Arsenal rival Man City in £70m battle to land ‘the next Harry Kane’ before Deadline Day

Arsenal only have a few days left to sign an attacker before the transfer window closes, but it is still unclear who could arrive.

The Gunners have been linked with a long list of strikers and wingers in the last few months, with Mikel Arteta keen to add more firepower to his squad.

Arsenal may need another attacker to beat Manchester City in the title race, but with Pep Guardiola selling Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid, they are also in the market for a forward.

Both clubs now appear keen on the same player, but there are several problems when it comes to a deal for either Arsenal or Manchester City.

Arsenal and Man City want Evan Ferguson from Brighton

FootballTransfers have now reported that Arsenal and Manchester City could battle to sign Brighton sensation Evan Ferguson.

The 19-year-old has an asking price of around £70m, but it is claimed that both Arsenal and Man City would prefer to sign him on loan, with a fee then settled later.

Ferguson has scored 16 goals in 65 games for Brighton, but has suffered from injury problems, with the Irish International not featuring since March.

However, despite these obstacles, Ferguson has the potential to become a top-quality centre-forward, in the mould of Harry Kane.

Arsenal target Evan Ferguson could become the next Harry Kane

Kane has been one of Europe’s most prolific strikers over the last decade despite his lack of trophy success, with his combination of physicality and clinical finishing making him a complete centre-forward.

Speaking last year, Ferguson explained why he tries to emulate Kane in terms of his playing style.

“I think Harry Kane, I looked at him quite a bit,” he stated when asked about his striking inspirations.

“I like [Robert] Lewandowski, I like watching [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic. Just some of the things that he’d do, some of the little flicks and the types of finishes that he could produce.”

Ferguson is still young and fairly untested, and his injury record and price tag does raise questions over the viability of a move. However, if Arsenal were to sign him, it would be a result of the potential Arteta sees in him to become a world-leading striker.
