Bad news for Morsy: Ipswich fighting to sign a star who’s “made of iron”

Ipswich Town were given another reminder of the gigantic task they are facing in the second half of the season when Manchester City visited Portman Road on Sunday.

The Tractor Boys are in the relegation zone, but are within touching distance of Wolverhampton Wanderers, and their efforts to climb to safety were not boosted by their clash with Pep Guardiola’s side.

Kieran McKenna‘s men were swept aside with relative ease as the champions secured a 6-0 win, with the scoreline safe enough for them to take Kevin de Bruyne, Phil Foden, and Erling Haaland off the pitch with 30 minutes to go.

The January transfer window is open for business, though, and this means that they have the chance to add more quality to the squad, in an attempt to avoid relegation straight back down to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Ipswich have already brought in two new signings with Premier League experience. Ben Godfrey arrived on loan from Atalanta and Jaden Philogdene has been signed from Aston Villa on a permanent deal.

The Tractor Boys are now, however, reportedly interested in a deal to sign a player who was playing football in the Championship in the 2023/24 campaign.

Ipswich’s interest in Ligue 1 dynamo

According to French outlet L’Equipe, Ipswich are one of a number of clubs eyeing up a swoop to sign Rennes central midfielder Glen Kamara this month.

The report claims that a return to England is on the cards for the former Arsenal academy graduate, who only signed for the Ligue 1 club from Leeds United last summer.

It states that several teams are fighting it out to secure his services for the second half of the season, including Ipswich, Middlesbrough, Southampton, and Turkish outfit Trabzonspor.

    Glen-Kamara-Leeds-exit

The outlet adds that Trabzonspor are currently the most active team in the race, as they look to snap him up ahead of the interested parties from England.

This shows that Ipswich will face plenty of competition to strike a deal for the Finland international before the end of the January transfer window, which means that they may have to act quickly if they want to bring him to Portman Road.

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

L’Equipe does not, however, reveal whether or not Rennes are willing to send the £30k-per-week gem out on loan or if they would prefer to sell him on a permanent basis, whilst there is also no mention of any potential transfer fee for the ex-Rangers star.

Whether it is on loan or a permanent move, Ipswich’s interest in Kamara in the January transfer window will come as bad news to club captain Sam Morsy, who plays in his position.

Ipswich’s rapid rise from League One to the Premier League, with back-to-back promotions, has led to several players, essentially, making the jump from the third tier to the top-flight within 18 months or so.

This has meant that several stars from the promotion-winning side in League One, and in the Championship, have not been able to successfully make the step up to the Premier League.

    Sam-Morsy

Morsy has not been a complete disaster in the top-flight because he has, at least, been a consistent starter for McKenna – starting 19 of his 20 appearances – rather than being moved on or left on the bench week-in-week-out.

The Egypt international has made 3.2 tackles and interceptions per game, attempting to provide a combative presence in the middle of the park, but has also committed almost as many fouls (1.9) as tackles made (2.2) per match on average.

The 33-year-old veteran, who has been dribbled past regularly in midfield, should, therefore, be concerned about a new arrival in his position, as it could have an impact on his game time.

Why Ipswich should sign Glen Kamara

Ipswich should push to win the race for Kamara before the window officially slams shut at the end of next month because he could come in as an upgrade on Morsy in the middle of the park.

The Finland international may be more suited to what the Tractor Boys need in midfield as they attempt to avoid relegation from the Premier League, due to his strength in duels and his security in possession.

    glen-kamara-leeds-transfer-farke-championship

Neil McCann, his former boss at Dundee, once described the midfielder as being “made of iron” and his physical statistics for Leeds and Rennes help to back that up, as he has won 58% of his ground duels in Ligue 1 this season and won 58% of his battles in the Championship last term.

The 29-year-old ace has only started eight times in the French top-flight, completing 91% of his attempted passes with no errors that led to shots for the opposition, but caught the eye as a regular in England in the 2023/24 campaign.

As you can see in the table above, Kamara’s form for Rennes and Leeds shows that he is incredibly secure in possession and rarely gives the ball away, whilst Morsy has made four errors that have directly led to shots this season.

