After destroying the Cowboys 34-6 in Texas, the Eagles are now 7-2. The Birds currently possess the second seed in the NFC playoff picture as a result of that thumping. Even the most ardent Eagles skeptics, as I have been at times this season, must now deal with this club looking like a real contender after that 2-2 start going into a bye seems like it happened ages ago. Here are five Eagles ideas that are circling around in my head before of Thursday Night Football’s crucial NFC East game against Washington.
A.J. Brown is still in control. This season, the Eagles are 1-2 when A.J. Brown is not playing and 6-0 when he does. According to StatMuse, the Birds are 31-9 when he is in the lineup during his whole Philadelphia tenure. His presence has the power to transform. In his third 100-yard performance of the season, Brown added 109 receiving yards against Dallas. Brown recorded this 44-yard deep ball catch on Sunday, capping up three years of incredible moments.
The Eagles then went on a 28-6 run to extinguish any hopes of a Cowboys comeback, completely ruining Dallas’ season and making the Birds look like real Super Bowl contenders for the first time in 2024. Brown is just 20th in receiving yards this season with 553 yards, so missing three games lowers his overall counting stats. However, he continues to lead in yards per route run (per RotoWire, minimum 100 routes run) and is fourth in receiving yards per game. If he continues this crazy pace and plays the rest of the season, accumulating 14 games overall, his numbers might even out and he might be considered for his first-ever First-Team All-Pro selection. It would be well-earned. When in good health,
he’s been the sport’s best wideout in 2024.
Brandon Graham makes an impact in his final season
Brandon Graham picked up a half-sack against the Cowboys on Sunday. Graham is now up to 11.5 career sacks against Dallas in his 15-year career, by far the most he has over any team.
