A Detroit Lions fan humorously focuses on one thing after surgery.

The Detroit Lions face a crucial game this weekend against the Washington Commanders. For one fan, it’s the only thing on his mind, even after undergoing surgery.

The Lions will take on the Commanders in the divisional round this Saturday, marking their first postseason appearance this season after earning the NFC’s top seed.

It’s been a thrilling time for Detroit fans over the past two years. Last season, the team secured its first playoff win since 1992.

Quarterback Jared Goff has been a key leader in the Lions’ resurgence. He’s become a fan favorite, with crowds regularly chanting his name around the city.

But one fan’s chant stands out. After having wrist surgery, the young Lions supporter’s only thought when greeting his family was to shout “Jared Goff.”

Detroit truly is a Lions town. When recovering from major surgery, the first thing that crosses the mind is rallying behind the franchise quarterback. This kid knows the drill!

Saturday night at Ford Field will be electric when the Lions and Commanders face off. Last year, Lions fans were a constant source of energy during two playoff games.

Now, anyone coming to Detroit in the postseason will be in for a tough atmosphere. Commanders fans should get ready for the inevitable “Goff chants” in just a few days.

A former Alabama linebacker openly expressed his thoughts after leaving the Crimson Tide for a rival SEC team.

Justin Okoronkwo, a former Alabama linebacker, left the Crimson Tide after the 2024 season and transferred to a Southeastern Conference rival, South Carolina, which will appear on Alabama’s 2025 schedule. Okoronkwo shared the reasons for his decision in a recent interview.

He played only one season in Tuscaloosa after joining the program as part of the latest recruiting class. As a high school prospect, he was regarded as the top recruit from Europe.

Originally from Germany, Okoronkwo’s football journey is still in its early stages. He grew up participating in gymnastics and soccer before focusing on football in recent years, which quickly attracted the attention of U.S. colleges. He ultimately chose Alabama to play under Nick Saban. However, Saban left just weeks after his arrival, and Okoronkwo chose to stick with the program for his freshman year.

During his time at Alabama, Okoronkwo appeared in 12 games as a backup and special teams player, recording 13 tackles. After his first year, he decided to transfer in search of more playing time. He spoke with The State Newspaper about his decision.

“I felt like the starting spots were already set, and it’s hard to compete — especially at a place like Bama — with guys who have more experience than you.”

Veteran linebackers Deontae Lawson and Justin Jefferson have confirmed they’ll return for another season, and Alabama also added Colorado transfer Nikhai Hill-Green. Okoronkwo is expected to have more playing time at South Carolina, which needs to replace two starting linebackers in the 2025 season. However, his comment seemed to suggest that he was avoiding competition rather than challenging himself to earn a role.

The transfer portal has provided college football players with more freedom to seek opportunities when unhappy with their situation. While this can be beneficial in many cases, it also reflects a shift away from developing on the sidelines and working toward a starting role.

Brighton ended their eight-match winless run in the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Ipswich Town.
Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter found the net in the second half for Fabian Hurzeler’s team at Portman Road.
Ipswich came closest to opening the scoring in a lackluster first half, with Liam Delap and Omari Hutchinson testing Bart Verbruggen from range.
However, it was Brighton who broke the deadlock just before the hour, as Mitoma finished from Matt O’Riley’s cutback to become the joint-leading Japanese scorer in Premier League history, leveling with former Leicester City forward Shinji Okazaki on 14 goals.

Christian Walton made a fantastic save to deny Joao Pedro’s volley shortly after, but the Ipswich goalkeeper could do nothing as the visitors extended their lead eight minutes before the end.
A low free-kick rebounded perfectly for Rutter, who turned and finished with ease, with the goal being confirmed after a VAR check.
That crucial win moved Brighton into the top half of the table, up to ninth, while the Tractor Boys fell back into the relegation zone, having scored fewer goals than 17th-place.

“WE ARE READY FOR MANCHESTER UNITED” Georginio Rutter came off the bench to net the second goal that confirmed Brighton’s victory.
The Seagulls’ next challenge is a trip to Old Trafford on Sunday to face Manchester United.
“I’m really happy with the win. It’s always a great atmosphere when we play away,” Rutter told TNT Sports.
“I think it was crucial for the team to win today. The Christmas period was tough. We’re feeling good, and it’s great for our confidence.”
“It felt great to score, but I was a bit nervous because VAR was reviewing it.”

TNT Sports will broadcast more than 500 matches from the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Conference League, along with exclusive Premier League games throughout the 2024-25 season. Fans can access TNT Sports in the UK via discovery+, where a subscription offers TNT Sports, Eurosport, and entertainment in one place. Matches falling within the UK Saturday blackout window cannot be aired live, which prevents games from being shown between 14:45 and 17:15.

