Track, and because the world indoor meet conflicts with the schedule for Grand Slam Track, or at least it’s very close on the calendar. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to focus on that event when she could focus on the one she’s already contracted for, that does pay good money.

“That said, as a reigning Olympic gold medalist, I do have to give a shout-out to her for even showing up to run at Indoors at all.”

However, let us have a closer look at the scheduling issue. The social media handles of Grand Slam Track on September 25 last year announced Masai Russell’s name as the signed athlete for the league. Well, the schedule claims that the first installment of GST will come to Kingston, Jamaica, and go on from April 4 to 6. Masai Russell will show up at the event. But what about the World Athletics Indoor Championships in China?

The global contest will go on from March 21 to 23 in Nanjing, China. So, there will be almost a two-week gap between the World Athletics Indoor Championships and GST. Wouldn’t those days have given sufficient rest to an athlete to enter both events? Well, it could be that Russell would want to solely focus on one event.

In GST, the athletes have a contract to appear in each of the four Slams. Each Slam will come with $100,000 in purse for the topper (and the 8 place competitor will earn $10,000). So winning four Slams will allow the Olympian to take $400,000 home, plus will have more viewership. And what about the World Athletics Indoor Championships? A perfect number has yet to come. But it might not touch the amount GST has promised.

But let us look at things a bit deeper. Scheduling seems to be a problem. For instance, the JAAA held strong on the Jamaican National Championships dates from June 26-29, as athletes are also looking forward to the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo. However, this would cause scheduling conflicts with the Grand Slam.

But coming back to Russell, so far, what we know is the track and field athlete intends to next run the 100 or the 4×1 at Texas Relays and then the Grand Slam in Kingston. Her focus on the outdoor season could signal her interest in building upon her Olympic success. “It’s going to be fun. I mean, I’m not a 100 runner, but maybe it’ll turn into something—who knows? I’m bad, I can hurdle, and I’m fast, so maybe Gail Devers part two.”

But what else is on her plate?

Masai Russell prefers this track and field contest as her second choice

After the USA Indoor Championships, Masai Russell made another thing clear. In the mixed zone, she said, “I just think it’s going to set me up really great for the outdoor season because the season is very long this year, ends in September, so I want to make sure that I am ready to run, my mindset is there. And you know, my compass is still going into the world outdoors.”

However, it wasn’t the first time she said that. Right after defeating the world indoor champion Grace Stark by clocking 7.76 in the Millrose Games this year, she had hinted at it. What was it?

Masai Russell is looking forward to entering the World Athletics Championships in Japan, scheduled in September this year.

    via Reuters

After winning the Olympic and the national titles, she is yearning to carve her name in the world championship. Eyeing that, she told Citius Mag, “World indoors is very close to the first Grand Slam, so for me personally you know the goal is September.”

    Article continues below this ad

Moreover, she added, “I’m going to do US championships. That’ll be my last in season.” From that perspective, Masai Russell is advancing on the right path. She has set benchmarks in the indoor events. For now, the rest of the route is about to cover the outdoor ones. And we are looking forward to it.

  • Arsenal’s stance on sacking Mikel Arteta revealed as club insiders outline ‘shock’ at current discussions on future

Arsenal’s stance on sacking Mikel Arteta revealed as club insiders outline ‘shock’ at current discussions on future

    .

The manager has spent five years in charge at the Emirates Stadium, picking the Gunners up from European outsiders to Premier League title challengers.

In such a short amount of time, Arsenal have grown into one of the best teams in Europe, but haven’t won the silverware to show it.

That was very much the remit for most supporters and pundits ahead of the season for Mikel Arteta, though it’s one he seems set to fall short on.

The gap at the top of the Premier League has now grown to 13 points with Liverpool out in front, while exits from the Carabao Cup and FA Cup ended hope of a domestic trophy.

The Champions League remains the only likely chance of silverware, though a tough draw awaits the Gunners.

With expectations rising and fans talking about the future of the Arsenal manager, the board have made their decision clear.

Arsenal back Mikel Arteta amid managerial sacking discussion

Plenty of supporters have discussed the possibility of Arteta being sacked or resigning, with expectations rising over the manager.

