Arsenal are suffering from several injury problems, but they could be set for a huge boost soon.
Mikel Arteta will be without several key players for Arsenal’s upcoming clash with Liverpool, with William Saliba suspended and a number of others facing injury problems.
7 Footballers Who Had The SHORTEST Primes
Riccardo Calafiori, Jurrien Timber and Bukayo Saka are all doubts for the Liverpool game, and there are other longer-term absentees in Takehiro Tomiyasu and Martin Odegaard.
Odegaard has been a huge miss, with Arsenal struggling for creativity in his absence, but the captain is now edging closer to a return.
Martin Odegaard gives update over his injury
In his matchday programme notes ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming game against Liverpool, Odegaard opened up on his injury recovery, and revealed that he is set to return soon.
“I’ve been out for a few weeks now, and have been working hard to get back as soon as possible,” he stated.
“As I said in my notes on Tuesday [before Shakhtar Donetsk], I feel like it’s close now, but although I haven’t been involved in the games lately, I feel I’ve still been able to use that time pretty well too.
“To be honest my days haven’t been much different to before. I am still at the training ground every day, and they are long days as well.”
Odegaard has been working hard on his recovery, and it has not been an easy process.
“I’m usually pretty tired afterwards because I’ve been doing a lot of work with the great medical and fitness team we have, and I’ve spent a lot of time in the gym as well. I’ve wanted to stay involved with what’s happening too, so I’ve been going to the preparation meetings and have been closely involved.
“But obviously matchdays have been different, there’s been less traveling so I’ve been able to spend more time at home, getting important rest periods, which has been good.”
Arsenal have missed Martin Odegaard
Odegaard has been a huge miss for Arsenal. Ethan Nwaneri has not yet been trusted to start in his place, and there has been a void of creativity with Saka also injured.
Arsenal have also missed Odegaard’s leadership and composure in the middle of the park, with no natural replacement.
There are tough fixtures ahead against Chelsea, Newcastle and Inter Milan, and if Odegaard can make his return in any of these games, it will be a welcome boost for Arsenal.
