Gabriel sparks Erling Haaland tensions with heated goal celebration

Pep Guardiola says Haaland will control his emotions as striker prepares to face Gabriel in Arsenal clash

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes wasted no time renewing his rivalry with Erling Haaland after the Gunners scored within two minutes against Manchester City in their huge Premier League clash at the Emirates.

Champions City made a calamitous start as Pep Guardiola’s side were caught playing out from the back and Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard finished first-time to give the hosts the lead after just 104 seconds.

And Gabriel, who clashed with Haaland during the fractious 2-2 draw between the teams in September, celebrated by shouting into the Norwegian’s face as he ran past him to celebrate with his team-mates by the corner.

Haaland claps at Haaland as Arsenal went on to win 5-1 against the champions

Haaland, pointedly, did not celebrate towards Gabriel after scoring a second-half equaliser to make it 1-1, before the Gunners ran away with the contest and romped to a statement 5-1 thrashing of the champions to spark their title challenge into life.

Arsenal scored just 38 seconds after the restart when Thomas Partey’s strike deflected in off John Stones before Myles Lewis-Skelly added a third. The 18-year-old marked his goal by appearing to mock Haaland as he copied his goal celebration.

There appeared to be a further flashpoint between Haaland and Gabriel as Arsenal went on to score a fourth and fifth, with the Brazilian centre-back clapping towards the Norwegian.

In another moment, Gabriel appeared to reject Haaland’s hand when the striker tried to help him to his feet. Gabriel had pulled at Haaland’s shorts when on the ground.

Haaland hit back by pointing to the golden Premier League ‘champions’ logo on his sleeve, telling Gabriel that he has won a Premier League title and Arsenal have now gone 20 years without one.

The tension between the players began in September. Haaland was tightly marked by Gabriel in the draw at the Etihad earlier this season and emotions spilled over when Haaland threw the ball the ball into the back of the defender’s head when City scored a late equaliser.

Haaland then told Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to “stay humble” and clashed with several Gunners players after the final whistle.

Haaland and Gabriel’s rivalry was a plot point ahead of Arsenal and City facing off in a must-win clash for both teams but the 24-year-old was defended by manager Guardiola before the match and his behaviour on the pitch was praised

“I’m surprised how he controls his emotions,” said Guardiola ahead of Sunday’s Premier League return encounter between the sides at the Emirates Stadium.

“Do you know that in every action he’s being pulled and the referee plays on? How many times has it happened? He’s never complained. He behaves incredibly well.

“When he pushes, it’s his fault – that’s for sure, 100 per cent – but he controls himself. He got emotional one time. For one day, I’m going to adjudicate what Erling has done? No, come on.

“It was not easy when you’re (playing) 90 minutes then Gabriel, the central defender, pushes him, hugs him and hacks him and hugs him and kisses him and these things. At the end, he’s a human being, he has to react.

Lewis Hamilton has secured a huge victory over Charles Leclerc during their first showdown as team-mates in the latest poll offered to GPFans’ readers.

Hamilton and Leclerc unveil 2025 F1 helmet designs

Hamilton and Leclerc also revealed their fresh helmet designs for 2025, with Leclerc opting for the red and white of the Monaco flag for the upcoming season.

On the other hand, Hamilton returned to the yellow colour scheme he displayed on his McLaren and Mercedes debuts, in an old-school theme for the champion.

Hamilton has begun a streak of repeating old habits upon his move to a new team, after crashing during testing with Ferrari in Barcelona earlier this week.

In fact, Hamilton has crashed during every testing session with a new team during his F1 career, having done the same at McLaren and Mercedes in the past, before going on to win the drivers’ title the following year on both occasions as well.

So, could his lucky yellow helmet continue the trend of success with a new team?

In GPFans’ recent poll we asked F1 fans which was their favourite of the new designs, with Hamilton securing his first huge victory over Leclerc in their debut showdown.

A staggering 79 per cent of fans voted for Hamilton’s yellow helmet, in a major boost for the new Ferrari star, with Leclerc meanwhile only enjoying 21 per cent of the vote in a first crushing defeat against the seven-time champion.

The team-mates will next return to the track in Barcelona in the SF-24 for Pirelli’s 2026 tyre test on February 4 and 5, before stepping into the 2025 challenger in Bahrain for vital pre-season testing from February 26-28.

After scoring against Ipswich Town, Southampton’s Aribo is prepared to compete for a spot in the top flight.