    MORE ARSENAL STORIES

It seems as though Arsenal are set for a third second-place finish in the Premier League in a row, while silverware is down to the Champions League now, which comes with its own difficulties.

Despite the talk of needing to win now, the Arsenal board are set to back Arteta, TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey has told Arsenal Insider.

He said: “Mikel Arteta is secure in his job, not that he was worried – I don’t believe it has come up in conversation.

“I reached out to a number of sources around Arteta, just in the wake of some fan reaction but the messages back were conclusive, even some shock as to me asking.

“Arsenal as a club, I don’t believe have their head buried in the sand at all, they are just firmly in line over the belief that Arteta is doing a great job.

“Only one piece of silverware has arrived since he was appointed, but the work he has done with the squad and where the club is now in comparison is massively different there has been a huge, huge improvement. Arsenal are firmly behind Arteta, no doubting that.”

It’s an extremely clear stance from Arsenal over the manager, which they clearly have no intention of wavering from.

Mikel Arteta statistics prove continuity is key for Arsenal

If there’s one thing that Arsenal don’t need, it’s a lot of change at once and the past few years have proven that.

The squad, over time, has slowly transformed and grown into the side it is today without the quick panic churn seen at some other clubs which keeps them in crisis.

The pairing of Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar allowed them to spot the weaknesses the squad had to fix and grow them even further.

    Season Games played Points
    19/20 20 33
    20/21 38 61
    21/22 38 69
    22/23 38 84
    23/24 38 89
    24/25 27 54

Arsenal Premier League statistics under Mikel Arteta – correct as of 27/02/2025.

With Edu resigning and Arsenal on the hunt for a new sporting director, the plan should be to get the right person in place for a smooth transition.

Continuity has been key to the Gunners managing a rise to the top, even if it has required some changes, but removing both the head coach and having a new sporting director is a recipe for disaster.

Arteta has plenty of good will after leading Arsenal back to the top, so one poorer campaign is hardly likely to throw him out.

  • Four things we learnt from Palace’s demolition of Aston Villa

Four things we learnt from Palace’s demolition of Aston Villa

Four things we learnt from Palace’s demolition of Aston Villa

Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace side have one of the best records in the league when it comes to their away form, at home however it is a totally different story.

Before the game with Aston Villa the Eagles had only won twice at Selhurst Park in the league this season. This was all about to change however as Glasner’s side lead by an in form Ismailia Sarr overcome Villa by four goals to one.

After a dull first half hour Sarr put Palace into the lead when he reacted quickest to Emi Martinez’s save before Morgan Rodgers had a goal disallowed for offside shortly after.

Rodgers found the net again in the second half and this time it counted after half time substitute Robin Olsen’s long ball forward was flicked on by Ollie Watkins for Rodgers to finish.

This only spurred Palace on though as seven minutes later top scorer Jean-Phillipe Mateta made it 2-1. Sarr then grabbed his second of the night after he finished off superbly from a Daniel Munoz cross.

The night ended sweetly for Palace when Eddie Nketiah grabbed his first goal in red and blue in the Premier League as the ball came across the box from Tyrick Mitchell.

The win for Palace gives them slight hope again of European football, but if that it to come to fruition they need to find consistency at home.

It says a lot about a player who doesn’t record a goal nor assist in a 4-1 win when his teammate scored a brace yet he still wins the man of the match award.

Well this player was Adam Wharton. The 21-year-old made his first start in the league since October after undergoing groin surgery and it looked like he’d not missed a minute.

Everything the midfielder did was on point, from his press alongside Will Hughes to his ability to find passes no body else knew were possible. His vision is something this Palace team have missed ever since he picked up his injury.

There isn’t any other Palace player who can move the ball forward quite like Wharton, not only with the accuracy in which he does but the speed he does it in.

While he did not have a direct impact on any goal he did impact three of the four. The first being his ball into the box for Chris Richards to head towards goal for Sarr, followed by his first time pass forward into Ebere Eze for Mateta’s goal.