This suggests that the Finnish maestro could offer more quality in possession in comparison to the Ipswich skipper, by using his technical ability to retain the ball for the Blues.

Opposition players also find it harder to get the better of Kamara in midfield, as shown by him winning 58% of his duels and only being dribbled past 15 times last season, which suggests that he could also be an upgrade on Morsy off the ball.

Overall, the former Leeds man has the quality, in and out of possession, to come in and take over Morsy’s role as a regular starter in the middle of the park, which is why the club’s interest in him is bad news for the Ipswich captain, who could find himself on the bench in the second half of the season.

  • Ipswich is determined to secure the signing of a key player described as being “made of iron,” a tough blow for Morsy.

Ipswich is determined to secure the signing of a key player described as being “made of iron,” a tough blow for Morsy.

Ipswich Town were reminded once again of the monumental challenge ahead of them in the second half of the season when Manchester City visited Portman Road on Sunday.

The Tractor Boys find themselves in the relegation zone, though they are within reach of Wolverhampton Wanderers, and their hopes of escaping danger were not helped by their encounter with Pep Guardiola’s team.

Kieran McKenna’s side were easily overpowered as the champions secured a 6-0 victory, with the scoreline comfortable enough for them to take off Kevin de Bruyne, Phil Foden, and Erling Haaland after just 60 minutes.

With the January transfer window now open, Ipswich have the opportunity to strengthen their squad in a bid to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

The Tractor Boys have already signed two players with Premier League experience. Ben Godfrey joined on loan from Atalanta, while Jaden Philogdene was brought in from Aston Villa on a permanent basis.

Ipswich are now reportedly targeting a player who was plying his trade in the Championship during the 2023/24 season.

Ipswich’s interest in Ligue 1 midfielder According to French outlet L’Equipe, Ipswich are among the clubs looking to sign Rennes midfielder Glen Kamara this month.

The report suggests a return to England is on the horizon for the former Arsenal academy player, who moved to Rennes from Leeds United last summer.

Several clubs are reportedly vying for his signature, including Ipswich, Middlesbrough, Southampton, and Turkish side Trabzonspor.

The outlet also mentions that Trabzonspor are currently the most active team in the race, intensifying competition for Ipswich to secure the Finnish international before the January transfer window closes.

L’Equipe does not clarify whether Rennes are open to sending Kamara out on loan or prefer a permanent transfer, and no potential transfer fee for the ex-Rangers player is disclosed.

Whether it’s a loan or permanent move, Ipswich’s pursuit of Kamara could be concerning for club captain Sam Morsy, who plays in the same position.

Sam Morsy’s performance this season Ipswich’s rapid rise from League One to the Premier League, with back-to-back promotions, has seen many players make the leap from the third tier to the top flight in just over 18 months.

This rapid progression has meant that some stars from the promotion-winning campaigns have struggled to adapt to the Premier League.

Sam-Morsy Morsy has not been disastrous, as he has consistently started for McKenna, appearing in 19 of his 20 games, but he has also been vulnerable to mistakes and physical challenges.

The Egypt international has averaged 3.2 tackles and interceptions per game, aiming to be a combative presence in midfield, though he has also committed almost as many fouls (1.9) as tackles (2.2) per match.

  • Ipswich could land a dream signing for Delap with a move for a “Ronaldo-like” player.

Ipswich could land a dream signing for Delap with a move for a “Ronaldo-like” player.

Ipswich Town experienced a harsh introduction to the Premier League, despite being in their 22nd match of the season, when they faced reigning champions Manchester City at Portman Road.

Pep Guardiola’s team dominated the game in Suffolk, handing Kieran McKenna’s side a heavy 6-0 defeat, even removing key players like Kevin de Bruyne, Erling Haaland, and Phil Foden with around 30 minutes to go.

This marked the first time Ipswich had conceded five or more goals at Portman Road since a 2021 defeat to Bolton and the first time they had conceded six at home since a loss to Leicester in 2011.

Ipswich remain in the Premier League relegation zone, just behind Wolverhampton Wanderers on goal difference, but they still have a real chance of staying up.