Joe Ayodele-Aribo, a midfielder for Southampton and the Super Eagles, has stated that his team will do everything in their power to stay in the English Premier League at the end of the season, according to Soccernet.ng.

Paul Onuachu’s goal in the 87th minute gave the Saints their first away victory of the season Wednesday at Portman Road. Aribo and Onuachu were the first Super Eagles players to score in a victory for St.

Mary Stadium yesterday, making Southampton’s triumph another memorable one.

Since I was at the left center back and was trying to sprint as I was rushing over, but I had nothing left in my legs and was only jogging with my hands out, the late winner [from Onuachu] was a huge relief. So, yes, that was a wonderful sensation.

  • Commanders Trade Pitch Reunites McLaurin With Elite WR for 1st-Round Pick

Commanders Trade Pitch Reunites McLaurin With Elite WR for 1st-Round Pick

The Washington Commanders have already shown they have the building blocks of a team that can contend meaningfully for several seasons to come. The next step is rounding out the roster to make it truly Super Bowl-worthy.

Among the team’s likeliest moves toward that end this offseason is adding a second elite wide receiver alongside Terry McLaurin to provide QB Jayden Daniels with the kind of weaponry the other top offenses in the league boast.

Tee Higgins of the Cincinnati Bengals is bound for free agency in March and could be an option, though Washington would run the risk of overpaying a borderline elite wideout too much money in order to outbid the competition.

    Aaron Rodgers Jets

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (left) and wide receiver Garrett Wilson

pursue the pass-catcher they need via a trade. That would open up the team’s options to a wider field of talent and perhaps allow the Commanders to land on a better fit at a more optimal price. One option is a deal with the New York Jets for Garrett Wilson, which Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report floated on Saturday, February 1.

“An extension for Wilson would undoubtedly be part of the equation here, but the Commanders have more cap space than any team in the NFC ($86.7 million),” Davenport wrote. “It’d be worth surrendering the 29th overall pick to gain a proven wide receiver who would (along with former college teammate Terry McLaurin) give the Commanders one of the better one-two punches at wideout in the league.”

The tension between Wilson and current Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been well publicized, and the future at quarterback in New York is one of the prominent questions of the NFL offseason.

Washington would need to surrender its first-round pick this year and a sixth-rounder in 2026 in Davenport’s proposal, but it would also allow the Commanders to lock up a true No. 1 in Garrett alongside another true No. 1 in McLaurin for years to come.

Garrett has eclipsed 1,000 yards receiving in all three of his professional seasons despite playing almost exclusively with subpar quarterbacks — primarily Zach Wilson and the 41-year-old ghost of Rodgers coming off a serious Achilles injury.

  • Winner named in Everton, West Ham and Crystal Palace race to sign £45m Premier League star

Winner named in Everton, West Ham and Crystal Palace race to sign £45m Premier League star

Everton are set for a frantic end to the winter transfer window.

David Moyes is keen to add reinforcements before the window slams shut on Monday and it’s understood the club are closing in on their first signing.

The 7 WORST Football Club Rebrands

Carlos Alcaraz is on the verge of joining Everton from Flamengo on an initial loan deal with a buy option inserted which will become mandatory if certain clauses are activated.

Alcaraz has already had a spell in the Premier League with Southampton, so it should be a much simpler transition than most leaving the Brazillian league.

Everton are now exploring other deals and with that said, a fresh update on Ben Chilwell’s situation has just come to light.

Crystal Palace agree Ben Chilwell deal

Everton have been eyeing Ben Chilwell this month as Moyes look to provide Vitaliy Mykolenko at left-back.

It was understood that Chilwell was open to making a move to Goodison Park, but now Crystal Palace have stolen a march on his signature.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Palace have agreed a loan deal to sign the £45m man, with the final decision now up to the player.

Evidently, a move just across the capital was more appealing for Chilwell, so Everton may have to stick with just Mykolenko as the only natural left-back at the club until the summer.

Ashley Young does have plenty of experience playing there, though, so missing out on Chilwell shouldn’t be too much of a blow.

    Everton should prioritise attacking reinforcements

After Alcaraz, Everton may be able to get one more through the door before Monday’s deadline.

So instead of trying to sign an alternative target at left-back, they should prioritise a move for a centre-forward.

WIth Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, that’s evidently the most important area of the pitch to address.

Everton had been monitoring Evan Ferguson, but he now looks set to join West Ham.