Ipswich had been encouraged by moving out of the relegation zone after Wolves lost 3-0 to Newcastle United a day earlier. However, their relief was brief, as a 2-0 loss saw them drop back into the bottom three on goal difference. This match represented a good chance for Ipswich, as Brighton had gone eight Premier League matches without a win. Yet, despite any potential lack of confidence, Brighton showed no signs of hesitation and capitalized on their chances when they appeared. Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter’s second-half goals lifted them back into the top half of the table in ninth place.

“Passionate Alabama Football Supporters Honor Nick Saban’s Legacy”

This year, Alabama football failed to make the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff in its inaugural season under head coach Kalen DeBoer. Despite finishing with a 9-4 record, many felt that DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide fell short of expectations following Nick Saban’s legendary 17-year tenure. Under Saban, Alabama dominated, with the coach set to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2025.

Saban’s impact on Alabama football and college football in general is monumental, having led the Crimson Tide to six national titles and cementing his legacy as one of the greatest coaches in sports history. As Saban prepares for his Hall of Fame induction, Alabama fans took time to celebrate the coach for his historic accomplishments.

A Legacy of Excellence: Congratulations, Coach Nick Saban, on your induction into the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame! #RollTide

This month, long-time Alabama football head coach Nick Saban earned his place in the College Football Hall of Fame. He will be joined by Virginia Tech’s Mike Vick, Ohio State’s Urban Meyer, Wisconsin’s Montee Ball, and West Virginia’s Steve Slaton, among others. Meyer and Saban are also accompanied by head coaches Larry Korver (Northwestern College) and Larry Blakeney (Troy).

Saban began his head coaching career with a 9-2 record at Toledo in 1990, before rising to fame with LSU from 2000 to 2004, where he won a national title. He then coached the Miami Dolphins in the NFL before returning to college football in 2007. Over 17 years at Alabama, he transformed the program into an elite powerhouse, compiling a 206-29 record, producing four Heisman Trophy winners, and winning six national championships. Fans congratulated Saban on his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame this Wednesday.

  • Commanders Identified as Potential Suitors for ‘Big Swing’ Deal Involving Pro Bowler

Commanders Identified as Potential Suitors for ‘Big Swing’ Deal Involving Pro Bowler

The Washington Commanders could elevate their defense by acquiring four-time Pro Bowl defensive end Maxx Crosby through trade.

The Commanders made a bold move by selecting quarterback Jayden Daniels second overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, and a similar aggressive trade for Crosby could significantly enhance their defense. Tyler Brooke of The 33rd Team proposed this trade idea, suggesting that with Daniels on a rookie contract, Washington’s Super Bowl window might already be open. A move for Crosby would bolster their defense and make them a more dangerous NFC team.

Brooke highlights that Daniels’ affordable contract allows the Commanders to make high-impact moves. The last six Super Bowl-winning teams have had quarterbacks on rookie deals, showcasing how this financial flexibility enables win-now trades. Washington also has ample cap space ($99 million) and draft assets (particularly in 2026) to pursue a move for a star like Crosby.

A trade could be plausible as Crosby recently expressed uncertainty about his future with the Las Vegas Raiders, stating “we’ll see” when asked on The Rush podcast (via Tashan Reed of The Athletic).

A trade for Crosby could be a game-changer for Washington, providing the defense with a key player capable of transforming its performance in the same way Daniels has energized the offense.

Maxx Crosby Would Improve Commanders’ Defense Washington’s playoff position owes much to Daniels, while the defense has been inconsistent, ranking 18th in points allowed and struggling against the run, allowing 4.8 yards per carry. Crosby’s impact would be felt immediately, not just as a top-tier pass rusher but also in run defense, where he recorded 13.5 run stuffs despite a tough season with the Raiders, according to ESPN.

Crosby’s ability to disrupt plays is evident in his consistency, as he trails only Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro T.J. Watt for consecutive games with multiple tackles for loss, per KTNV’s Nick Walters. His presence on the Commanders’ defensive line would give them a formidable edge-setter and a powerful force up front. However, his biggest value lies in his ability to rush the passer.

With 59.5 career sacks, Crosby combines various pass-rush techniques, including brute strength, fast hands, quick takeoff, and excellent flexibility. A prime example of his ability to rush the passer is his sack against the Denver Broncos in Week 5, showcasing his swift hands and impressive agility, as highlighted by Ryan Holmes of Put On Raiders.

By adding Crosby to the line, the Commanders would have a complete defensive end capable of capitalizing on the attention paid to other key players like defensive tackles Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne, and Jer’Zhan ‘Johnny’ Newton. Crosby would elevate the play of those around him, making him worth the investment, especially since the Commanders have already made a similar high-profile move in the secondary.

