Aston Villa offer €15m plus €2m for bargain signing – Request of Villa player loan

Over the past few days, various claims have reported about Aston Villa’s concrete interest in Sevilla’s Loïc Badé and these surfaced after Monchi’s trip to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán at the weekend.

On Tuesday, ABC Sevilla stated Monchi has started talks with the La Liga side and needs to offload Diego Carlos first before making an approach for the 24-year-old.

Later that day, Sevilla sporting director Víctor Orta stated they haven’t received an offer yet for the Aston Villa target.

0Vamos Mi Sevilla FC also report Monchi has begun negotiations for the Frenchman and then provide more on this case.

Unai Emery’s side have tabled a first offer of €15m plus €5m bonuses, taking advantage of the Spanish club’s financial situation. The report says Sevilla have requested €22m plus €5m bonuses, and Carlos on loan with Aston Villa covering half of his salary.

Carlos’ exit from Villa Park is ‘essential’ for the English club to sign Badé and Sevilla see him as an affordable option to replace their player.

Vamos Mi Sevilla FC state Aston Villa will have a new meeting with Sevilla on Wednesday where the clubs will try to close the gap.

Aston Villa look as though they will be busy over the coming weeks.

As reported by Florian Plettenberg via X (13 January), Villa have finally reached a total agreement to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Donyell Malen, with Fabrizio Romano sharing via X (13 January) the club’s next target after this deal is complete.

In addition, as reported by Sacha Tavolieri via X (11 January), an agreement is being finalised between Villa and Caen for the transfer of Tidiam Gomis, with the 18-year-old set to put pen to paper on a five-year deal at Villa Park before joining the club in the summer.

And ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – has speculated how much this deal could cost Emery’s side.

“I think it would be an initial fee of around £8million,” King said.

“After that initial payment, there will be performance-related fees involved, which could see the total cost rise to as much as £30million if Gomis fulfils all the details which will be agreed in the contract.”

Aston Villa to pay £30million to sign Tidiam Gomis from Caen?

It is no surprise that Villa are active in the January transfer window.

Emery’s side have struggled to match their performance levels from last season, with additions to the squad needed. In addition, with the club mooted to receive a £30million-plus boost this month, it seems as though there is money to spend.

As a result, fans will be happy to see that the squad is being strengthened during this window. However, it might be a bit surprising to learn that the total package for Gomis could reach £30m.

Although he turned down offers from other clubs during the summer, the Slovakian defender may now be on the move. According to CaughtOffside, PSG could entertain offers of around €35 million, with two Premier League clubs reportedly interested.

L’Équipe adds that Škriniar is expected to make a decision soon about his next club. PSG is reportedly hoping to arrange a loan deal with an option to buy. Galatasaray, Tottenham, Napoli, and Aston Villa have all expressed interest, but Napoli’s unwillingness to include a purchase option makes the Premier League clubs more appealing to the defender.

L’Equipe reported on Sunday, citing sources close to the player, that despite rumors linking Škriniar to Napoli as part of the Khvicha Kvaratskhelia transfer, the player will not be reuniting with manager Antonio Conte.

A recent report from Bernabéu Digital states that Real Madrid are monitoring the 29-year-old Slovakian defender. He had been linked with the club before his free transfer from Inter Milan, though Real Madrid’s main focus remains on signing a younger defender for the future.

Aston Villa tempted to accept Jhon Duran offer’ after ‘extraordinary bid’

Aston Villa are increasingly tempted into letting Jhon Duran leave this month amid lingering concerns about his attitude and commitment.

Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected at the club and also spent time as the chief scout at Man United and Blackburn, exclusively told Football Insider that behind-the-scenes issues could tempt Unai Emery to let the striker leave.

Further news broke on Monday, as exclusively revealed by Football Insider, that West Ham have submitted an extraordinary £50million bid for Duran.

It is these off-field concerns which Brown insists will force Villa to listen to offers for the striker amid growing interest from West Ham and French giants PSG.

He went on to insist that the fee involved would likely be significant given his performances so far this season, while PSG are “not afraid to splash the cash”.

That comes as a result of the striker’s excellent record of 81.3 minutes per goal across all competitions so far this season, having found the net 12 times in just seven starts.

His goal tally also includes a highlight real of long-range screamers, volleys and eye-catching strikes which have quickly made him a fans’ favourite in the West Midlands.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience working closely with players at the top level including in over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted those issues and concerns have not yet been erased.

“It’s no secret that he can be difficult behind the scenes,” he told Football Insider.

“There’s something about him that just doesn’t click despite his performances on the pitch.

“So it may be that Unai Emery decides he’s more trouble than he’s worth.

“In that case, they could get rid of him in this transfer window for what would probably be a big fee, because he’s clearly a talented lad.

“If PSG come calling, we know they’re not afraid to splash the cash and if they want a player, they’re usually prepared to spend big and get him.

    Aston Villa

“Those concerns behind the scenes have just seemed to linger, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see Villa entertain talks about his exit.”