  • Crystal Palace in transfer tussle to sign Danilho Doekhi

Crystal Palace in transfer tussle to sign Danilho Doekhi

Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers are keen on signing 26-year-old Dutch defender Danilho Doekhi from Bundesliga club Union Berlin this month.

According to a report by Football Insider, Danilho Doekhi is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. The Eagles have been keen on signing a centre-back in the winter transfer window since losing Trevoh Chalobah, with Chelsea terminating the loan deal. However, Wolverhampton Wanderers are also keen on signing the Dutch defender from Bundesliga club Union Berlin this month.

    Who is Danilho Doekhi?

Danilho Doekhi has been one of the most underrated defenders in the Bundesliga since joining Union Berlin from Vitesse Arnhem in July 2022. The Dutchman played his part as Die Eisernen clinched UEFA Champions League qualification in his debut season with the German club.

Since then, the 26-year-old has been a dependable performer for the Bundesliga outfit, even though his teammates have blown hot and cold. Doekhi has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for Union Berlin while chipping in with nine goals and two assists.

Meanwhile, the Dutch defender’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards before the winter transfer window shuts down, with Crystal Palace among the prospective suitors vying for his signature this month.

Crystal Palace’s interest in Danilho Doekhi is understandable. The Eagles have been scouring the market for a centre-back since losing Trevoh Chalobah after Chelsea terminated his loan deal with the South London club. Chalobah’s departure has depleted Oliver Glasner’s options, with the crisis worsening after Chadi Riad sustained a knee injury.

So, several candidates, including Ousmane Diao, have emerged on Crystal Palace’s radar, with Doekhi also a viable target. However, the Eagles face stiff competition from fellow Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers for the 26-year-old Dutchman’s signature in the final hours of the winter transfer window.

Wolverhampton Wanderers were recently interested in Kevin Danso and came close to signing the Austrian defender before Tottenham swooped in and secured his services. So, it will be interesting to see if the Black Country outfit can beat Crystal Palace to the Union Berlin centre-back’s signature, although it is unclear if the Bundesliga club will sanction the Dutch defender’s exit.

Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo hailed a “fantastic day” as he reflected on Nottingham Forest’s 7-0 destruction of Brighton and Hove Albion at the City Ground.

The Reds responded to last weekend’s horror show of a 5-0 thumping at Bournemouth by recording their biggest ever Premier League victory. It moved them level on points with second-placed Arsenal in the table.

Chris Wood bagged the second hat-trick of his Forest career while Morgan Gibbs-White, Neco Williams and Jota Silva also got in on the act after a Lewis Dunk own goal had opened the scoring. Below is a look at what Reds head coach Nuno had to say after the final whistle Trentside.

On responding to the 5-0 defeat at Bournemouth…

“We were looking for a response. It was our responsibility to do much better because last week was not good enough. The response of the players was beyond our expectations.”

On whether it was Forest’s best performance of his tenure…

“I’m always looking forward to what’s ahead. I hope we continue. It is important to continue.

“I cannot judge if it was the best one or not. Sometimes you can lose and play good.”

    On Gibbs-White impressing…

“He did great. But not only him, all the team. All the team was ruthless in the way they wanted to show their talent.

“Morgan was good. Chris, good. Anthony was amazing with three assists. Overall, very good. All the players did really well.”

    On the Reds’ ruthlessness…

“It shows desire. But we have to realise these results are not normal in the Premier League – what happened last week and what happened today.

“In a very short period of time, we have been on both sides of one. When we were on the other side, we felt how difficult it was when your opponent is ruthless like we were today.

“There was a moment where Brighton were one-vs-one and hit the crossbar. That could change the game. We were fortunate to stay in the game and after that, it was really nice to see and beautiful. The crowd were asking for the players to go. Amazing.

    Don’t miss

Morgan Gibbs-White celebrates scoring for Nottingham Forest against Brighton and Hove Albion

“We prepare as best we can. After that, there are so many circumstances in the game that can change. The intensity of our play was totally different today. This is what we expect from them – being aggressive, compact and solid.

“Having an extra body in the back line helped a lot to shorten the gaps. It was good. Fantastic day. What more can you ask for?

    Nottingham Forest: Special reports

To celebrate the success of Nottingham Forest this season, we are writing a series of features celebrating events at the City Ground.

From the finances to the former managers. Looking at how the City is benefitting from what Nuno’s team are doing on the pitch.

