Brutal Out Of Conference Schedule”: Alabama Crimson Tide Fans Laugh About 2025 College Football Schedule – Gridiron Heroics

The Alabama Crimson Tide finished the regular season with a 9-3 record and just missed the college football playoffs. Many thought that Alabama’s out-of-conference schedule cost them the college football playoffs this year, but it was two variables that cost them.

Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back Bray Hubbard (18) intercepts a pass intended for Auburn Tigers wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith (5) as Auburn Tigers take on Alabama Crimson Tide at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024. Alabama Crimson Tide defeated Auburn Tigers 28-14.

The first variable was that they lost to the Oklahoma Sooners and the Vanderbilt Commodores in SEC Conference play. The second variable was the Clemson Tigers winning the ACC Title over the SMU Mustangs. That’s what knocked Alabama out of contention.

Alabama Crimson Tide Schedule Released For the 2025 Season

Auburn Tigers tight end Rivaldo Fairweather (13) catches a pass as Auburn Tigers take on Alabama Crimson Tide at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024. Alabama Crimson Tide defeated Auburn Tigers 28-14.

On Wednesday, the schedule was announced for the 2025 season for the Crimson Tide. It will be Kalen DeBoer’s second season with the program. They will open the season on August 30 against the Florida State Seminoles.

Some of the other out-of-conference opponents will be against ULM, the Wisconsin Badgers, and Eastern Illinois. That is exactly not the gauntlet out of the conference schedule that some people thought it would be. They will be on the road against the Georgia Bulldogs on September 27 for the first SEC Conference Game of the 2025 college football season. Alabama has had Georgia’s number as of late.

The Alabama Crimson Tide will have three brutal games in a row in conference play against the Tennessee Volunteers, the South Carolina Gamecocks, and the LSU Tigers. Alabama will last face the Auburn Tigers on the road on November 29 for the Iron Bowl.

Interestingly, Alabama will only have seven SEC Conference games next season. We will see how this schedule plays out for the Alabama Crimson Tide during the 2025 college football season.

Alabama running back Justice Haynes is now in the transfer portal.

Alabama running back Justice Haynes has entered the NCAA transfer portal, ESPN has confirmed.

Haynes started six games for the Crimson Tide this season and finished as their third-leading rusher with 448 rushing yards on 5.7 yards per carry and seven touchdowns. He will have two more years of eligibility at his next school.

The 5-foot-11, 210-pound sophomore from Buford, Georgia, was the No. 2-ranked running back in the 2023 class and the No. 24 overall player in the ESPN 300. He earned 25 carries in a backup role as a freshman, rushing for 168 yards and two touchdowns.

Haynes scored on an 85-yard touchdown run in Alabama’s season-opening victory over Western Kentucky, but he received double-digit carries in only one of his 12 games under new coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff.

Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe led the team with 719 rushing yards, while Jam Miller emerged as the primary back with 760 total yards and eight touchdowns.

After narrowly missing out on a College Football Playoff spot as the No. 11 team in the final CFP rankings, Alabama will face Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Dec. 31. The Tide have now lost 11 scholarship players to the portal since the winter transfer window began on Monday.

  • Alabama center Parker Brailsford will return in 2025, skip NFL Draft

Alabama center Parker Brailsford will return in 2025, skip NFL Draft

Alabama football’s offensive line received good news for the 2025 season. Center Parker Brailsford, who had been projected as an early-round NFL Draft pick, will return to the Crimson Tide.

Brailsford announced the news Thursday, speaking to reporters in Tuscaloosa as UA began preparations for the ReliaQuest Bowl against Michigan.

“Obviously, I’m focused on what’s to come with Michigan and everything,” Brailsford said. “And I’m excited for that game, and also I’ll be coming back.”

Brailsford joined the Crimson Tide through the transfer portal this offseason. He played for head coach Kalen DeBoer at Washington to begin his college career.

The redshirt sophomore said he hadn’t paid attention to draft projections when he was making his decision.

“Just talked to my family, talked to my people,” Brailsford said. “(They) just gave me good advice on what they think about things going on. Talked to some people around the building and see what they had to say, and I think the overall consensus was I should come back.”

Brailsford, who missed most of spring practice due to unspecified personal reasons, said he was excited for a full offseason to focus on improving for Alabama, without going through a coach change and transfer situation again. He said one of his goals for the 2025 season is to gain 10-15 pounds, saying he was currently around 285.

