Former Super Bowl Champion Compares Buffalo Bills To 2017 Title-Winning Philadelphia Eagles

After making it to the playoffs last season, the Buffalo Bills are hoping to surpass the success they achieved in the previous campaign. Among those who see the the potential to far is wide receiver Mack Hollins.

The 2023 season was a challenging yet ultimately successful campaign for the Buffalo Bills. Despite a mid-season slump that resulted in the firing of their offensive coordinator, the team rallied to finish the regular season with a 12-4 record, clinching their fifth consecutive playoff appearance and fourth straight AFC East division title.

The Bills’ late-season surge was a testament to the resilience and adaptability of the team under the leadership of head coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane. After a rocky stretch that saw them drop to 6-6, the Bills reeled off five consecutive victories to secure their place in the postseason.

In the Wild Card round, the Bills continued their strong play, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-17 to advance to the Divisional Round. However, their season ultimately came to an end against the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, who defeated the Bills 27-24 in a closely contested game.

While the Bills fell short of their ultimate goal of reaching the Super Bowl, the 2023 season was a testament to the team’s resilience and the ongoing success of the McDermott-Beane partnership. With a talented roster and a proven coaching staff, the Bills remain poised to contend for championships in the years to come, as they continue to build upon the foundation laid in this challenging yet ultimately rewarding campaign.

The Lions’ impressive run last season has placed more attention to the team. In an episode of Green Light with Chris Long, production of Yote House Media, Hollins dropped a surprising comparison of the team to the 2017 Philadelphia Eagles.

Chris: “What’s the vibe like? It’s a good mix of young guys and veterans with good energy. Does it remind you at all of ‘17 with some of the makeup?”

Mack: “Yeah, in a lot of ways it does. Really, even from the way we practice and what the standard is. You’ve been on teams just as I have where sometimes the practice standard is just like, it’s not that great and you can kind of know early. Like we can tell ourselves we’re going to be good, but we don’t practice hard enough. Here [Buffalo], first practice, OTAs. I’m like, oh, these guys go weight room [everyday]. Does everybody want to lift every day? No, but we’re going to get to work because we’re there and we enjoy being around each other.”

Hollins was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He has had a successful professional career, winning the Super Bowl with them in 2018 and playing for several other NFL teams, including the Miami Dolphins, Las Vegas Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, and now the Bills.
