Leicester City could compete for the loan signing of Lyndon Dykes as he looks set to leave Birmingham this month.
City are in need of a forward this month after their move for Michail Antonio broke down, and, according to the Daily Mail, are one of a number of Championship clubs looking at Dykes, with Charlton the frontrunners.
Dykes has played under City boss Marti Cifuentes before, at QPR, and scored six goals in 32 Championship appearances under the Spaniard.
The 30-year-old is keen to leave St Andrew’s in order to boost his hopes of making Scotland’s World Cup squad.
Game-time at Birmingham has been difficult to come by for Dykes, who has started just two Championship matches this season. Looking for a route out, he was omitted from their squad for the FA Cup victory over Cambridge at the weekend.
In what is expected to be a busy month of business at Birmingham, manager Chris Davies, the former City assistant boss, seemed to suggest that Dykes would be able to leave.
“At the moment we have got a lot of moving parts around players potentially coming in and players potentially going out,” Davies said last week when asked about the absence of Dykes and fellow fringe player Marc Leonard.
“We’re looking at everything and trying to put a squad together for each match that works for us.
“We’ll see how the next weeks go with it all, there’s going to be a lot of moving parts in the next three weeks, I’m sure.
“We’ve been talking a lot to the players and their agents, they haven’t had as much game time as they would like, which is fair. We’ll see how it all develops and things will become clearer as the weeks go by with them.”
Dykes has had a tough time since joining Birmingham, scoring just three goals in 46 league appearances across League One and the Championship.
Prior to that, he managed 35 goals in 156 Championship outings across four years at QPR, a rate of one goal every four-and-a-half games.
City are down one striker since losing Julian Carranza, although he failed to score in his nine appearances for the club.
Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka have seven goals between them across all competitions, with two of those coming from the penalty spot.