He then played a part in Palace’s third with a delicate touch on his chest to set up Munoz to cross to Sarr. It was a brilliant display from the England international and a taste of what’s to come for the rest of the season.

The upturn in form for Mateta since the arrival of Glasner has been remarkable. Since February 2024, which is when Glasner joined Palace, the Frenchman has scored 29 goals, level with Mohamed Salah and three behind Erling Haaland.

It is not just his goal scoring record that catches the eye however, his all round game under the Austrian manager has come on leaps and bounds.

The striker is a nightmare for any defender, standing at 6’4 and being pretty well built, when he is one on one with a defender he comes out on top more often than not.

He links play superbly with Eze and Sarr in the front three and is an outlet for the midfield two when they are under pressure. Yes, his goals are vital to Palace but his all round play is arguably just as important.

If Mateta is to have any sort of run to the end of the season like last campaign then it would not be a surprise if Palace have top clubs who are looking for a striker come knocking on their door this summer.

A happy Sarr is a good Sarr

Ismailia Sarr had been a long standing target for Crystal Palace way back in his days at Rennes before his move to Watford. Having played in the Premier League before with the Hornets Sarr never really set the world alight like he would’ve liked to.

There had been interest from Liverpool and Manchester United at times when he was on form but constancy was always his issue.

Now at Palace Sarr seems to have both his quality which he undoubtably possess as well as a level of consistency in his game. The winger has already scored more goals in the league than either of his other two seasons and has match his total in both of these when it comes to goal contributions.

Many have said before that the key to getting the best out of the Senegalese international is to make him feel loved and wanted. He is a shy character who goes about his business with little to no fuss and when he is in a good mood and happy you see the best of him.

Palace is the perfect environment for Sarr, the dressing room he has around him as well as a coach who believes in him and gets the best out of him, there is no reason why he can’t go on to fulfil his potential now in SE25.

    Nketiah in the goals

It was a long tome coming but finally Eddie Nketiah scored his first goal for Palace in the Premier League.

It had been a tough start for the former Arsenal man, coming into a team which had been broken up in the summer and added many new faces as well as having a slow start to the season.

The striker was also forced out of position in the early months of the campaign to fulfil the role left by Michael Olise. He then lost his place to Sarr who was much better suited to the role.

Since then Nektiah has had to settle with a roll on the bench for Palace with Mateta being in such good form. Only managing cameo appearances from the bench with little time remaining in games.

His goal on Tuesday reminded us all of what he is all about however, a real poachers finish in the box. It will be a huge boost of confidence for Nketiah to score and hopefully a weight lifted off his shoulders for the remainder of the season.

Dak Prescott & Co. Throw Cowboys’ Coaches Under the Bus as Mike McCarthy Beats Jerry Jones in NFLPA Survey

Questions about former Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy’s future in Dallas began doing rounds in October. That was when the Cowboys went 3-3 entering their bye week after a 47-9 home loss to the Detroit Lions. Little more than a month later, they fell to 3-7, as their franchise quarterback was ruled out for the season. Then with just three games remaining in the regular season, the Cowboys were eliminated from the postseason. Owner and GM Jerry Jones, before the season finale, declared, “Hay is in the barn,” succinctly indicating that a change was on the table.

In fact, McCarthy found himself in a similar situation to that of Jason Garrett in 2019, after the Cowboys were eliminated from the playoffs on the final day of the season. Sure, his contract ran out upon the conclusion of the season but it took the Cowboys seven days to announce his departure. For McCarthy, it was eight. However, there is a major difference between the two situations.

As the Cowboys kept Garrett waiting, he wasn’t restricted from another potential opportunity of landing a job in the NFL.

But earlier in January, when the Bears asked for permission from the Cowboys to interview McCarthy for their vacant head coaching position, the former denied it! The catch here is that by that time, McCarthy’s contract had expired. Couple that with Jerry Jones speaking highly of McCarthy and many thought it might be an indication that he would be back. But 6 days after rejecting the Bears’ request, Jones did nothing until McCarthy parted his way. But the fact is McCarthy remains a highly respected figure in the locker room. Hear this.

ESPN’s Marcus Spears, who played for nearly a decade in Dallas, said, “You would be shocked at how much respect Mike McCarthy has in this league.

