Eagles RB Saquon Barkley Has Bold Eight-Word Response on Facing Giants

Saquon Barkley thought he showed general manager Joe Schoen and the New York Giants enough on the field to secure a lucrative contract in the offseason.

Instead, the Giants offered Barkley two years for a chance at the Ring of Honor and less money than the Philadelphia Eagles were willing to give the former No. 2 pick.

Barkley took the three-year deal, $37.7 million ($26 million guaranteed) from the Giants’ NFC East rival. The former Penn State star will play his former team in Week 7.

On Wednesday, Barkley talked about traveling to New York for Sunday’s contest. The two-time Pro Bowl running back had a bold statement when asked if he felt he had to prove anything to the Giants.

“I don’t have to prove anything to them,” Barkley said, via video from SNY Giants. “Whether I have 300 yards or 10 yards, as long as we win…I don’t have that big of pride or ego. There’s no hate over there.”

General manager Howie Roseman and the players and coaches in the Eagles locker room are the only people Barkley said he wanted to impress on Sunday.

Barkley has been a big help in two of the Eagles’ three wins this season. He rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns in Philadelphia’s season-opening win against the Green Bay Packers. The 27-year-old added 147 yards and two touchdowns on the ground against the New Orleans Saints.

Barkley has 482 total rushing yards and four touchdowns for the season in the five games the Eagles have played.

The 2-4 Giants have a total of 635 rushing yards in their first six games of the regular season.
