Meet the opposition Ipswich Town v Southampton preview: Pay attention to the Saints

This Saturday, Ipswich Town will play struggling Southampton in a pivotal match at Portman Road.

Alex Jones examines the Saints in greater detail…

  • When Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion play one other on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League, they hope to recover from dismal losses.

Last Saturday, Forest was dragged back to earth after suffering a crushing defeat at Bournemouth, when they gave up five goals.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team is still in third position, but they are now only three points behind Newcastle United, who are in fifth place, as they attempt to maintain their Champions League qualifying slot.

In Saturday’s early kickoff slot, the Premier League’s unexpected top performers must overcome Brighton, while the Seagulls also need to bounce back from their lackluster home loss to the resurgent Everton the previous weekend.

Before falling to the Toffees, the south coast team had won two straight league games after going on a losing streak.

Brighton has six confirmed absences and several injury concerns going into the Midlands. Jason Steele, Igor, and Ferdi Kadioglu are absent in defense, and Mats Wieffer and James Milner are out in midfield.

Though there are rumors that Evan Ferguson would leave in January, the Irishman will be sidelined for the Forest match due to injury.

The NFL Draft is one of the most exciting times for football fans. They get to watch their favorite team select a new crop of players that could come in and change the course of the franchise. It’s truly the opportunity for any franchise to turn itself around in a night.

Eric Edholm of NFL.com recently made a shocking prediction in his first NFL mock draft. Edholm predicted the Jacksonville Jaguars would take Tyler Warren at pick No. 5 and the Las Vegas Raiders would select Ashton Jeanty at pick No. 6. This leaves Colorado quarterback available for Edholm to project at pick No. 7 to the New York Jets.

“I’m not buying the ‘Sanders at No. 1’ talk, and I thought about sliding him down further (to the Steelers?), but then I remembered the Jets don’t really have a QB,” Edholm wrote. “Maybe it doesn’t happen, but this pairing would be … interesting.”

This entire mock draft was much different than a lot of the projections, but if Sanders is available when the Jets are on the clock, it’s a no-brainer to select him.

Sanders, son of NFL legend Deion Sanders, has been incredible for his entire college career. In 2024, the 6-foot-2 signal caller threw for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and ten interceptions. He finished his two years at Colorado with 7,364 yards, 64 touchdowns, and only 13 interceptions.

Mind you, there’s almost no chance Sanders will fall all the way to pick No. 7, but if the draft unfolds the way Edholm projects, the Jets may land their quarterback of the future.

How to watch the Premier League match between Nottingham Forest and Brighton (2/1/20) | Channel, stream,

Last week, Nottingham Forest received a sobering reminder of reality.

The Trees, who had gone undefeated for eight games in a row, were crushed by Bournemouth last Saturday by a pitiful final score of 5-0.

In addition to being Nottingham’s worst defeat of the season, it also demonstrated how much work this side still needs to do to stay competitive in the Premier League.

The team must be tired of losing to another team, even when they are in the top four.

The Trees are now in third place in the league standings going into Saturday, nine points behind Liverpool in first place but four points behind dropping out of the top six.

Brighton is acting in a way that supporters have been used to in recent years.

Not reliable enough to be there, but good enough to be a European spot.

Although four of those games ended in draws, the Seagulls had a six-game winning streak going into last weekend.

However, they lost to lowly Everton 1-0 at home, which was disheartening. It cost Brighton a chance to get closer to a top-six finish.

‘We Missed Him in a Big Way’: Mavericks’ Danté Exum will make his season debut against the Pistons.

DETROIT — As the club gets ready for their game against the Detroit Pistons, the Dallas Mavericks have made Danté Exum accessible for the first time this season, which is a positive development.

After recovering from surgery on his right wrist, Exum will be limited to 15 minutes as he gradually resumes competition.

After they manage his workload, the Mavericks will assess how his time on the court went.

Jason Kidd, the head coach of the Mavericks, stated that he would be subject to a minute restriction. “We’ll observe his stints.”

The return of Exum to the starting lineup is crucial for the Mavericks, who have been dealing with a number of injuries for months.

It is anticipated that his ability to manage the ball, create open shots, and play defense will help.

Before sustaining his injury during training camp, he was supposed to be the starting backup guard.

Kidd described him as a team player who can push the ball, set the table, play defense, and make open shots.

“We are glad to have him back because we really missed him.”

Well, it’s probably more than safe to say that the first meeting between Jedd Fisch’s Washington Huskies and the Oregon Ducks didn’t go the way any Washington Husky football fan would have wanted.