And how many people think he’s a really good head coach, and how he sets the temperature of a locker room. …I know this, living in Dallas, them dudes like Mike McCarthy a lot. There’s a high level of respect for him in that locker room.” Dak Prescott expressed the same many times, as have McCarthy’s assistants. Now, looks like that respect for McCarthy has been reflected in a report that just came out. Intriguingly, the same report might also have indicated that the team’s ownership is less popular among the players than its ex-coach.

Here are the articles that inspired recent polls.

Yes, we are talking about the NFLPA Report Card! The annual behind-the-scenes peek at how teams treat their players. Dallas cracked the top 10 this year, earning high marks for its facilities, locker room, and even how it treats players’ families. But ownership? That’s where things got a little dicey.

NFLPA highlighted: “Owner Jerry Jones’s average rating for perceived willingness to invest in the facilities is 8.59 out of 10 from the Cowboys players, a ranking of 16 out of 32 owners in the league. The players feel that ownership slightly contributes to a positive team culture, a rank of 23 out of 32. The players feel that ownership is committed to building a competitive team, a rank of 25 of the 32 NFL owners.”

Players gave Jerry Jones a B (which, let’s be real, probably stings more than an F for a guy who only accepts perfection). The Cowboys ranked 23rd in team culture, 25th in ownership commitment to winning, and—get this—16th in Jones’ willingness to invest in the facilities. Imagine being worth billions and getting called out for not spending enough. But McCarthy? The players credited him for the team’s leadership and culture, and hence, why the Head Coach received a solid A. And yet, Jerry let him walk. Makes sense, right? Only in the Jerry’s World …

The letter grade came up to a C for the training staff (from a D+ last year), but the Cowboys still rank 30th when it comes to how the players view the training staff. Only the Cardinals and Browns ranked lower. Just 72% of respondents felt they got enough one-on-one training treatment, and when asked, the players said that the training staff “only slightly contributes” to their overall success. terrible, isn’t it?

    Debate

Meanwhile, the strength Coaches received a B+ (18th out of 32). 92% of Cowboys players say they get an individualized training plan from the strength coaching staff, but that ranks the team just 20th leaguewide. And the players responded that the strength coaches contribute only “moderately” to their overall success. No real change from last year, sadly, when they also earned a B+ and finished 17th. But all is not gloomy.

The Cowboys scored high marks in areas like treatment of families (A), locker room (A), and weight room (A-), but the cracks start showing when you dig deeper. Food and nutrition? Solid B+.

Team travel? B-. Meanwhile, the Cowboys’ training room landed in the bottom five, with players requesting better treatment options and more physical therapists. Considering how banged up this team always seems by December, maybe that should be priority No. 1? But nah, why fix the actual problems when you can just shuffle the coaching staff and hope for different results?

The Big D might be expecting a little too much out of Dak Prescott

The Cowboys are at a crossroads. Again.

Dallas fans didn’t exactly throw a parade when Jerry Jones promoted Brian Schottenheimer to head coach. Another familiar face. Another safe choice… And yet another year of wondering if this team can actually take the next step.

But as long as Dak Prescott is under center, the Cowboys will always have a shot. That’s not just the company line—it’s reality.

“With all the [Troy] Aikmans and the [Tony] Romos and the Daks, someone is falling into a Tier 2 quarterback or higher every time,” an NFL executive told The Athletic’s Mike Sando. “You are going to be in the mix whether you hire Jason Garrett, Mike McCarthy or really anyone.” Translation? The Cowboys’ success is tied to Prescott, not whoever is wearing the headset.

    Article continues below this ad

But let’s be real. “In the mix” doesn’t cut it. Since 1995, this franchise hasn’t sniffed a Super Bowl. Heck, they haven’t even made it to an NFC Championship Game. The post-Barry Switzer era has been a carousel of head coaches—Gailey, Campo, Parcells, Phillips, Garrett, McCarthy, and now Schottenheimer. The result? 12 playoff appearances, four postseason wins, and a fanbase running out of patience. At some point, you have to ask: is the problem really just coaching, or is it deeper than that?