To boost their survival hopes, strengthening the squad with more quality players could help them leapfrog Wolves and avoid relegation. January signings Jaden Philogene and Ben Godfrey have been the first steps toward improving the squad.

McKenna will likely be looking to add more attacking options, as the team needs to improve their ability to create chances for top scorer Liam Delap.

Liam Delap’s season so far The England U21 forward, signed from Manchester City in the summer, has been Ipswich’s most reliable goal-scorer in the Premier League this season.

Delap has netted 8 of the club’s 20 goals, accounting for 40% of their total, highlighting his importance in their fight to avoid relegation.

Without his contributions, Ipswich could be further adrift from the teams above them, and they must find ways to get him more involved in matches as the season progresses.

As the table shows, Delap has been clinical, exceeding his xG of 6.36 by 1.64 goals, though his teammates haven’t created many opportunities for him, as evidenced by the low xG over 21 games.

The 21-year-old has often had to create chances himself through his pace and dribbling, as shown in the clip below.

For Ipswich to move out of the bottom three, they need to improve their team play and create more opportunities for Delap to thrive in the second half of the season.

With the January transfer window still open, McKenna could make a crucial move to sign one of their reported targets, Julio Enciso.

Ipswich’s interest in Julio Enciso Earlier this month, TWTD reported Ipswich’s interest in Brighton & Hove Albion winger Julio Enciso, as the club seeks to strengthen the squad before the window closes.

FFC Header Transfer Focus Transfer Focus Big money moves, controversial transfers, and high-profile flops. This is where transfer news and opinions live.

The report mentioned that both Ipswich and Leicester City were considering a loan deal for the forward, with Ipswich having tracked Enciso for several transfer windows.

However, the Foxes would need to cancel Facundo Buonanotte’s loan or secure Enciso on a permanent transfer, as Premier League rules prevent a club from having two loan players from the same top-flight team.

Ipswich are still yet to make an official enquiry, according to TWTD, so a deal doesn’t seem imminent at this point.

McKenna should push for a deal to bring in the versatile attacker, as he could provide a significant boost for Delap in the second half of the 2024/25 season.

Why Julio Enciso could be ideal for Liam Delap Given Ipswich’s battle against relegation, signing proven Premier League talent may not be feasible. Therefore, they must take calculated risks, like they did with Philogene and Godfrey.

Enciso would represent such a gamble, considering his limited game time at Brighton, but his performances when given the chance show that he could become a creative force for Ipswich.

Since the start of the 2022/23 season, the £19m-rated player has made just 14 Premier League starts and come off the bench 30 times.

The 20-year-old has even been described as “Ronaldo-esque” for his potential.

  • Three things we discovered: Manchester City 0–6 Ipswich Town

Three things we discovered: Manchester City 0–6 Ipswich Town

symbol 02:00 02:00 The 24 year old grabbed two first half goals, with an assist for Mateo Kovacic in between, to give City a comfortable edge at the midway mark of the match against the Tractor Boys.

Jeremy Doku, Erling Haaland and James McAtee completed the rout in the second half to give City a well deserved three points and subject Ipswich to a humiliating loss. Here are three things we learned when City ran riot against Ipswich:

Even by today’s standards, they got off to a bad start. More dropped points from City were likely, and Ipswich was, in my judgment, the superior team. But after a fantastic build-up down the left side, Foden’s goal—finished off like the Foden from the previous season—set City on their way, and they didn’t turn back. Ederson was really effective at the back, pinging the ball around and making a few solid saves.

Although Josko Gvardiol and Matheus Nunes are technically playing out of position at full back, they both appeared at ease and adapted. It was wonderful to see Ruben Dias again, and it’s no accident that Manuel Akanji was there.

Erling Haaland has found his shooting boots again, Phil Foden and Kevin de Bruyne are returning to their best up front, and Jeremy Doku is making a strong case to start games on the left side despite competition from Jack Grealish, Savinho, soon-to-be Oscar Bobb, and Omar Marmoush.

They have demonstrated that City can still compete at the highest level when they are confident and have more players in good form.