Aston Villa ‘hoping to complete £18m deal’ ahead of Everton clash

Moyes is back for his second stint as Blues chief, having been at the helm between 2002-2013. He is afforded his first two fixtures at home, but they are tricky. The first is the the visit of Villa, who finished fourth last term and are again hoping to achieve Champions League qualification.

And Unai Emery’s side could have a new forward in their ranks. Villa have made a breakthrough to sign Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund. The Telegraph reports a fee of £18 million has been agreed and that Villa ‘want to complete a deal before their Premier League match at David Moyes’ Everton’. Malen, a Netherlands international, has been a target for Villa since the transfer window opened on 1 January. He has recorded five goals and one assist for Dortmund this season.

Malen will have to be registered with the Premier League by 12pm GMT on Tuesday if he is to be named in Emery’s squad against Everton.

However, Diego Carlos may not feature for Villa. The centre-back is supposedly in talks with Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce with Villa looking to offload his high wages. In addition, Jaden Philogene, who was linked with Everton, is expected to join Ipswich Town after having his medical last week. It remains to be seen whether Philogene’s switch to Ipswich will be ratified but he may not travel even if he’s still a member of Emery’s squad.

Villa will definitely be without ex-Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, who was forced off in a 2-1 win over West Ham in the FA Cup third round last Friday. Barkley has a calf issue and may be absent for three weeks.

Emi Martinez missed out against West Ham with a minor issue so the goalkeeper could be back against Everton. Captain John McGinn (hamstring) Pau Torres (foot) are set to be unavailable.

Aston Villa Want to Sell £100k-a-Week Star as Exit Talks Begin

Aston Villa are reportedly trying to offload Diego Carlos in the January transfer window – the Brazilian is in talks with Jose Mourinho‘s Fenerbahce, as per TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey.

Carlos has been put up for sale by the Villans as they look to strengthen Unai Emery’s squad. The Brazilian centre-back has come in and out of the starting XI this season, starting eight of 10 Premier League games, helping his side keep two clean sheets.

The 31-year-old joined Villa from La Liga club Sevilla in July 2022 for £26 million. He quickly established himself as a regular but has fallen down Emery’s pecking order this term.

Emery opened up on Carlos’ situation last week and acknowledged how ‘different options can happen with players’. He highlighted how ‘important’ the 2020 UEFA Europa League winner has been.

Carlos has a year left on his contract and sits on a purported £100,000 per week. Villa are under pressure to cash in this year and a move to the Turkish Super Lig looks the most likely outcome for the veteran defender.

    Diego Carlos

Carlos is available this month, and Mourinho’s Fenerbahce are reportedly ‘deep in talks’ with the centre-back’s representatives over a move to Istanbul. He nearly left Villa Park last summer, and Fulham were in contact with the Villans about a potential deal.

Villa are prepared to part with Carlos because they have their sights set on Oscar Mingueza. The club are progressing in their pursuit of the Celta Vigo defender, and the 25-year-old is Emery’s top defensive target.

President of football operations Monchi watched Mingueza in action for Celta in a 2-1 loss to Rayo Vallecano on Friday (January 10). He could give Emery more energy at the back, with his side sitting eighth in the Premier League, conceding 32 goals, the most of any club in the top half.

Aston Villa are in the hat for Sunday’s FA Cup fourth round draw after overcoming West Ham at Villa Park.

Villa had to come from behind to beat the Hammers after Lucas Paqueta opened the scoring early in the first half by firing beyond Robin Olsen after being picked out by Crysencio Summerville cross. Amadou Onana levelled the game up in the 71st minute, before Morgan Rogers scored the winner soon after as he turned in Ollie Watkins’ ball across the box.

It was the first time Villa have won consecutive meetings with West Ham in all competitions since completing the league double over them in 2010-11. After also beating Middlesbrough in the third round last season, Villa have claimed successive third round victories since 2014-15/2015-16.

Villa not at their best, but this is knockout football

It turned out to be a great night for Villa as the club celebrated its 150th anniversary, but Emery’s side didn’t turn up for the occasion in the first hour. It really was a sluggish performance and they failed to take a single shot in the first half.

In fact, some sections of the Villa Park crowd even booed after referee Tim Robinson blew his whistle for the interval. West Ham were excellent in the first half under new boss Graham Potter, but began to retreat after the 60th minute.

It allowed Villa to take control, and in front of the powerful Holte End, they scored twice in five minutes through Onana and then Rogers.

“I am very happy because we did a very good match,” Emery told the BBC after full-time. “We’re getting stronger and more imposing. We conceded one goal. One of our work to do is to try to concede less goals. But like the season is going, as we progress we get better. We finished strong.

“To win is very important for the confidence. We gave players minutes as well. We are happy because this competition as well, historically, very important.

“In 90 minutes we were trying to be clinical. We didn’t do this in the first half, but in the second half we were better. We were dominating more and pushing more. We were more clinical. we respected this competition and respected the opponent. We did our work like we planned.”

Villa will play six games in the space of 17 days after beating West Ham, with back-to-back away league games against Everton and Arsenal to come next week.

They will approach those games with two fresh injury concerns as Emi Martinez was unable to feature due to a small injury, while Ross Barkley was forced off injured. Emery said in his post-match press conference that the midfielder could spend three weeks on the sidelines, depending on the severity of his calf injury.

