Mikel Arteta has been branded a ‘genius’ by Arsenal star that he dropped last season

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a beloved figure at the Emirates Stadium these days.

When Mikel Arteta took the reins at Arsenal, in December 2019, he was taking his first step into management, and the club was a mess.

A huge rift existed between the club and the fans, and the squad lacked quality. Gradually, though, the Spanish coach has been able to turn things around in North London.

Arteta has not shied away from big or controversial decisions, as he forced the likes of Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out of the club. His tenure has not been all smooth sailing, though.

He came under intense pressure earlier on in his reign, as an eighth-place finish in the Premier League saw faith in his abilities wane. However, sporting director Edu has explained why Arsenal kept Arteta through this tough period.

Arsenal have been rewarded for their faith in the manager. Arteta has made the Gunners genuine title contenders again, and has built a young, exciting squad who are able to connect with the Emirates Stadium faithful.

Gabriel Martinelli hails genius of Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta

Arteta clearly has the respect of his playing squad. Certainly, he has managed to individually improve many of them.

The likes of Gabriel Magalhaes, Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, and many others, have all taken huge steps forward under his guidance.

Now, the Gunners’ Brazilian trio have all given one word each to sum up the Arsenal boss, in an interview with CBS Sports Golazo.

Gabriel used the word “passion,” whilst Gabriel Jesus offered “intensity.”

Meanwhile, Gabriel Martinelli called Arteta a “genius.”

The players clearly have full faith in the manager to guide them to the title that they all crave, and are willing to work and give their all for him.

Martinelli needs to step up for Arsenal

Martinelli did not have his best season for the Gunners last time around. He began the campaign as a regular in the starting XI, when fit, but ultimately Leandro Trossard forced his way ahead of him in the pecking order after the turn of the year.

Despite dropping Martinelli to the bench for the run-in last season, Arteta will still have faith in the 23-year-old. The winger has shone for the Gunners in the past, and it is normal for young players to endure fluctuations in form as they develop.

However, he will need to get back to his best this season, as Arsenal can’t afford to carry any passengers if they are to bring their Premier League title dream to fruition.