Even though it was just Ipswich, the performance was unquestionably better than anything we’ve seen this season and is very reassuring to see ahead of the upcoming challenging stretch. With three players coming in—Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, and Douglas Luiz, an alternative midfielder, and possibly two more—City is well-positioned to secure a top four finish and rebuild in the summer in order to compete for the league title the following year.

City can only realistically operate with four players in attack, and choosing that quartet will be a difficult job for Pep Guardiola.

Haaland is nailed on, as are De Bruyne and Foden when they’re fully fit. But that leaves one more space to be battled out by as many as six players. If Doku carries on the way he has in City’s last two games against Ipswich and Salford City, he’ll keep his place, but Savinho is also in a rich vein of form too.

  • Real frustration” – Middlesbrough FC backed to beat Ipswich Town to signing of ex-EFL star

Real frustration” – Middlesbrough FC backed to beat Ipswich Town to signing of ex-EFL star

Middlesbrough are said to be one of a number of English clubs weighing up a move for former Leeds United midfielder Glen Kamara this winter.

That’s according to a recent report from French outlet L’Equipe, who claim that the Teessiders are set to face competition from Premier League duo Southampton and Ipswich Town for the player, who currently plies his trade with Rennes in Ligue 1.

The Finland international only departed Elland Road over the summer, but reports claim that the 29-year-old has failed to live up to the billing since moving across the Channel for a fee said to be €10 million, with a potential loan move for the remainder of the season being mooted.

With that in mind, we spoke to Football League World’s resident Boro fan Jasper Hudson about his thoughts on the potential addition during the current transfer window, and Michael Carrick looks to add to a team struggling in the middle of the park of late.

After going down 2-1 to Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Saturday, Carrick and his side have now just won two of their last ten games in all competitions, with a weakness in the engine room costing them dearly since their poor run started at the start of December.

With the likes of Aidan Morris and Jonny Howson unavailable through injury, and Dan Barlaser and Hayden Hackney struggling for form, Boro have been on the ropes for much of the busy Festive period, with their deficiencies in key areas costing them dear in their challenge for a play-off spot.

As yet, the north-east side are yet to bring in any new faces to the Riverside this winter, but in Kamara they could have a player who could offer a reassuring presence in his midfield role, and Hudson believes that could be invaluable given the current state of the squad.

When asked about the proposition of bringing the Rennes midfield in, the Boro fan said: “As of right now I don’t see why we wouldn’t bring him in if it was an option.

“At the start of the season our midfield was such a strong point, however recently, mainly because of injuries but also players not playing well enough, I would look at bringing him in.

“I think [Hayden] Hackney has not been good enough recently, [Dan] Barlaser is really struggling at the moment, so the midfield is an area of real frustration at the minute.

“There is a lack of quality in there which is probably why the results aren’t going as well, because it is a team and a system that relies heavily on a good midfield and good midfield play, so if it is an option of a loan I don’t see why we wouldn’t bring him in.”

Although they are in seventh-spot at time of writing and outside the play-off positions on goal difference only, the wheels have started to fall off for Boro of late, and Carrick needs some extra personnel to help his side continue in their challenge to finish in the top six this season.

After a bright start to the season in which they kept pace with the leading pack in the division, their recent slump has the Teessiders fall out of contention and lose ground on their rivals, with a number of sides in the mix for a chance to be in the end-of-season lottery that is the play-offs.

    michael carrick

With injuries playing their part, and extra pressure put on players who have been lacking that consistency of late, Hudson is adamant his side need extra players in the middle of the park for the remainder of the season to keep standards high week to week.

He continued: “It definitely feels like the squad needs some boosting, obviously [Aidan] Morris has just returned from injury, and [Jonny] Howson is out injured, so it would be good to strengthen that midfield, give something different, and hopefully improve the quality.

“We need to get Hackney especially, but Barlaser and Morris as well, all back to the level by having someone who has not been out injured and who will hopefully create competition for places. That should help to improve our midfield performances.”

A hearing for two men accused of being involved in a large cannabis farm in a derelict building in Ipswich town centre has been adjourned to obtain an interpreter for them.

