Massachusetts v Georgia
There’s a reason Georgia football is such a heavy favorite over Georgia Tech for Friday night’s game, with the Bulldogs being a 19.5-point favorite. That’s because Georgia has clear advantages across the board.
Georgia’s defense is much stronger, Carson Beck is the superior quarterback, and Kirby Smart is the far more experienced coach. When you factor all that in, you get a game at home where Georgia is expected to win by nearly three touchdowns.
However, there is at least one factor in this game that works in Georgia Tech’s favor.
Two extra days of rest
Georgia played UMass on Saturday, meaning they have one less day of rest than usual. On the other hand, Georgia Tech defeated NC State last Thursday, giving them two extra days to recover heading into this game.
Will this make enough of a difference for Georgia Tech to pull off an upset? Probably not, because all the factors that favor Georgia will outweigh this small edge. However, these additional days off could make the game closer than Georgia fans might expect.
19.5 points is a big spread, especially in a rivalry game. Just last year, Georgia only beat Georgia Tech 31-23 despite being a heavy favorite. So, covering a 19.5-point spread could be challenging for Georgia, considering Tech’s extra rest.
But as stated, this won’t be enough for Georgia Tech to win. Georgia will have the support of a loud home crowd and numerous advantages on the field. While the Yellow Jackets might cover the spread, a Georgia loss still seems highly unlikely.
