Arsenal issued three-month warning as Man City could owe club millions amid 115 charges

Arsenal could potentially be among a number of Premier League clubs set to benefit financially from Manchester City’s hearing relating to 115 PSR rule breaches, however, a deadline to lodge legal claims looms, according to reports.

City’s case is set to begin next month, with the hearing expected to last ten weeks. An outcome will not be known until the new year, with a potential appeal from Arsenal’s Premier League rivals potentially concluding before the end of the season.

Should the reigning champions be found to have breached rules, the Gunners can feel more aggrieved than most, with Mikel Arteta’s side falling short to Man City as runners-up two years running.

Arsenal missed out on the title by just two points last season, as they aim to become the first side to win the league since Arsene Wenger’s Invincibles in the 2003/2004 season.

Although this will not be firmly behind the Arsenal playing squad as they aim to win a Premier League title once more when starting with Arsenal V Wolves at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.

Premier League clubs considering legal action against Manchester City

It is reported that a number of clubs have reached out for legal advice over potential compensation claims.

Legal experts say there is a six-year period for bringing a claim for breach of contracts, according to The Times. In this case, that would be November this year, six years since German website Ser Spiegel published the Football Leaks document highlighting Man City’s potential breaches.

The Limitation Act (1980) does confirm a six-year limitation period in the UK, however there is an exception when that breach has been concealed.

A lawyer told The Times: “There is a six-year limitation period under the Limitation Act but that is subject to an exception where a person has concealed their breach, in which case you must bring the claim within six years of when you could have discovered the breach acting reasonably.

“It could be argued therefore that the six years might begin from Der Spiegel’s first publication.”

How Much Man City could owe Arsenal amid 155 FFP charges hearing

Premier League rules state that clubs cannot sue each other, but this would be possible if any potential claims were settled outside of court.

If Arsenal are one of those clubs, Football London reports that the North London outfit could be owed millions. This is due to the fact that merit payments are awarded each season with respect to a club’s finishing position in the table.

Manchester City have consistently strongly denied any wrongdoing and said in a statement in 2023 that they can deliver a “comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence” to clear their name.

They added: “We look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.”
