New Ipswich Town signing Julio Enciso says he wants to help the Blues ‘play great football’ and stay in the Premier League.

The young Paraguayan forward, 21, became Town’s third signing of the window last week when he arrived from Premier League rivals Brighton on loan for the rest of the campaign.

Reports suggested that the exciting youngster picked Town over a host of clubs, including slumbering giants Manchester United.

While that has not been confirmed, Enciso did reveal that conversations with boss Kieran McKenna were key to the move.

“Very good,” he said of those chats, speaking to TownTV in his native Spanish.

“He influenced me a lot and that’s why I am here. He was great with me, so was everyone at the club.

“I am very grateful to him and the club for believing in me. I can’t wait to get going.

“I am excited! I have a new opportunity to prove myself. I want to thank the club and the manager for having confidence in me. I’m very excited.”

Another influence in his decision was fellow Brighton talent Jeremy Sarmiento, who signed for Town in the same window last year and quickly became a fan favourite.

“Yes, I spoke to him about Ipswich,” Enciso confirmed. “He told me great things about the town and the club. He said he had very good team-mates.

“I really can’t wait to get started.”

Enciso duly got started at Anfield on Saturday, first clattering into Wataru Endo after coming on as sub, before delivering the corner from which Jacob Greaves snatched a late consolation goal in the 4-1 defeat.

Asked what fans can expect of him as a player, he enthused: “I like to carry the ball, I like dribbling.

“I love scoring and assisting. I’m a real fighter and I do my best in every game.”

He added: “It’s clear what I want to achieve – stay in the Premier League and win games, and play the great football the manager and fans want to see.

“Hopefully I can help and learn from all my team-mates.”

Asked for a message to Town fans, he replied: “Keep on supporting. Of course I am happy to be here. I will give my best on the pitch.”
