Coventry City continue to be in talks with Brighton for goalkeeper Carl Rushworth amid claims that a second bid has been rejected for the player.
It has been widely reported that the Sky Blues had a £20million bid knocked back in recent weeks and Sky Sports News is now saying that one of their sources has told them that a “higher proposal” has also been rejected.
But Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth reports: “ Coventry City remain in talks with Brighton over the signing of keeper Carl Rushworth.”
As we reported last week, CoventryLive understands that the 24-year-old continues to be Frank Lampard’s prime target despite links with interest in Everton’s back-up keeper Mark Travers.
City, understandably, will have alternative options in mind should they be unable to reach a compromise with Brighton. The Seagulls, meanwhile, have added another goalkeeper to their ranks with the signing of Fulham’s Oliver Mayer – the 18-year-old joining the club’s Under-21s.
Interestingly, City’s newly appointed goalkeeper coach Sal Bibbo, who has joined from Rangers and replaces Aled Williams, previously worked with Rushworth at Brighton.
The 51-year-old was Brighton Under-21s/23s goalkeeper coach between 2021-23. And although Rushworth was out on loan in those seasons, Bibbo will have been very aware of him from a young age.