Before Ipswich Crown Court on Monday via a prison video link were Kledis Zefi, 23, and Llazar Lepuri, 21, both of no fixed address.

Zefi has admitted producing cannabis and Lepuri has yet to enter a plea to the charge.

The hearing was adjourned until February 17 to allow an interpreter to attend. Both defendants are in custody.

Officers executed a pre-planned warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at a derelict business premises in Carr Street in December.

It was discovered that cannabis was being grown across four floors inside the building and the defendants were arrested on suspicion of cannabis cultivation and were taken to Martlesham police station for questioning.

After the discovery, Ipswich council executive member John Cook urged residents to contact the police if they have concerns about similar activities in the town.

He said: “In addition to illegal drugs getting on to our streets, there are other dangers: fire risk from dangerous wiring and excessive energy use, criminal exploitation of vulnerable people and potential for criminal violence between rival cartels.”

£10million Blades move done as Leicester fanbase should learn from Ipswich how to take the job as the 12th man in correct manner

Tom Cannon is a done deal as the forward will join Sheffield United for an expected fee of £10million. Leicester are just one win away from getting out of the relegation zone, despite the fact they have lost their last 7 league games.

Certain parts of the fanbase are fuming, others goes silent. Some still of course decide to carry on and have an open eye, but the mob at the stadium and different forums and chats, should save their words and hate towards everything regarding Leicester.

If you are part of the mob, the so called shit chatters, you should stay away. What you are doing at the moment is just harmful and nothing good. Please stay away, be at home, bake a cake or walk the dog, if you do not have one, walk yourself. Please stay away from King Power Stadium, if you cannot show any type of support.

Ipswich fans had to see their team being slaughtered 6-0 this weekend, but instead of shouting and swearing, talking down players and being part of the negatives, they are showing up as the 12th man. Certain Leicester fans goes totally toxic whenever chips are down. The worst believe they are the voice to listen to, as they are certainly not. Sadly this club is just a fraction of a lot of different supporter groups, most of them shouting and swearing, possibly getting abuse from friends supporting other club when Leicester are losing, taking it all too personal. No one demand or force you to be a Leicester fan.

You have so many different fractions, fan channels and opinions, that all speaks for themselves, but instead of reporting on what is going on, they take this personally, almost as someone has attacked them.

Of course watching your team lose 7 games in a row would make you sad, but please stay in the real world and wake up. Leicester are playing at the highest level possible in the world of club football. To be part of that is not a given previlege, and players at this level are not bad footballers, but when compared to some of the players they are playing against, you have, as a newly promoted team, a massive challenge on your hand.

You are of course entitled to express your negatives, and of course be disappointed when you are not getting the results you would like. But still you could at least lower your tone and be more understanding, as the team of course miss Mads Hermansen and Wilfred Ndidi, possibly a reason for most of the problems at present time, and even with them two in the team, not likely winners of every game. That is a factor in play and of course Leicester as a club will always suffer with their best players not available. Ricardo Pereira and Abdul Fatawu are also sidelined, making a certain difference. To then demand the owners to fix this at once and bring new players in, believing it is like changing a light ball, when it’s no longer working, makes just silly words not worth listening to.

The abuse we have seen towards the owner and certain groups of the management is just silly talk, as these people are the same that took the club straight back to the top. There are still games to play and I hope the mob will have to eat their words again, as so many times before. FA Cup success, playing in Europe, being a club in Premier League, is at the moment valued to nothing, but hopefully this mob will go totally silent, so silent that they are just concentrating on eating their yellows for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Nothing is ruined, the club is functioning as it should, so If you decide to be a Leicester supporter, something you and only you decide to be, you must support not doing the total opposite. Believe in the owner and the management, when you have rain and thunder as well as sun and great weather. Please understand that a management team and the owner cannot make a statement every time the team lose a football game. The mob is acting as what they are, a mob.

Chelsea did the job today winning 3-1, Wolves are just two points above Leicester. If you believe Leicester are going down, like to abuse players and management, stay away, go silent and be at home, you are not needed at this time.

