Jordan James issues Leicester City farewell message as relegation rules out transfer

The Welsh midfielder was City’s top scorer this season, but he was unable to keep them in the Championship, with injuries affecting him in the second half of the campaign

A “gutted” Jordan James has wished Leicester City the best for the future in a farewell message.

Relegation means City have missed out on a chance to sign the Welsh midfielder permanently, having brought him in on loan from Stade Rennais with an option to buy him for around £5m.

James, who has been City’s star man this season, will now return to France but likely get a move back to England, either in the Championship or Premier League.

He said on social media: “A frustrating season, in which we fell short in so many places. Gutted.

“I just wanted to come on here to say thank you for all the support this season, from the minute I arrived I’ve felt nothing but love. An amazing club and fanbase and I wish you nothing but the best in the future. Thank you, Foxes.”

Sky has upgraded its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle to now include HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+ and Hayu, as well as 135 channels and full Sky coverage of the Premier League and EFL.

Sky broadcasts more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more with at least 215 live from the top flight alongside Formula 1, darts and golf.

The 21-year-old finished as City’s top scorer with 11 goals and won the Championship’s young player of the season award.

His injuries in the second half of the season were a blow to the club. He picked up a hamstring strain in the draw at Wrexham in January that saw him miss six matches.

Then, he hurt his heel on Wales duty in March, meaning he could only start one of City’s final seven fixtures.

City picked up 33 points in the 27 matches James started, while 19 points in 19 matches when he didn’t.

Of the four wins City collected without James in their 11, three were in August before he signed for the club, with the other on the final day at Blackburn.
