Leicester City were left ruing a moment of madness as a costly decision turned a winnable contest against Birmingham City into a frustrating evening. Despite spells of control and the encouraging debut of a new signing who caught the eye, the Foxes ultimately paid the price for a lapse in judgement that shifted momentum at a crucial stage.
Here’s how the Leicester players rated on the night:
Mads Hermansen – 6
Had little chance with the decisive goal and made a couple of routine saves to keep Leicester competitive. His distribution was generally tidy, though one loose pass in the second half invited unnecessary pressure. Not his busiest outing, but dependable enough.
James Justin – 6
Offered energy down the right and supported attacks well in the first half. Defensively he was steady without being spectacular, though he was caught slightly out of position in the build-up to Birmingham’s winner.
Wout Faes – 5
A mixed evening. Strong in the air and aggressive in duels, but his decision-making proved costly. A rash challenge in a dangerous area handed Birmingham the opportunity they capitalised on. That “daft decision” ultimately defined his performance.
Jannik Vestergaard – 6
Generally composed and read the game well. Cleared his lines effectively and tried to organise the back line after Leicester went behind. Could do little to prevent the turning point.
Ricardo Pereira – 7
One of Leicester’s brighter performers. Confident on the ball and sharp in transition, he linked defence and attack smoothly. His overlapping runs created Leicester’s best openings before the break.
Wilfred Ndidi – 6
Worked tirelessly in midfield, breaking up play and covering ground. However, he struggled to regain control after Birmingham gained momentum. A solid but unspectacular display.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 7
Full of intent and creativity. His movement between the lines caused Birmingham problems and he delivered a handful of inviting passes into the final third. Deserved more from those around him.
Stephy Mavididi – 6
Lively and direct, especially in the first half. He drove at defenders and forced a smart save with a curling effort. Faded slightly as the game wore on.
Patson Daka – 5
Worked hard but lacked the cutting edge Leicester needed. His runs were intelligent, yet service was inconsistent and he failed to truly test the Birmingham goalkeeper.
Kelechi Iheanacho – 6
Showed flashes of creativity and nearly unlocked the defence with a clever through-ball midway through the second half. Drifted in and out of the game.
New Signing (Debutant) – 8
The standout performer. Fearless in possession and composed under pressure, he brought a fresh spark to Leicester’s attack. His movement stretched Birmingham’s defence and he looked sharp throughout, nearly scoring with a powerful strike from the edge of the box. If this display is anything to go by, he could prove a key addition in the weeks ahead.
Substitutes:
Harry Winks – 6
Added control after coming on and tried to dictate tempo, though the game was already slipping away.
Jamie Vardy – 6
Brought urgency and nearly snatched a late equaliser with a clever near-post run.
In truth, Leicester will feel they had enough quality to take something from the match. For long stretches they were the more composed side, but football often hinges on fine margins. One reckless moment proved decisive, overshadowing the encouraging signs shown by their impressive new arrival. If they can cut out the avoidable errors while building around the debutant’s promise, the Foxes will remain firmly in the hunt in the weeks ahead.
