Leandro Trossard has been a polarising figure at Arsenal so far this season, a player who has often been clutch for Mikel Arteta.
Arriving from Brighton back at the start of 2023, Arsenal signed a ready-made addition to their forward line – Trossard arrived in his prime.
After 83 appearances for the club, Trossard has delivered 20 goals and 13 assists, good numbers for a player who is often introduced from the bench.
Trossard was brilliant against Aston Villa earlier in the season – he essentially won the game for Arsenal at Villa Park.
However, the Belgian since made a high-profile error against Bournemouth and his attacking contributions haven’t been inspired, either.
The 29-year-old’s current deal is said to run until the end of 2026 and Arsenal want to protect their position.

Saudi Arabian clubs were interested in Trossard towards the end of the summer, interest that may even return in January.
Surprisingly, Arsenal fans have been extremely positive about the news on X, with many believing that the club are making a smart decision.
It’s recognised that Trossard hasn’t been in his best form of late, but supporters by and large appreciate what the winger has done at Arsenal.
One fan wrote: “Trossard in bad form so far but also has been a clutch player and deserves another contract imo, but if we don’t go big for a ST/LW then I’ll be disappointed.”
Another supporter focused on the smart business decision, explaining that Arsenal could recoup more funds when they eventually sell the Belgian.
They shared: “Leandro Trossard’s new deal is very smart from Arsenal in a business point of view. It’s a simple business transaction – player with longer on a contract sells for more than player with months left.”
Another stated: “Great decision, Trossard is a quality squad player. And can be sold for a higher fee with the contract extension.”
How does Leandro Trossard compare with Gabriel Martinelli at Arsenal?
Right now at the Emirates Stadium, Trossard is predominantly competing with Martinelli on the left wing when all players are fit.
The Belgian has been playing as a number 10 but Martin Odegaard is now ready to fulfil that role once again.
That being said, Trossard has actually slightly outperformed Martinelli in terms of his goals and assist ratio at Arsenal.
Leandro Trossard Gabriel Martinelli
Games 83 191
Goals 20 44
Goal ratio 0.24 0.23
Assists 13 27
Assist ratio 0.16 0.14
Correct as of 21/11/24.
Martinelli would be the more popular choice among most fans to start on the left, an exciting young talent with a higher-ceiling.
However, Trossard could still be marginally the better choice to win here and now, especially when you consider that he averages less minutes per appearance.
