Palace boss confirms player suffered injury in training and will miss Everton

The Eagles will travel to Everton this weekend without one of their influential players.

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Chris Richards will miss the game against Everton due to a hamstring injury, which is undoubtedly a significant blow to the South London club. Richards has been a regular starter under Austrian manager Glasner, who ended last season on a high but has struggled to replicate that form this season as Palace still await their first league win of the campaign.

Richards’ injury now means Glasner will need to reshuffle the defence, as Richards played alongside Marc Guéhi and Maxence Lacroix in last weekend’s draw against Manchester United.

It’s not all bad news, though, as there’s a strong chance that Trevoh Chalobah, who signed on loan from Chelsea this summer, has recovered and could make his long-awaited debut tonight. Additionally, Matheus França has returned to training, although Glasner was quick to rule him out of this game, stating it would be unfair given how long he’s been out.

Glasner said ahead of the game:“[França and Chalobah] are available, but França won’t be in the squad after his first complete week with us. After almost six months, it would be unfair for him to be in the squad – but he feels well, and he has no problems. Trevoh will be in the squad, and he is available, but we lost Chris Richards this week. He is not available for the next week as he has a hamstring injury. The other players are available. It’s Cheick Doucouré and Chadi Riad who can’t play, but the others had a good week.”

Struggles for the Eagles

When Palace won their last four home games last season, there were talks that they could challenge for a European spot. However, they now look a pale shadow of the side that was soaring.

They did lose Michael Olise, but have brought in some interesting players, including Ismaïla Sarr and Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah.LondonWorld understands that the manager will be given time to get things right.