He said he was optimistic about how good the Crimson Tide offensive line could be next season.

“I think we’re gonna be a real good group,” Brailsford said. “I think we’ve had time to really grow, and even a lot of the younger guys, I’ve seen them getting better every single day. I think they’re gonna push the older guys and it’s gonna be a battle every single day.”

Alabama and Michigan will face off Dec. 31 in Tampa. For the Crimson Tide, being there is a disappointment, after it was left out of the College Football Playoff due to bad losses against Vanderbilt and Oklahoma.

Still, a chance to play the Wolverines, who beat both Alabama and Washington on the way to last season’s national title, was a motivating factor.

“Missing the playoffs sucks,” Brailsford said. “But going forward, we’re focused on Michigan. A lot of guys over here were here last year, and we’ve also got the Washington guys too, and we both owe them payback for that.”

  • Jalen Milroe announces his status for ReliaQuest Bowl vs. Michigan

Jalen Milroe announces his status for ReliaQuest Bowl vs. Michigan

Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe has made it official: he will be playing in the ReliaQuest Bowl game on Dec. 31 against Michigan, according to The Wolverine’s Clayton Sayfie.

The second-year Crimson Tide starter made the announcement Thursday morning.

“My thought process right now is finish this game out and get Michigan, so just being my absolute best I can be for my teammates, coaches,” Milroe said, per Sayfie.

Milroe, a redshirt junior who received the William V. Campbell Trophy on Tuesday, is still contemplating whether he will enter the 2025 NFL Draft or return to Tuscaloosa for his senior season.

Milroe had a roller coaster first season under new Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer. Despite combining for an SEC-leading 35 total touchdowns, including ranking second in the league with 20 rushing scores, Milroe struggled with consistency in the passing game with a 15-to-10 touchdown-to-interception ratio while throwing for 2,652 yards on 189-of-287 (66%) passing this season. Milroe also contributed 719 rushing yards on 152 carries this season.

“The mission right now is to complete the season. We have one more mission ahead, which is attacking Michigan, and that’s the whole thought process right now,” Milroe said Thursday, via NextRoundLive. “Being our absolute best so we can take care of our business when we play in Tampa. It’s all about going 1-0, preparing the right way, so that’s where my focus is at. Winning this game, preparing the right way, taking care of my body so we can be our best us. … I will be playing.”

Paul Finebaum expresses concern for Alabama in Year 2 under Kalen DeBoer

Alabama head football coach Kalen DeBoer quickly learned that life in the SEC is never easy. And, Paul Finebaum believes it could get worse in Year 2.

“I think it’s very tricky. I think most people are going to assume FSU will be an easy win. There’s no way you can’t assume that. But that’s it. The rest of the games may not look gigantic, if you’re watching from afar. But if you remember Alabama this year, the only time they played well in the conference on the road was LSU,” Finebaum explained. “The other games, I mean, they were terrible – the Oklahoma game, obviously, the Vanderbilt game. Tennessee, they lost. So, I really worry about this second season for Kalen DeBoer. There’s going to be a lot of pressure, the quarterback situation is going to be a little bit up in the air. Georgia, Missouri, South Carolina, Auburn – they could lose all four.

“That job comes with pressure on Day 1. He already has a lot of pressure. No matter what you say, you look at the season from a distance, ‘9-3, not bad. That’s about what we expected.’ But Alabama fans expected to get into the playoffs, and when that didn’t happen Sunday, it felt flat. He has to improve next year.”

  • Alabama Football Fans Split on Whether Star QB Should Play in 2024 or Opt Out.”

Alabama Football Fans Split on Whether Star QB Should Play in 2024 or Opt Out.”

Alabama football will not compete for a national title in 2024. In their first season under head coach Kalen DeBoer, Alabama achieved notable wins over SEC champion Georgia, rival LSU, and ranked Missouri. However, they also suffered a surprising loss to Vanderbilt, their first since 1984, as well as defeats to a six-win Oklahoma team (24-3) and the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville. This resulted in a three-loss season and an exclusion from the 2024 College Football Playoff. In the NIL era, players who aren’t in contention for a national title often opt out of bowl games if they are eyeing a new school or the pros.