In Fisch’s first season leading the Huskies, Washington suffered a 28-point loss to the Ducks in Eugene, Oregon. That sort of rivalry loss in Autzen Stadium? Well, it sucked.

And it really wasn’t encouraging seeing Demond Williams Jr. routinely pummeled and sacked with ease in that rivalry game. I, for one, didn’t enjoy seeing that and I’m sure the young quarterback in his first start ever didn’t enjoy experiencing that.

But this coming Washington Husky football season, Jedd Fisch and the Huskies won’t have to go to Eugene to meet up with the Ducks. Instead, Dan Lanning will be bringing the Oregon football team to Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium.

Unless something bizarre happens between now and when UW hosts the Ducks, Washington and Oregon will meet up in Husky Stadium on November 29 to wrap up the regular season.

And Washington will take on a number of tough tests before we even see the Huskies get to play the Ducks during UW’s second season under Fisch’s guidance. Washington also gets the distinct pleasure of playing a schedule that features the Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan Wolverines, Illinois Fighting Illini, and Wisconsin Badgers. Oh, and the Apple Cup is in there as well.

So, there are plenty of tough tests for Fisch and the Huskies this season. And of course, that regular season finale against the Oregon Ducks. But, well, at least the final regular season game of the 2025 Washington Husky schedule will be in Husky Stadium.

And here’s to hoping that Fisch and the Huskies will be able to find a way to take the Oregon Ducks down in that final regular season game.

Match Preview: Albion will have a difficult time taking down the tricky trees.

Brighton will travel to the East Midlands to play Nottingham Forest, a team that has shocked everyone this season by securing a Champions League spot.

Both Forest and the Albion will be looking to bounce back and resume their winning ways going into this match after suffering different defeats. Brighton loses to Everton.

Last weekend’s match against Everton at the Amex brought Brighton back to earth after an outstanding away performance against Manchester United

Against a faltering Toffees team, the Albion had a great chance to win three straight Premier League games for the first time.

Bears explore Ben Johnson connection by signing Lions receiver

The Bears can always use return and receiver help, especially from someone familiar with Ben Johnson’s offense and they added a former Detroit practice squad player Friday.

    In this story:

Lions and Saints coaches with Ben Johnson ties have been brought in over the course of the last week by the Bears and now it’s a player.

Although free agency doesn’t start until March 10 with the legalized tampering period, former Lions wide receiver Maurice Alexander was signed by the Bears Friday to a futures contract.

A slot receiver type at 5-foot-11, 174 pounds, the 28-year-old from Florida International has been a practice squad player for the Lions who got into seven games total for Detroit over the 2022 and 2024 seasons. He played in the USFL in 2022 before the NFL season and made 20 catches for 234 yards.

He caught only one pass for 7 yards but displayed some special teams ability by averaging 24.3 yards on six kick returns in 2022, with a long of 47 yards. HE also returned four punts this past season for a very healthy 10.5-yard average.

The Bears used DeAndre Carter in the return game until a hamstring injury against the 49ers in December. Carter averaged 31.9 yards for 15 kick returns and 9.3 for his 17 punts returned. His kick return average was third-highest in the league for anyone with at least 12 returns.

Carter was working on a one-year contract in 2024.

  • Predicted Southampton lineup vs Ipswich Town: Albert Gronbaek to start?

Predicted Southampton lineup vs Ipswich Town: Albert Gronbaek to start?

Ramsdale’s absence was felt last week. That being said, let’s hope that the shot-stopper marks his return with a statement performance.

    LB – Ryan Manning.

Manning must start as his crosses could give Southampton the lead, again.

    CB – Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

A defensive change is needed but Harwood-Bellis will still be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Ivan Juric must drop Bree and pair Bednarek alongside Harwood-Bellis. Also, the 28-year-old will want to score in the third consecutive game as well.

Without a doubt, the best fullback in Southampton’s squad. Further, he has stepped up his defensive efforts recently.

Being fit, Sulemana must hit the ground running straightaway. Notably, his partnership with Manning could help unlock the Ipswich defence.

Aribo will start again but with only four defenders, could be given a more defensive role.

    CM – Lesley Ugochukwu.

Visibly exhausted last week against Newcastle. Having a week’s time, should be back to his best form.

    RM – Albert Gronbaek.

In all honesty, Gronbaek holds the key to Juric’s midfield problems. The winger should be given the freedom to anchor Southampton’s attack.

    CF – Mateus Fernandes.

Sparks energy and vibrancy up front. Also, playing centrally would allow him to take more shots on goal.

    ST – Paul Onuachu.

Rushing Tyler Dibling from his injury wouldn’t be a wise idea. As a result, Juric must retain his faith in Onuachu to deliver the goals once again.
