Leicester City confirm first transfer as deal finally goes through to start rebuild

Bilal El Khannouss’ move to Stuttgart has been confirmed by the club after spending last year on loan with the Bundesliga side

Leicester City have confirmed Bilal El Khannouss’ permanent transfer to Stuttgart. The playmaker, who is currently at the World Cup with Morocco, spent last season on loan with the Bundesliga outfit on loan.

El Khannouss joined the club following City’s relegation from the Premier League with the deal including an obligation to make it permanent. The 22-year-old played 41 times for Stuttgart, scoring nine and assisting seven.

Stuttgart confirmed the permanent move at the end of May after the conditions in the loan agreement were met. However, City have now announced the exit themselves following the turn of the financial year.

A club statement read: “We can confirm that midfielder Bilal El Khannouss has completed a permanent transfer from Leicester City to Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart for an undisclosed fee.

“The 22-year-old Morocco international spent the 2025/26 season on loan with the German club after arriving at King Power Stadium from Belgian side Genk in the summer of 2024.

“In total, El Khannouss played 39 times for us in all competitions, scoring three goals.”

No exact figure has been disclosed but reports in Germany claimed that Stuttgart will pay €17million (£14.6m) on top of the €3m (£2.6m) loan fee that they paid last year. LeicestershireLive understands that City are making a profit on the playmaker, who cost around £21m, due to the substantial loan fee paid.
