With Darwin Nunez starting on the bench in the Champions League midweek and Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister returning to the team, Liverpool manager Arne Slot has selected a formidable squad to play Ipswich Town in the Premier League tonight.
Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konate, and Trent Alexander-Arnold complete the back four, with Alisson Becker in goal. One of the stand-ins is Kostas Tsimikas.
Ryan Gravenberch, the number six in midfield, only played 45 minutes against Lille in the previous week. He is accompanied by Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai; Curtis Jones is not there due to injuries.
Gakpo and Luis Diaz join Mohamed Salah at the top, with Nunez as one of the backup possibilities. Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott are two other players who might have an influence from the sidelines.
“Ipswich gave us a really difficult first half, but we managed the situation much better in the second half and were ultimately able to show our quality,” Slot says in his official matchday program notes.
“The adage that there are no easy matchups in the Premier League was clearly reinforced by this game.
We were forced to look within ourselves for the solutions since Ipswich made it so difficult and a battle.
“Ultimately, we were able to do so but we should not expect today’s game to be any less challenging, particularly as Ipswich have improved and become more experienced at this level since the first weekend of the season.”
Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Szoboszlai, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Salah, Diaz, and Gakpo make up Liverpool’s starting lineup. Bradley, Quansah, Endo, Elliott, Nunez, Chiesa, Danns, Tsimikas, and Kelleher were substitutes.
Walton, Morsy, O’Shea, Tuanzebe, Davis; Phillips, Greaves; Jaden, Hutchison, Burns; Delap are the starting lineup for Ipswich Town. Townsend, Luongo, Taylor, Broadhead, Enciso, Hirst, Muric, Johnson, Godfrey, and others were substitutes.