  • Ipswich could make dream signing for Delap in move for “Ronaldo-esque” star

Ipswich could make dream signing for Delap in move for “Ronaldo-esque” star

Ipswich Town had a real welcome to the Premier League moment, despite it being their 22nd match of the season, when they hosted the champions Manchester City at Portman Road.

Pep Guardiola’s side ran riot in Suffolk and crushed Kieran McKenna‘s men with a 6-0 victory, even taking off Kevin de Bruyne, Erling Haaland, and Phil Foden for the final 30 minutes or so.

It was the first time Ipswich have conceded five or more goals in a league game at Portman Road since 2021 against Bolton and the first time they have conceded six at home since a defeat to Leicester in 2011.

The Tractor Boys remain in the bottom three in the Premier League, on goal difference behind Wolverhampton Wanderers, but still have a realistic chance of avoiding the drop.

Bringing in more quality to bolster the squad could give them a better chance of climbing above Wolves to avoid going straight back down to the Championship. Jaden Philogene and Ben Godfrey have arrived as the first two additions of the January transfer window.

McKenna should be in the market to add more options to his attacking arsenal because the team needs to do more to create chances for Liam Delap at the top end of the pitch.

    Liam Delap’s form this season

The England U21 international was brought in from Manchester City in the summer and has been the go-to man for goals for Ipswich in the Premier League so far this season.

    Liam-Delap-Ipswich

He has scored a staggering 40% of the club’s goals in the division with eight of the 20 goals scored by the team, which speaks to how important the forward has been to their efforts to climb out of the bottom three.

Ipswich may have been further adrift of Wolves and the rest of the teams in the league without his quality in the final third, and they must find a way to get him even more involved in matches in the second half of the season.

As you can see in the table above, Delap has been incredibly clinical in front of goal, overperforming his xG by 1.64, but his teammates have not created a huge number of chances for him, with just 6.36 xG in 21 games.

The 21-year-old marksman has often had to fashion opportunities for himself with his powerful running and impressive dribbling, as you can see in the clip below.

Ipswich need to create more as a team to ensure that they are providing the forward with the ammunition he needs to be able to win games for the Tractor Boys to push them out of the bottom three in the weeks to come.

The January transfer window is still open for business and McKenna could make a dream signing for Delap by swooping for one of the club’s reported transfer targets, Julio Enciso.

    Ipswich’s interest in Julio Enciso

Earlier this month, TWTD reported that Ipswich hold an interest in the Brighton & Hove Albion winger, as the board looks to bolster the squad before the end of the window.

They reported on a claim from Nacion Media that the Tractor Boys and Leicester City are both eyeing up the forward for a loan move, and confirmed that he is a player of interest to the Suffolk-based side.

The Foxes, however, would need to cancel Facundo Buonanotte’s loan or sign the attacker on a permanent deal, as the Premier League rules do not allow a club to have two players on loan from the same top-flight team.

Liverpool's Wataru Endo chases Julio Enciso

TWTD added that Enciso is a player the Tractor Boys have been tracking for some time and that they have had their eye on the Paraguay international for several transfer windows.

However, the report revealed that Ipswich are yet to make a formal enquiry over a deal to secure his services, which does not suggest that a transfer is close at this moment in time.

McKenna, however, should push for the club to get a deal over the line for the versatile attacker because he could come in as a dream signing for Delap in the second half of the 2024/25 campaign.

Why Julio Enciso could be a dream for Liam Delap

Ipswich are not going to be able to sign proven, in-form, Premier League quality players whilst fighting relegation this season, which means that they have to take gambles – like Philogene and Godfrey.

Enciso would certainly be a gamble, given his lack of game time at Brighton, but his form, in limited minutes, for the Seagulls over the years suggests that the potential is there for him to be a creative force for the Tractor Boys.

Since the start of the 2022/23 campaign, the £19m-rated star has only started 14 matches in the Premier League, coming on as a substitute in a further 30 games.

The 20-year-old starlet, who was described as “Ronaldo-esque” for the strike above by Jamie Redknapp, has shown potential in the Premier League, with four goals and seven ‘big chances’ created despite only starting 14 times.