However, on Thursday, Alabama’s star quarterback Jalen Milroe announced that he will participate in the 2024 ReliaQuest Bowl against Michigan, though he has not made a commitment regarding the 2025 NFL Draft. Milroe, a two-year starter, enters the postseason as one of the top quarterbacks in the upcoming draft. While Milroe has confirmed his intention to play in the bowl game, his decision has divided fans.

Alabama Fans Divided on Jalen Milroe’s Bowl Decision
On October 19, 2024, at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe (4) handed the ball off to running back Jam Miller (26) during the second quarter against the Tennessee Volunteers. (Image credit: Randy Sartin-Imagn Images).

According to The Next Round on Twitter:

Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe says he “will be playing” in Alabama’s bowl game against Michigan.

“The mission right now is to complete the season. We have one more mission ahead, which is attacking Michigan…”

On New Year’s Eve, Alabama will face Michigan in the 2024 ReliaQuest Bowl. As the first team left out of the College Football Playoff, Alabama will have Milroe for the game. Despite his struggles this season, including throwing just 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 12 games, Milroe’s decision to play is a surprise. His performance in Alabama’s 24-3 loss to Oklahoma, where he went 11-of-26 for 164 yards and three interceptions, was particularly disappointing.

Milroe’s inconsistent season follows a Heisman-caliber year in 2023, when he threw for 2,834 yards, 23 touchdowns, and only six interceptions. Given his struggles as a passer this year, many fans expected Milroe to declare for the NFL. With him opting to return for the bowl game—and potentially another season—many fans are uncertain about the direction of the quarterback position and the program’s future.

  • Alabama’s Nick Saban endorsed a former assistant as a possible choice to become North Carolina’s head coach.

Alabama’s Nick Saban endorsed a former assistant as a possible choice to become North Carolina’s head coach.

Nick Saban, the head coach of Alabama, is known for being a man of his word and always supporting his players and coaches in every possible way. In this instance, Saban advocated for one of his former assistants.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Saban backed North Carolina’s decision to hire former Alabama offensive coordinator Tommy Rees as the school’s next head coach. Saban’s recommendation carried significant weight, and it’s likely the North Carolina administration took it into strong consideration. However, the Tar Heels ultimately chose to hire former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

Rees served as Alabama’s offensive coordinator during the 2023 season. In 2024, he transitioned to a new role as the tight ends coach and pass game specialist for the Cleveland Browns.

Whenever asked about Rees, Saban has always spoken highly of him. Saban views him as one of the brightest minds in football who will eventually secure a head coaching role at either the college or NFL level if he continues to work hard and advance in his career.

Rees played quarterback for Notre Dame from 2010-2013, throwing for over 7,000 yards and 61 touchdowns. After finishing his college career, he quickly shifted his focus to coaching. Rees won’t be without suitors for long, as his youth and coaching ability will make him an asset to any program. Saban certainly believes in his potential.

  • The College Football Playoff Director Vows To Find Out Who Leaked News About SMU And Alabama.

The College Football Playoff Director Vows To Find Out Who Leaked News About SMU And Alabama.

On Sunday, we found out which teams made the College Football Playoff and which ones missed the cut, just after a report surfaced revealing that SMU was in and Alabama was out. While the identity of the source remains unclear, the man in charge of the selection process is determined to find out.

The 2024 season marks the first time the College Football Playoff will feature 12 teams. If you thought the expanded field would reduce the drama around who deserved a spot, you may have only recently started following college football.

One of the biggest debates was whether Alabama, with a 9-3 record, could still make the postseason over a non-SEC team with more wins but a weaker strength of schedule.

We were supposed to learn the playoff selections shortly after the College Football Playoff show began at noon on Sunday.

However, just a minute before the broadcast started, Brett McMurphy, an insider from The Action Network, leaked the news that SMU was still in the running despite their loss to Clemson in the ACC Championship Game, while Alabama was left out.

This was the first time in the College Football Playoff’s history that a reporter spoiled the reveal, and according to USA Today, director Rich Clark wasn’t happy about it.

Clark, who replaced Bill Hancock as the CFP’s executive director last November, spoke to the outlet on Tuesday and expressed his anger. He said he immediately began trying to find the source of the leak, adding, “I was furious. I told everyone involved, ‘You’ve betrayed the process.’”

Clark clarified that only a select few knew the details. “I know one thing, it wasn’t me. It’s the selection committee, ESPN, and our staff. Someone from that group is responsible.”
