The road to finding Celtic’s next manager has already begun, and the rumour mill is starting to warm up.
Everyone has seen the obvious names emerge, such as Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou, but Kieran McKenna’s name has also been put on the table.
67 Hail Hail has learned that McKenna is a ‘realistic option’ for Celtic, with the Northern Irishman currently manager of English Championship side Ipswich Town.
Despite Ipswich’s relegation from the Premier League last season, McKenna is still a popular man among the fanbase, and their supporters reacted to these Celtic rumours.

Ipswich fans react to Kieran McKenna’s links to Celtic
The feeling from the Ipswich fans on social media is mixed, but rather interesting.
Some can’t see McKenna moving to Celtic, but others can’t see how he can turn away such a huge opportunity to manage the champions of Scotland.
Others even threw in the crazy scenario of Brendan Rodgers possibly heading to Ipswich, and McKenna replacing him at Celtic Park.
This Ipswich fan @MikeAmos23139 feels Postecoglou will be Celtic’s next coach: ‘Ange will go back, I reckon?’
@KerridgePhil thinks McKenna is waiting for the Premier League again: ‘Personally think he’ll wait for a PL job.’
@Ashley45881988 used just two words: ‘Not worried.’
@JohnnyDuncan is thinking differently: ‘You just never know, Mark, he may personally think we’ve taken a slight step back in momentum, with the bigger number refresh of the squad than he wanted/expected…. And of course depends on if he talks to them and what they offer.’
@fullerflavour thinks McKenna could join Celtic to follow in Postecoglou’s footsteps: ‘I’d guess that Kieran’s dream job in the future would be either Man United or Spurs. Having seen a pathway is possible from Celtic to Spurs through Ange Postecoglou, I wonder if that would have any bearing on a decision if there was one to be made?’
@Spaceraider13 thinks McKenna would join Celtic: ‘Celtic are a massive club worldwide with the lure of Champions League or Europa League every season, which alerts big Premier League clubs when they do well. I think he would take that job if offered.’
And @romseypete agrees: ‘If we can get Rosenior, maybe time to go, Celtic difficult to turn down assuming they want him.’
@JonCouch_NLP is now worried: ‘This worries me. Strong links with the club and the timing too, just days after his ‘difficult atmosphere’ comments. Could it be he feels he’s taken us as far as he can? I say he goes.’
@Jes_Squirrell would swap McKenna with Rodgers: ‘Not really, but if he goes (and I definitely don’t want him to) what an ideal swap Brendan Rodgers would be!’
@dale_63 explained why McKenna going to Celtic would be a ‘massive gamble’: ‘They are a massive club but they don’t have the money that we have here and I mean in English football, they haven’t been great in the transfer window and sold their best players, so for McKenna to go there would be a massive gamble, it’s not like they are 10+ points clear, so no.’
McKenna’s managerial record
Not many clubs can match the pressure that comes with Celtic, so if McKenna were to get the gig, he would be taking a serious step up.
Given that Ipswich have been the 39-year-old’s first managerial job, then he has done seriously well, especially given that he took over a team in England’s third-tier and guided them into the Premier League.
What also needs to be taken into account is the financial side. The Tractor Boys haven’t been splashing the cash, so it makes McKenna’s job even better.