Martinez, meanwhile, will hopefully return to face Everton, but that’s not a given the game isn’t far away. Villa were already without John McGinn and Pau Torres, while Diego Carlos has missed the last matches through injury too.

McGinn faces a race against time to declare himself fit to face his boyhood club Celtic in just over two weeks’ time, while Torres is set to be out for another six weeks after breaking a metatarsal.

    Emery subs pay off again

Onana replaced Barkley in the 23rd minute and he was arguably man of the match. He competed well against West Ham’s powerful double pivot of Edson Alvarez and Tomas Soucek, before scoring the all-important equaliser.

Even though it should have never been given as a corner, it was Onana’s off target shot which led to the corner, before he was on hand to stab the ball over the line moments later as West Ham failed to deal with the set-piece. After scoring in each of Villa’s 2-1 wins over West Ham this season, they’ll be fearing coming up against the big Belgian later this month in the league.

All four of Emery’s subs, Onana, Jacob Ramsey, Emi Buendia and Kosta Nedeljkovic made a positive impact on Friday night. Ramsey came within inches of scoring his first goal of the season after smacking the post from distance – it would have been a possible goal of the round contender.

Nedeljkovic showed strong athleticism going forwards and defensive nous to make a couple of important blocks as Villa protected their lead. Emi Buendia, meanwhile, once again made a strong impact after his impressive cameo against Leicester last time out.

He only played 14 minutes against Leicester and also West Ham, but it’s more than he usually gets having been restricted to less than 10 minutes in most of his appearances off the bench this term. I wrote previously about how Buendia needs to find a loan move before the end of the window if he doesn’t get opportunities in this busy period of games, but he is making a difference when he comes on.

The 28-year-old didn’t play at all last season due to a serious knee injury and in his recent two performances, we’ve seen a player who can still offer something to the squad. Perhaps a transfer would be an oversight if it were to be sanctioned. At this rate, keeping Buendia to play his role off the bench – even though he’d like to start more often – might be more beneficial to Emery than the Argentine getting more minutes elsewhere.

Morgan Rogers: Why can’t we win it?

After struggling to find the right final ball in the first 60 minutes, Rogers still managed to play a key part in the cup tie, scoring the winning goal in front of the Holte End.

It was no surprise that once Rogers started to link play better and commit West Ham players, his teammates went up a gear too.

“A bit of belief, we were a bit more patient,” Rogers said of Villa’s performance on ITV. “There was more forward thinking. We created chances, a bit more mayhem in the final third, and that’s where our goals came from.

“We know we can come back against anyone. We’ll look to rectify the start of games, but we’re happy with the way we’ve finished them.

“Why can’t we win it? Anything can happen in a cup competition. You don’t know who you’ll draw, where you’ll play.”

Aston Villa take ‘important step forward’ in January transfer bid

It has been reported that after the club’s president of football operations gave a watching brief, Aston Villa increased their efforts to recruit Spanish player Óscar Mingueza. On Friday night, while Villa was playing West Ham United at home in the FA Cup, Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo, also known as Monchi, who was in charge of organizing the Premier League team’s recruitment, traveled to his home country of Spain to see Rayo Vallecano vs. Celta Vigo.

The Spanish media made it clear that he was there to intensify the team’s defensive reinforcement efforts, and although Andrei Ratiu of Rayo Vallecano had been mentioned as a possible target, Monchi was believed to have mostly traveled for Mingueza of Celta Vigo.

Aston Villa “want to sign him now,” according to Sunday’s issue of the Spanish publication AS, suggesting that their strategy has changed and that Monchi’s visit represents a “important step forward in negotiations” to land the player.

The goal of the talks, according to Sports Witness, is to persuade Mingueza to sign, not to discuss the money, as Celta Vigo has insisted on a €20 million release clause or nothing. RB Leipzig has reportedly backed off from the 25-year-old, although there are rumors that AC Milan and AS Roma are also interested.

Unai Emery says Aston Villa likely without Ross Barkley for up to three weeks with calf injury

After suffering a calf injury during Friday’s FA Cup triumph over West Ham United, Aston Villa midfielder Ross Barkley may be sidelined for up to three weeks, according to Unai Emery. Amadou Onana took the 31-year-old’s place at Villa Park in the 23rd minute after the injury. Emery, the manager of Villa, stated: “Yes, Ross Barkley has a minor injury in his leg, but hopefully not a serious one. He will be checked tomorrow; typically, this is two or three weeks in advance.

Barkley started Villa’s most recent game against Leicester City and scored the game-winning goal despite missing five games due to a hamstring injury from September to October. This season, he has made 23 appearances across all competitions and has contributed significantly since making his second return to Villa following a £5 million summer transfer from Luton Town.

Emery will be without midfield options for several weeks due to fellow midfielder John McGinn’s hamstring injury sustained during the Leicester match. Amadou Onana, Boubacar Kamara, and Youri Tielemans are among Emery’s other center midfield options. Villa’s 2-1 victory over West Ham advanced them to the FA Cup fourth round.
