South Africa’s Akani Simbine wins Men’s 100m at the FBK Games in the Netherlands with a time of 10.08 seconds

South African sprint star Akani Simbine continued his outstanding 2026 campaign by claiming victory in the men’s 100 metres at the FBK Games in Hengelo, Netherlands, crossing the finish line in 10.08 seconds. The experienced sprinter once again demonstrated why he remains one of the world’s most consistent performers over the short sprint, edging out a quality international field in a tightly contested race.

The race produced an exciting finish as Simbine narrowly defeated fellow South African Bradley Nkoana. Both athletes were officially credited with the same time of 10.08 seconds, with Simbine taking the victory after a photo finish separated the pair by just thousandths of a second. The result completed an impressive one-two finish for South Africa and highlighted the country’s growing strength in men’s sprinting.

American sprinter Ronnie Baker finished third in 10.11 seconds after another strong performance, while Dutch athlete Taymir Burnet placed fourth. Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala, one of Africa’s fastest men and one of Simbine’s biggest rivals, crossed the line in fifth place with a time of 10.13 seconds. Omanyala had travelled to the Netherlands shortly after winning the Kenyan national title, making his performance all the more remarkable despite missing out on the podium.

Although the winning time of 10.08 seconds was not among the fastest seen this season, the conditions in Hengelo were far from ideal. Cool temperatures and tactical racing meant athletes had to rely on strong finishes rather than blistering early acceleration. Simbine executed his race perfectly, maintaining his composure before powering through the closing metres to secure another international victory.

For Simbine, the victory adds another significant achievement to an already impressive season. The South African has consistently challenged the world’s best sprinters and continues to prove that experience and consistency are invaluable at the highest level. His performances this year have reinforced his reputation as one of the leading contenders whenever he steps onto the track.

The result also sends an encouraging message ahead of upcoming major competitions, including the Diamond League meetings and the Commonwealth Games. Simbine appears to be building momentum at exactly the right time and will be confident of challenging for more victories as the international season progresses.

South Africa’s sprint programme has enjoyed remarkable success in recent years, and the emergence of young athletes like Bradley Nkoana alongside established stars such as Simbine suggests the nation has an exciting future. Their one-two finish at the FBK Games underlines the impressive depth now available in South African sprinting.

As the countdown continues toward the biggest championships of the season, Akani Simbine has once again shown that he remains among the elite sprinters in the world. His victory in Hengelo was another reminder of his class, determination and ability to deliver when it matters most, making him one of the athletes to watch in every major race over the coming months.
