Ipswich Town have confirmed the signing of Jaden Philogene from Aston Villa.

Philogene had a medical on Thursday after the two clubs agreed on a £20million ($24.7m) fee for the winger with a further £3m in add-ons.

The 22-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with Ipswich and is their second January arrival after centre-back Ben Godfrey joined the club on loan from Serie A side Atalanta.

“I’m excited to be here and I know there are great players in the squad,” Jaden told Ipswich’s website. “I just want to play as much as possible. As a player, I like to dribble and link up play and provide goals and assists. I’m looking forward to it.”

Philogene is a Villa academy graduate and made his debut for the team in 2021. He spent the second half of the 2021-22 season on loan at Stoke City in the Championship before being loaned to Cardiff City for the following campaign.

Philogene joined Hull City on a permanent transfer in 2023 and enjoyed a successful spell in the second tier, scoring 12 goals in 32 games as Hull narrowly missed out on the play-offs with a seventh-place finish.

Ipswich were initially unsuccessful in their attempts to sign Philogene in the summer, despite agreeing an £18m ($22.1m) fee with Hull and coming to terms with the Englishman on a five-year contract. However, Villa activated a matching rights clause that was part of the deal that took him to Hull to bring him back to the club.

Philogene made 15 appearances across all competitions for Villa this season but his minutes were limited and he only made four starts. Villa, meanwhile, have already moved to strengthen their attack this window with the signing of Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund.