We take a deep dive into Evangelos Marinakis and his aspirations for the club – can the Reds match them?

On the type of performance he craves…

“There is no measure on that. It is so different, what happened last week and what happened today. I would rather be in the middle of it – not so high and not so low, if we can be stable and sustain our levels. But it is so hard and so competitive.”

On whether Forest have answered any doubts levelled against them after Bournemouth…

“No. It will happen again. The questions and the doubts will always be present. We have to deal with that.

“We got beat last week and today we got up and showed. If it didn’t happen, our obligation was to go again in the next one and the next one until we get it right. This is how we should think, because not every day is going to be like today.”

“It was great to see. He made a couple of mistakes, but that was normal due to the long period of him not being involved.

“But overall he looked comfortable in the game. It was good to see Ibrahim (Sangare) get some minutes as well.

“It is important to get them back into the squad because we have been missing them. We have good options in midfield. I am confident that they can help us.”

    On Murillo being substituted…

“Murillo went off with a dead leg. We think that was the problem. But we think he is going to be okay. We are going to assess him.

On the final two days of the transfer window…

“While the window is open, it is open. Anything can happen. But I will reinforce what I have been saying, not only to you (the media) but also to the club, more than anything our priority was to keep the players.

“If it is something really special; if it is a piece – a player – that we really need and it is possible, fantastic, because we are not perfect and if somebody can help us, great. But that has to be somebody really special.”

  • EPL: Nottingham Forest batters Brighton 7-0 as Wood records a hat-trick.

EPL: Nottingham Forest batters Brighton 7-0 as Wood records a hat-trick.

At the City Ground on Saturday, Chris Wood scored a hat-trick as Nottingham Forest crushed Brighton 7-0 to rekindle their push for the Champions League the following season.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team put on an incredible display as they recovered from a 5-0 loss at Bournemouth last weekend, with Morgan Gibbs-White, Neco Williams, and Jota Silva also scoring after Lewis Dunk’s own goal opened the scoring.

Due to English clubs’ impressive start in European tournaments, fifth place in the Premier League this season is nearly guaranteed to be sufficient for Champions League qualification. Forest, who won the European Cup twice in 1979 and 1980 when the team was at its best under Brian Clough, didn’t participate in Europe again until 1996. However, they are well on their way to ending their two-decade wait for continental competition after winning ten of their last twelve games.

Forest was only the second team in Premier League history to win by that margin after losing a match by five goals or more.

“That’s exactly what the fans wanted and what we wanted after last week,” Gibbs-White stated. “There was no way last week.”

  • Usain Bolt raced average humans in 100m race and what happened next is extraordinary

Usain Bolt raced average humans in 100m race and what happened next is extraordinary

To put it mildly, Usain Bolt’s 100- and 200-meter records have endured throughout time. The retired Jamaican has not been defeated in the fifteen years since Bolt recorded his personal-best performances at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. That raises the question of how Bolt might do in comparison to the average person.

The now 38-year-old put that to bed back in 2016, as James Corden challenged him to a 100m dash on his hit American show ‘The Late Late Show’.

Bolt had to race Corden, actor Owen Wilson, and every member of the show’s crew. It came as no surprise when the record-breaking sprinter easily defeated his rivals and won first place.

In a skintight top, Corden’s physique was on full display, and he soon lost ground to the majority of the competitors. Wilson made a cheeky attempt to get ahead of the Olympian, but he was likewise utterly unsuccessful. After sprinting ahead, Bolt slowed into a light canter and easily won first place. “Usain Bolt, one,” Bolt declared following the race. One hundred, James Corden. He’s not prepared.

Bolt finished the segment by posing with his trademark pose having conquered yet another set of fairly-average opponents

Perhaps the fact that Bolt’s records have not yet fallen is evidence of his diligence throughout the years. The closest 200-meter time was recorded by US sprinter Noah Lyles in Eugene in 2022, with a timing of 19.31.

Bolt now has a 19.19 record, and Lyles has previously said that his goal is to defeat the greatest Jamaican of all time. “I know that I’m going to break it,” Lyles remarked in reference to the 2023 record. “After witnessing someone accomplish greatness, the second most popular and beloved pastime of people is witnessing them fail. “People enjoy seeing others fail. They simply do. I have no idea why.

Because they don’t know who I am, my background, my hobbies, my level of talent, or how hard I work. However, I am aware.
