Lions downgrade starting safety to doubtful ahead of Seahawks matchup

Brian Branch did not carry an injury designation after spending the week in the concussion protocol, but an illness could keep him out of the Week 4 game against Seattle

It’s Sunday and it’s Week 4 of the 2024 NFL season, however, it’s a relaxing day for fans of the undefeated Seattle Seahawks as Mike Macdonald and company prepare to take on the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football.

The Seahawks come into the game with a defense hit hard by injuries, with several key members of the group out set to miss the game. Those who will not play include Leonard Williams, Uchenna Nwosu, Byron Murphy and Boye Mafe, while linebacker Jerome Baker is questionable.

Sunday it was the Lions making an announcement about a defender potentially missing the matchup, with Detroit downgrading defensive back Brian Branch to doubtful due to an illness. Branch was on the injury report during the week due to a concussion, but was a full participant in practice on both Friday and Saturday, so indications had been he would play.

His presence may be sorely missed by Geno Smith and the rest of the Seahawks offense, as the Seahawks threw his way often during the 2023 matchup, completing all five passes targeting a receiver Branch was covering, including a memorable touchdown pass to Tyler Lockett.