‘Ronaldo-esque’ is a good way to describe his style, albeit not quality at this moment in time, as he is a dynamic, right-footed, forward who can play on the left, as an attacking midfielder, or as a centre-forward, similar to Cristiano Ronaldo in his early days at Manchester United.

His most starts in a season for Brighton came in the 2022/23 campaign, starting seven of his 20 outings in the Premier League, and he showcased his quality at the top end of the pitch.

  • Ipswich 0–6 Manchester City: After scoring six goals at Portman Road, Pep Guardiola’s team moved up to fourth place in the Premier League.

Ipswich 0–6 Manchester City: After scoring six goals at Portman Road, Pep Guardiola’s team moved up to fourth place in the Premier League.

Manchester City’s resounding 6-0 victory at Portman Road propelled them into the top four, dealing Ipswich six devastating blows. Fortunately for Pep Guardiola, Phil Foden was available to offer the foundation to guarantee that City was fourth by halftime.

City started the game in ninth place and needed a three-goal margin to move up into the top four. Just before the half-hour mark, Foden opened the score with a close-range shot.

Foden was in and around the area once more just three minutes later (30), which allowed Mateo Kovacic to score City’s second goal.

In a classic, avaricious manner, a third goal just before halftime virtually guaranteed all three points. There, the city was not finished.

When Jeremy Doku broke through the Tractor Boys’ defense to add a fourth goal after the interval, Ipswich fell even more apart.

After missing an early opportunity to open the score, Erling Haaland, who scored a hat-trick in the rematch in September, was on the sidelines of the goalmouth action.

However, that didn’t last long because a few days after confirming his long-term future at City, he joined the action and punished a Jack Clarke error to guide home a fifth goal.

As it appeared like City would start to rest players for their Champions League trip to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, James McAtee was brought in. Kevin de Bruyne was replaced by McAtee, who took advantage of the situation to score a goal of his own. For the final ten minutes of the game, Kieran McKenna’s team was chasing shadows, so the final whistle couldn’t have come any sooner. Ipswich’s loss leaves them in the bottom three.

Most likely the best all-around performance of the season. One of our greatest shows so far this year. Maintaining player fitness is crucial as we gain momentum. I attribute it to the team’s improved camaraderie and people’s improved physical condition. “We don’t hurry when we score. We are maintaining possession, and today’s build-up play was crucial. “It taught me everything [bad spelling of form].”

It’s nice to see me playing football again, smiling, and scoring goals.

I want to add to that and continue. You can’t predict what might occur. Remaining in the top four is the goal.

We are thrilled to be returning to the activities that have characterized this team over the past ten years.

I’m really happy with the three points, but it will be extremely difficult to qualify for the Champions League the next season. We were far superior. With our level of consistency, we may not be at our best, but we are closer. The majority of them didn’t occur in the games we’ve won before.

“You can’t play in the short spaces the way we played without the ball. Everyone who had the ball was shrewd and incredibly swift. Everybody is connected.

If you are not connected defensively, you cannot be quick, wise, and good. Here, Ipswich defeated Chelsea, and Liam [Delap] is an outstanding scorer.

SportEPL: Guardiola responds to Man City’s 6-0 thumping of Ipswich Town as the team returns

After Manchester City’s 6-0 Premier League victory over Ipswich Town on Sunday, manager Pep Guardiola declared his squad was back to their former glory.

The champions’ victory puts them in the top four on the table. Erling Haaland also got on the scoresheet, and Phil Foden scored his second brace of the week and assisted on another goal

With a much-needed victory, City climbed up to fourth place with 38 points.

We are thrilled to be returning to the activities that have characterized this team over the past ten years. After the game, Guardiola told Sky Sports, “I’m really happy with the three points and to get into the Champions League for next season.”

Guardiola was pleased with his team’s performance at Portman Road following a few lackluster displays over the holiday season.

“Much better, perhaps not our greatest, but closer given our level of game consistency. “Everyone is related, and everyone with the ball was shrewd and faster.

“If you are not connected defensively, you cannot be quick, wise, and good,” Guardiola stated.
