Arsenal given green light to sign Gabriel Martinelli rival who Arsene Wenger nearly signed in 2014

Time is ticking in the summer transfer window and now, Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of one target.

Mikel Arteta and Edu have their eyes locked on the Friday night deadline to get the necessary deals over the line at the Emirates.

From departures to arrivals, it’s poised to be a frantic week in North London, with plenty for the duo to achieve before time runs out.

One area that the manager should be looking to strengthen this week is the state of Arsenal’s attack, particularly on the wings.

Arsenal target Kinglsey Coman shares transfer stance ahead of deadline day

Whether Edu delivers a left or a right winger, one thing that’s for sure is that another body is needed in attack.

Earlier this summer, Arsenal were linked with Kingsley Coman, who has spent almost 10 years of his career at Bayern Munich.

Now, the Gunners’ chances of securing the 28-year-old’s signature could have been handed a boost, as the player’s transfer stance has come to light.

Leading up to deadline day, L’Equipe reported that Coman is hoping to secure a move away from Bavaria this summer, with his mind made up on a transfer.

It’s believed that the Frenchman has ‘decided not to stay’ at Bayern and that ‘several’ English clubs are said to have interest in the winger.

Arsenal’s interest in Coman is nothing new, as Arsene Wenger actually tried to sign the forward 10 years ago before he joined Juventus as a 19-year-old.

Now that the France international is set to embark on a new adventure, it would be interesting to see if the eight-time Bundesliga winner finally gets to call North London home.

Coman could be the competitor that Gabriel Martinelli needs

During his time at Bayern Munich, Coman has contributed to 130 goals in 296 appearances in all competitions, telling of what he could add to Arteta’s front line.

The 28-year-old might not be considered a starter at Arsenal however, what he could offer is something essential to what the squad requires at this moment in time.

Gabriel Martinelli desperately needs competition, with the Brazilian performing way below the standard many have become accustomed to since the start of last season.

Having started the 2024/25 calendar in similarly concerning form, now is the perfect time for Arteta to introduce a worthy competitor to the 23-year-old.

Not only can Coman bring high-calibre competition to Martinelli, but can also offer an experienced head to the squad, with the Frenchman having won a list of accolades during his time in Bavaria, including the Champions League.

Only time will tell if Arteta and Edu set their sights on the winger, with a move away from Bayern almost certain to be on the cards before the end of the week.