The Cowboys seem to think part of the solution is adding a young quarterback behind Prescott. With a $90 million cap hit looming, Stephen Jones admitted that finding a young signal-caller is a ‘preference’ in the upcoming draft. Right now, Will Grier is the only other QB under contract. Cooper Rush and Trey Lance? Both are free agents. Dallas has to decide if it’s rolling with Prescott long term or hedging its bets.

Meanwhile, the offense is shifting. Schottenheimer and his staff are dialing up a more physical approach—winning in the trenches, pounding the rock, setting up play-action. “Coach Schottenheimer’s talked about it, and it’s going to be a physical identity,” offensive line coach Conor Riley said. “We have to win up front on both sides of the football.” The idea? Take the pressure off Prescott, open up the passing game, and stop making him carry the load alone.

    Article continues below this ad

Will it work? Maybe. Dak Prescott is still the guy. The Cowboys need him to be efficient, make smart decisions, and deliver in big moments. But this plan only works if the offensive line holds up and the run game actually becomes a legitimate threat. Otherwise, it’s just another offseason promise that won’t hold up past week 5.

Dallas is entering a pivotal year. Prescott’s contract, Schottenheimer’s new vision, and the ever-present expectation of winning it all—something has to give. Will this new approach finally break the cycle? Or will it be another season of being “in the mix” without ever finishing the job? The clock is ticking.

  • Cowboys Disappointing News on Potential Zack Martin Replacement

Cowboys Disappointing News on Potential Zack Martin Replacement

The Dallas Cowboys will need to find a replacement for right guard Zack Martin this offseason, but they may not find it in the player who could be the most coveted offensive lineman to hit free agency.

FRISCO — The Dallas Cowboys the somewhat expected yet nonetheless brutal news last week that Zack Martin intended to retire from the NFL after 11 seasons. Martin represented a significant leadership presence who set a high standard around The Star for the past decade.

His illustrious career consisted of nine Pro Bowl appearances and nine All-Pro selections. Needless to say no Cowboys player in recent history has come close to topping that level of sustained success.

That makes the process of finding his replacement all the more difficult. Martin may have been on the decline last season, but there is no real substitute for the entire package he brought.

Kansas City Chiefs guard Trey Smith (65) against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium.

One option fans and analysts had theorized would be for the team to go after Kansas City Chiefs right guard Trey Smith. However, that plan may not be a possibility for the Cowboys after a recent development.

According to Chiefs’ insider Nate Taylor, there is a “growing optimism” that Kansas City will re-sign their star guard to a long-term deal in the coming weeks. If that becomes the case, that would mean the Chiefs sacrificing the opportunity to re-sign several other key free agents as they are already strapped for cap space.

Of the significant number of free agents set to hit the market from last year’s team, Smith could demand the largest contract of the lot. The Super Bowl champion guard will be entering his prime in the next few years and may demand a contract to the likes of Carolina Panthers guard Robert Hunt.

    Osa And The money

If that is the case, the Cowboys will have to turn to alternatives in the NFL Draft or elsewhere around the league. Already young and experiencing the growing pains of some developing linemen, there is some risk in using a selection presumably in the later rounds for a Martin replacement.

Brock Hoffman held the role when Martin missed time last season and Dallas has the option to bring him back. But his contract expires in March, meaning he could decide to take his talents elsewhere.

Smith’s anticipated return to Kansas City may put a damper on some initial offseason hopes for Cowboys’ fans. Regardless, Jerry Jones and his staff will need to show some aggression on finding Martin’s replacement as they look to solidify their roster over the next few months.

Struggling to Raise 3 Children, Usain Bolt Speaks on Parenthood After Track & Field Retirement

“[It’s harder] being a father of three, of all of them, especially when they’re crying,” Usain Bolt said in an interaction with People in 2021. Given his nature, he has been straightforward when it comes to talking about anything, and the same goes for parenting. Also coming from a humble Jamaican background, he has an ample idea regarding the good and bad days in playing the role. Bolt further added, “It’s great, but everybody’s crying. It’s pandemonium in the house.” Four years later, has that ‘pandemonium’ stopped?

