Brittany Brown wins big at Athlos NYC: A look at the $663,000 prize distribution

NEW DELHI: At Athlos NYC an athletic event, standout performances were rewarded with substantial prize money. Brittany Brown emerged as the top earner, taking home a total of $85,000.

Brown’s earnings included $60,000 for her victory in the 200m race, in which she outpaced Gabby Thomas and Anavia Battle.

Brown also finished second in the 100m race, contributing to her impressive earnings.

The prize structure for the event awarded $60,000 to the winners, $25,000 to those in second place, and $10,000 to those in third place.

Gabby Thomas secured $25,000 in prize money, while Anavia Battle received $10,000 for their performances in the 200m race.

Brown posted an impressive time of 12.36 seconds, leading the race. Thomas and Battie followed closely with times of 12.43 and 12.44 seconds. The subsequent finishers earned $8,000, $5,000, and $2,500, respectively.

Athletics is seeing a surge in investment, highlighted by several new initiatives recently announced.

Michael Johnson, a renowned sprinter, introduced Grand Slam Track, which will start in 2025. It will feature four yearly races, each offering $100,000 prizes for top finishers.

World Athletics is planning the first Ultimate Championships to be held in Budapest in 2026, where elite athletes will compete.

The Diamond League, an annual track and field series, will increase its gender-equal prize money next season. Prize pools for each discipline will range from $30,000 to $50,000, and from $60,000 to $100,000 at the final.

In a new development, Alexis Ohanian launched Athlos, awarding $60,000 to the winner along with a Tiffany & Co.

Athlos NYC hosted six track events. Each event had a prize pool of $110,500, with total combined prizes amounting to $663,000.

The events included the 100m hurdles, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m. Several athletes emerged victorious in their respective categories, each earning $60,000.

Jasmine Camacho-Quinn won the 100m hurdles, Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith took first place in the 100m, and Marileidy Paulino triumphed in the 400m. Tsige Duguma dominated the 800m, while Faith Kipyegon was victorious in the 1500m.
