Injuries have decreased in the NFL this season, according to league executive Jeff Miller, but the NFC-leading Detroit Lions have been severely affected by them.
The Lions are striving for home-field advantage throughout the NFC Playoffs as they enter the final stretch of the 2024-2025 season, attempting to recover from a roster devastated by injuries.
Detroit had the highest number of players on injured reserve in the league, with 18, before cornerback Carlton Davis III broke his jaw and defensive tackle Alim McNeill tore his ACL, ending his season against the Bills.
The Lions placed these two key defenders on injured reserve Tuesday, along with backup cornerback Khalil Dorsey, who fractured his leg this past Sunday.
On Monday, a major Detroit sports website gave Lions fans an opportunity to voice their frustrations as Detroit prepared to face Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears this Sunday.

The responses varied from fans expressing optimism about the team’s performance to others venting frustration over the recent injury issues.
“Sad and frustrated,” one fan said. “We’re so close, but every week it seems like we’re losing ground health-wise.”
“Let’s win these last three, get the bye, and hopefully, we can put this team back together. Then, it’s just three more wins to the ring.”
Detroit has road games against the San Francisco 49ers on Dec. 30 and a home matchup against the Vikings on Jan. 5 to end the regular season.
“It’s just one loss, why is everyone overreacting?!” another fan wrote.
“Great. I’ve loved this team since I was a kid. I’m 31 now. What I’m seeing is amazing, and I’ve never seen this before from my team. I feel good. We’ll get a #SuperBowl. #OnePride,” another fan added.
One fan suggested a change for Lions owner Sheila Ford Hampton due to the team’s ongoing injury problems.
“Hate the injuries,” the fan said. “If they play their next two games on grass and have no injuries, the owner needs to think about planting grass nearby and putting it in the stadium for games. This is insane.”
