Crystal Palace set to improve bid for Wolfsburg star Maxence Lacroix | SportsView

Crystal Palace are looking to sign a new centre-back before the transfer window closes on August 30.

The Eagles recently lost Joachim Andersen to Fulham in a deal worth £30 million and now they are seeking a replacement for the Denmark international.

They have identified Wolfsburg star Maxence Lacroix as an ideal option but their opening £14m bid was turned down by the German outfit.

According to the Sunday Mirror (August 25, Page 68), Palace are set to improve their offer to seal a transfer for the 24-year-old.

Lacroix is said to be very keen to reunite with his former boss Oliver Glasner at Selhurst Park.

The Frenchman has been at Wolfsburg since 2020 when he joined the club from Sochaux.

He has made 130 appearances across all competitions for the White and Greens, scoring seven goals and creating two assists in the process.

The Bundesliga side want to keep the 24-year-old but face the risk of losing him for free next summer as he has entered the final year of his contract.

Palace have seen some high-profile departures this summer, including Michael Olise, Andersen and Jordan Ayew.

Marc Guehi, meanwhile, could also end up leaving the club in a big transfer to Newcastle United.

Despite the outgoings, the Eagles have only signed Chadi Riad and Ismaila Sarr from Real Betis and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively.

Considering the impressive job Oliver Glasner has done at Selhurst Park, he deserves good backing in the transfer window and so they should make a few quality additions before the deadline.
