£13m player Mourinho called “fantastic” could join Crystal Palace within hours

Crystal Palace could be about to make a first signing since Ismaila Sarr arrived on August 1st.

Things have gone a little quiet for Crystal Palace in the transfer market as outgoings take precedence over incomings.

The main saga has involved Newcastle and Marc Guehi – with the Magpies making four unsuccessful bids for the England international.

In the meantime – however – a Germany international could join Crystal Palace within hours…

Crystal Palace could sign Robin Gosens imminently

Italian journalist Marco Conterio has now boldly claimed that Robin Gosens could sign for Crystal Palace “in the next few hours” as a potential exit from Union Berlin looms.

The Germany international, who Union Berlin signed from Inter Milan for €15m (£13m) back in August 2023, would arrive to compete against Tyrick Mitchell in the left wing-back role.

It comes after Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Crystal Palace are keen to sign Gosens this summer – as Oliver Glasner “really appreciates” the Union Berlin No.6’s talent.

The 30-year-old made 30 appearances in the Bundesliga for Union Berlin last season, impressively scoring six goals while also providing four assists.

Averaging a goal involvement every three games from left wing-back is a fine return, and it is no wonder that Jose Mourinho called the German a “fantastic” footballer when discussing his skills on talkSPORT back in 2021.

Conterio does – however – somewhat contradict himself by adding that a deal for Gosens depends on whether Guehi leaves, which does not seem likely to happen within hours.

The Italian journalist also writes that Crystal Palace are yet to even make a bid for the man from Emmerich – let alone agree personal terms – so we doubt a deal will be wrapped up as quickly as today (Tuesday 20th August).

Dougie Freedman has an alternative lined up

If Gosens does not join Crystal Palace, Dougie Freedman seems likely to turn to Filip Kostic.

The Serbia international has previously worked under Glasner at Eintracht Frankfurt, and is believed to be a target.

A story from Calciomercato in Italy even claimed that Crystal Palace have opened talks to sign Kostic from Juventus – as the Italian giants aim to sell the Serbian.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Selhurst Park, as competition for Mitchell is expected to arrive.
