Julien Alfred has sent a bold message to people who may be willing to try and pull her down as she prepares to challenge for the 100 and 200 meter events at the upcoming Tokyo World Championships.
Julien Alfred has candidly spoken out against harsh critics who have tried to bring her down as she prepares to challenge on all fronts at the upcoming Tokyo World Championships in Japan.
Alfred, who clinched the Diamond League title in Zurich in the 100 meters for the second time in a row, has established herself as a firm favorite to strike gold in the short sprints — though she is expected to face tough competition from the likes of Melissa Jefferson-Wooden.
Speaking on Real Talk With Tee in a recent interview, Alfred — who has battled back from injury — was quick to thank the fans who continue to lift her spirit, especially her fellow Saint Lucians.
“To those who support me, let us stay positive. Thanks to those who support me, even when I was injured, they were sending me well wishes, including my Saint Lucian people,” Alfred said. “Thank you for supporting me through and through, and I love you all.”
A Season of Highs and Challenges
Alfred has been on song this year, particularly in the 200m. Her standout moment came at the London Diamond League, where she clocked a new personal best, world lead, meet record, and national record with 21.71 seconds into a slight headwind (-0.6 m/s).
She has also impressed in the 100m, posting a season-best of 10.75 seconds and winning four of her five Diamond League races. Yet, her season has not been without setbacks. In August, she was forced to withdraw from several meets — including Silesia, Lausanne, and Brussels — due to injury.
Even so, Alfred silenced doubts with a resounding victory in the Diamond League Final in Zurich, storming to the 100m title in a performance that confirmed her form remains intact.
Julien Alfred ‘s Bold Message to Detractors Ahead of Tokyo World Championships
Asked whether her goal was to keep lowering her personal bests, Alfred took a different view.
“It feels amazing compared to last year, but I am not thinking about times,” she said. “Rather, I’m focused on putting together amazing races and seeing the work we’ve been doing come together.”
Alfred also issued a firm message to those who try to spread negativity around her name. “I am a child of God. I do not want anyone spreading negativity over my life. I cannot control what anyone else does, but I am covered by the blood of Jesus.”
