Kalvin Phillips sends two-word Ipswich message after extended absence

Kalvin Phillips has sent Ipswich Town fans a message after their FA Cup fixture against Bristol Rovers on Sunday (12 January) as he claimed it was “some day.”

The Tractor Boys progressed to the fourth round with a comfortable 3-0 win after goals from Phillips, Jack Clarke, and Jack Taylor.

Kieran McKenna’s side will face Coventry City in the fourth round as they aim to continue progressing in the competition.

The win over Bristol Rovers was a particularly important one for the on-loan Man City midfielder who has been going through a difficult period in his career and endured an extended absence from the starting XI.

His goal in the FA Cup marked the first time the 29-year-old has scored since joining Ipswich in the summer, and he was quick to react to it on Instagram.

Phillips said, “First goal for the town & a @emiratesfacup win, some day! See you in the next round.”

Kalvin Phillips is still searching for his old form

Phillips is still searching for the form he had at Leeds United when he was earning plaudits from pundits and fans alike on a regular basis.

His performances during that time led to him becoming a regular for England while Man City signed him, but since then he’s struggled for consistent form.

The midfielder has only featured 11 times in the Premier League this season for Ipswich and has started just once since November.

Phillips could be getting some more competition for places in midfield during the January transfer window as the club are looking to bring in reinforcements.