Commanders Are Willing to Make Big Defensive Trades Washington’s general manager Adam Peters showed his willingness to make bold moves when he traded for cornerback Marshon Lattimore mid-season. The four-time Pro Bowler cost them a third, fourth, and sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft, a high price, but the team is relying on Lattimore to shut down top receivers.

The Commanders could have similar expectations for Crosby, hoping he becomes the dominant

Personnel from the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office wear Lions apparel to show their support for Detroit’s remarkable playoff journey.

ALPENA — Employees of the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office, including deputies, corrections officers, and staff, are proudly showing their support for the Detroit Lions as the team pushes toward a Super Bowl win.

Sheriff Erik Smith authorized his personnel to wear Detroit Lions hats while on duty, an exception that will remain in place for the duration of the Lions’ playoff run.

The Lions recently clinched the NFC’s top playoff seed with a victory over the Minnesota Vikings, setting a team record with a 15-2 season.

Their first playoff game will be next weekend, with their opponent determined after this weekend’s games.

“We have a lot of dedicated Lions fans here who have endured many tough seasons,” Smith shared. “This could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them, so I wanted to give them a chance to celebrate.”

Smith acknowledged that recent budget cuts and potential layoffs have added stress to his department, but he believes small gestures like this help lift spirits.

He compared the Sheriff’s Office to the Lions, both having faced challenges and controversies but continuing to work hard toward success.

“We’re like the Lions, an underdog for years, but we keep pushing forward to do our best,” Smith said. “We’re always striving to succeed.”

A lifelong Lions fan, Smith takes on the role of motivator for his staff, much like Lions coach Dan Campbell.

“I try to be a cheerleader for our department,” Smith said. “Letting them wear Lions hats is just a small thing, but it boosts morale and makes work a little more fun.”

After enduring countless losing seasons, Smith and his team are now savoring the thrill of a possible Super Bowl appearance, something the Lions have never achieved.

  • An insider reveals details about Billy Napier’s latest actions as Florida faces roster constraints, amidst his $51.8M contract.

An insider reveals details about Billy Napier’s latest actions as Florida faces roster constraints, amidst his $51.8M contract.

The Florida Gators have emerged from a challenging period and are now making significant strides. The team ended the season with a respectable 8-5 record, which provided a strong foundation for their future. This positive finish came alongside a vote of confidence for head coach Billy Napier, who is now focused on building on this momentum in recruiting. Heading into 2024, Florida boasts a top-11 recruiting class and is still working to secure more talent.

In college football’s ever-evolving landscape, certain regions remain powerhouses for producing top-tier talent, and Florida is undeniably one of them. Texas and Florida consistently produce some of the best athletes in the nation, and Napier is making sure the Gators capitalize on this. Keith Niebuhr, lead publisher at GatorsOnline, recently discussed Napier’s aggressive recruitment strategy on the On3 Recruits YouTube channel. Niebuhr highlighted that Napier is not only visiting current commitments for the 2026 class, including quarterback Will Griffin and cornerback Jaelen Waters, but also heading to southwest Florida to see highly ranked defensive linemen Kendall Guervil and James Johnson.

Billy Napier’s recruitment efforts extend to the IMG Sports Academy in Bradenton, where he focused on offensive linemen. Napier recognizes the importance of building a team from the inside out, and his early visits indicate that he’s prioritizing this strategy. With Florida’s rich talent pool in the 2026 class, the Gators may not need to look far beyond their state’s borders for recruits, which is reflected in Napier’s emphasis on local prospects.

However, with the influx of talent, there are concerns ahead. The growing depth of the roster could become a challenge, as Napier has relied on having a deep squad with competitive options at every position. This strategy may soon be more difficult to maintain due to impending NCAA changes, particularly the roster size limit set to take effect this summer. The new rule will cap rosters at 105 players, a shift that Napier has voiced concerns over, calling it one of the most transformative changes in college football in the past two decades.

Nick Saban responds to the unexpected announcement of his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Nick Saban was caught off guard when he learned of his selection to the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame. The former Alabama football head coach was working as an analyst for ESPN’s College Gameday on Friday evening, ahead of the Cotton Bowl semifinal, when Rece Davis informed him of the honor. Saban, who won six national championships at Alabama, hadn’t been aware of the announcement. “When did that happen?” he asked, surprised by the news, which came exactly a year after his retirement. His ESPN colleagues had known about the recognition in advance, and Pat McAfee handed him a football to commemorate the achievement.

Saban, as is typical for him, humbly downplayed the recognition. “Thank you so much,” he said. “But anytime something like this happens, it’s because you had a lot of great people in your organization. A lot of great players, a lot of great coaches, a lot of support staff, and they made a great team. And I was happy to drive the bus, but we had some great people on it, so thank you so much.”

The National Football Foundation will announce the remainder of the 2025 Hall of Fame class on January 15, and Saban and his fellow inductees will be honored on December 9.