    Watch What’s Trending Now!

Well, Usain Bolt’s daughter, Olympia Lightning, is 4 now. His twin sons, Saint Leo and Thunder, are now three years old. So do they cry the same now as they used to four years ago? Hard to guess! Nonetheless, the Jamaican legend has many things to share about his present role as a parent. It may not be as ‘pandemonium’ as it used to be, but if you believe his words, the ride is no less of a rollercoaster.

The conversation between them had almost every relevant topic covered. And it also featured the topic of Usain Bolt’s parenthood. He remained an open book while giving his handy skill for overcoming the obstacles of fatherhood.

According to him, parenthood is all about banking on ‘patience.’ And being one of the greatest ever athletes on the earth, he has never been probably short of patience. Even 8 years after retiring from the sport, he still has the feature. But the patience parenthood needs poses different challenges. But how?

In the interaction, Bolt explained, “[You may] never have patience with certain things, but when you have kids, you have to understand, take time to develop, understand what needs to be done…..Patience will help them help to teach them and make sure everything is, so that’s what I’ve learned.” Four years after calling everything ‘pandemonium,’ this patience might have helped him to get over things. His late-found positivity in the profound role has even made him someone not to load his children with his expectations.

On this topic, the eight-time Olympic champion said, “It don’t look good, you know not press them into doing anything.” He is not even ready to make his three kids choose track and field sports as their profession. The reason? “Outside tracks, less pressure for them,” the caring father unequivocally claimed. Realizations like these might make things a splendid picture.

But for Usain, there are still things giving him issues to build that pleasant picture.

The retirement fund issue is still growing large

Usain Bolt thought about having a happy, pleasant life right after his track retirement with Kasi J. Bennett and their three children. And everything could have been well if there had been a rapid solution to the fraud he faced.

It is more than two years since Bolt has lost about $12.7 million from his retirement fund deposited in Stocks and Securities Limited (SSL). During this time, several big names came forward, assuring Bolt to provide a quick solution. But almost zero advancement has been made on the topic. Meanwhile, such a scene has frustrated the former world champion.

    Article continues below this ad

Usain has yet to get a dime from SSL. With him, there are more than 200 individuals who have gone through almost a similar fate, losing deposited money to that firm. Sadly they are yet to get anything back, just like Usain. This kind of scene inflicted a major pain on the Jamaican legend.

In his conversation with The Fix about two weeks ago, he gave his blunt message: “It’s been two years. There have been conversations, but nothing has materialized out of those talks. If they were doing enough, it would a reach a certain level already.” His questions are on the authorities’ will! Any improvement since that interview? No. But as Usain Bolt said, ‘patience.’

NASCAR Penalizes Two Teams After Surprise Atlanta Infringement

NASCAR slapped fines on two Xfinity Series teams after the Atlanta race for safety rule violations.

The Haas Factory Team No. 00 and Big Machine Racing No. 48 both got caught with improperly installed lug nuts, which led to a $5,000 fine for each team. The issue, found during post-race inspections, fell under Section 8.8.10.4a of the NASCAR Rule Book.

NASCAR stated: “Both cars were found to have at least one lug nut not properly installed, which is a safety violation noted in Section 8.8.10.4a in the NASCAR Rule Book. The teams were each fined $5,000.”

Big Machine Racing’s No. 48 is driven by Nick Sanchez, who managed to snag his first-ever top-five finish in the Xfinity Series in Atlanta, overcoming some early damage to his car.

Meanwhile, Sheldon Creed, driving the Haas Factory Team No. 00 Ford, ended the race in the 14th position. The Haas Factory Team was formed after Stewart-Haas Racing, co-owned by Gene Haas and former NASCAR driver Tony Stewart, decided to close down at the end of 2024.

Despite the penalty, Creed is currently in second position in the Xfinity championship standings. Whereas, Sanchez is in fifteenth.

This comes ahead of this weekend’s race at the iconic Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. The NASCAR Xfinity Series Focused Health 250 is set to take place on Saturday 1st March at 2.30 p.m. ET. Fans who want to follow the action live can watch on CW, PRN, and SiriusXM.
