  • Ferrari’s data shows Hamilton shared one ‘dynamite’ Leclerc trait in Bahrain

Ferrari’s data shows Hamilton shared one ‘dynamite’ Leclerc trait in Bahrain

Lewis Hamilton has completed pre-season testing as he prepares for his Ferrari debut at the Australian Grand Prix.

After giving the SF-25 a shakedown at Fiorano earlier last month, the seven-time champion took to the track in Bahrain for three days of testing.

Hamilton’s outing was fairly uneventful, running only 162 laps across the test. While he encountered no issues with his Ferrari, the Brit only drove more laps than three other drivers: both Red Bulls and Lance Stroll.

Nevertheless, Bahrain was a positive test for Hamilton, who learned more about his 2025 car and working with his team. Hamilton is ‘really looking’ at Sebastian Vettel’s preparations with Riccardo Adami as he gears up for this season with the Italian as his race engineer.

Hamilton’s ‘demeanour’ has changed since testing with Ferrari as he looks more positive than ever ahead of the season. The 40-year-old is looking to stamp his authority with the Maranello outfit, but he will face tough competition from his teammate.

Charles Leclerc is well-established at Ferrari and will be gunning for the drivers’ championship in 2025 after the team missed out on the constructors’ title last year to McLaren. His and Hamilton’s data in Bahrain suggest the latter and adopted one of the former’s ‘dynamite’ traits.

Lewis Hamilton shared Charles Leclerc’s ‘dynamite’ throttle and brake overlap approach in Bahrain

Leclerc is known as one of the strongest drivers over one lap in qualifying. A key reason for this is how he uses throttle and brake overlap through the corners.

The approach consists of using the throttle and brake pedals – slightly – simultaneously to allow for more engine power and faster cornering speed. While it can be risky if not executed correctly, Leclerc seems to have mastered the technique.

    MORE F1 STORIES

As per The Race, Ferrari’s data from Bahrain showed the Monagasque driver using the throttle and brake overlap through the medium-speed corners. Interestingly, Hamilton was also seen using the approach through turn 10 which saw him gain time over his teammate.

This ‘similar’ trait to Leclerc, as journalist Scott Mitchell-Malm put it, could help Hamilton in 2025 if the SF-25 can handle it: “As ever, Leclerc is doing more throttle and brake overlap across the lap.

“This can be dynamite in qualifying in particular and has always been used to great effect by Leclerc, especially in Bahrain where some of the corner layouts really reward the unique way he slows the car down and rotates it while maintaining an unusually high minimum speed.

“At medium-speed corners where the front can get overly stressed, Leclerc somehow manages to get the car rotated while still applying a bit of excess throttle, enabling him to get on full power exiting the corner earlier.

“At the slow-speed turn 10 though, there’s a hint of some throttle and brake overlap from Hamilton that gains him time against Leclerc. Excess throttle was also evident in the Mercedes days, so it’s possible that Hamilton has a similar, if less exaggerated trait to Leclerc, which could help if the Ferrari can handle it.”

Is Lewis Hamilton’s 2025 Ferrari good enough to fight for the title?

Ferrari will head into 2025 as one of the title favourites. But as Bahrain testing proved, McLaren emerged with the fastest car.

Some ‘paddock chatter’ suggests Mercedes have overtaken Ferrari in development after a strong pre-season from the Silver Arrows. Hamilton’s heart will sink when he hears this having just left the team after being frustrated with inconsistent machinery.

Alex Brundle noticed the Ferrari did not look ‘friendly’ to drive at certain points in Bahrain. Hamilton will have to adapt quickly if he is to go up against Leclerc this year.

Guenther Steiner thinks Charles Leclerc could be the lead driver if he copies some of Hamilton’s habits. It is therefore interesting that the latter is using the former’s throttle and brake overlap approach through the corners.

It appears Hamilton is looking for inspiration from Leclerc to find the groove with the SF-25. If the car can handle the approach, the duo could be a force to be reckoned with in 2025.

