Friday afternoon, the Eagles announced on the final injury report of the week that tight end Dallas Goedert will miss his second consecutive game.
Goedert, who has caught 24 passes for 301 yards in five games this season, as one of Hurts’ top targets, suffered a hamstring injury in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns.
With Goedert once again sidelined, the Eagles will turn to Grant Calcaterra to take on an expanded role. He’s caught nine passes for 128 yards so far this season.
Without Goedert, Hurts will likely feature wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith even more prominently as the Eagles could also further commit to a heavy dose of running back Saquon Barkley, in the wake of his 176-yard and one touchdown outburst against the New York Giants last Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles enter Sunday’s game with the 27th ranked passing offense in the NFL, largely impacted by Goedert, Brown, and Smith each missing time so far this season.
If Hurts and Philadelphia’s vertical passing game is going to turn this around starting on Sunday, they’ll have to do so with Goedert on the shelf.