  • Victor Orta continues to haunt Leeds United as 49ers set for £3.5m blow

Victor Orta continues to haunt Leeds United as 49ers set for £3.5m blow

Relegation from the Premier League in 2023 saw Leeds United lose their stronghold on finances and the club have since been forced into some sales they would not have wanted to make.

Leeds failed to go straight back up and were forced to sell Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville at the start of the current season, while Georginio Rutter’s £40m release clause was activated by Brighton.

But things would have been considerably easier had Leeds been able to cash in on any of the eight that used Victor Orta’s relegation loan clause. The clause allowed players to jump ship on loan after relegation.

Orta had left Leeds in April 2023, but the clause he inserted into contracts remained. It meant that clubs could raid Leeds and land a player with the clause without paying a penny, as long as wages were paid.

Eight players used Orta’s loan and four remain on Leeds books

Off went Brenden Aaronson, Robin Koch and Max Wober to Germany, while Rasmus Kristensen and Diego Llorente joined Roma. Luis Sinisterra and Jack Harrison returned to the Premier League despite relegation.

Marc Roca went to Betis. Last summer, four of those eight players turned loans into permanent exits with Koch, Sinisterra and Roca joining their loan sides permanently while Llorente swapped Roma for Betis.

Wober and Aaronson have returned to Elland Road amid mass scrutiny, while Kristensen and Harrison saw their loans become active again after Leeds failed to go up. Harrison rejoined Everton for a second loan.

Name Loan move in 2023 Move in 2024
Marc Roca Real Betis (season-long loan) Betis (permanent)
Diego Llorente Roma (season-long loan) Betis (permanent)
Rasmus Kristensen Roma (season-long loan) Frankfurt (season-long loan)
Luis Sinisterra Bournemouth (season-long loan) Bournemouth (permanent)
Jack Harrison Everton (season-long loan) Everton (season-long loan)
Max Wober Gladbach (season-long loan) Returned to Leeds
Brenden Aaronson Union Berlin (season-long loan) Returned to Leeds
Robin Koch Frankfurt (season-loan loan) Frankfurt (permanent)

New £6.5m reports show Orta’s loan clause still haunts Leeds

Leeds have made a loss on the four of Orta’s eight loan players they have managed to sell permanently. Koch, Sinisterra, Roca and Llorente are no longer on the books at Elland Road, after leaving in 2024.

    MORE LEEDS UNITED STORIES

But Leeds made a loss on all four. Considerable losses, partly due to relegation but largely because Orta’s loan clause made them entirely useless at Leeds and gave the negotiating advantage to buying clubs.

New reports this week say Frankfurt have agreed a permanent deal for Kristensen, with a deal expected to cost an initial £5m that could rise to £6.5m. But even if Leeds get all their add-ons, it’s still a big loss.

Name Bought for Sold to Sold for Loss
Robin Koch £13m Frankfurt Free (contract expired) £13m
    Luis Sinisterra £22.3m Bournemouth £20m £2.3m
    Marc Roca £10m Real Betis £3.7m £6.3m
    Diego Llorente £18m Real Betis £2.5m £15.5m
    Rasmus Kristensen
    (pending)
    £10m Frankfurt £6.5m £3.5m
    Total: £73.3m £32.7m £40.6m
    1. Leeds bought Kristensen for £10m from Salzburg and will only receive half of their initial outlay. Even if things go to plan, Leeds are £3.5m down on the Denmark defender despite his impressive Frankfurt form.

Aaronson may remain at Leeds this summer, but Wober is expected to be sold and Harrison is expected to be offloaded given he has no future after two loans away. Orta’s loan clause continues to haunt Leeds.

  • Honest Alan Smith makes claim about Leeds United fans amid race for promotion

Honest Alan Smith makes claim about Leeds United fans amid race for promotion

Tuesday night sees another instalment of what has already been a gripping race for automatic promotion in the Championship, with Leeds United currently in pole position.

However, Leeds’ lead of five points over Sheffield United prior to the weekend has been cut to just three with the Whites unable to beat West Brom at Elland Road, and the Blades edging past QPR in London.

Burnley meanwhile, were in action in The FA Cup against Paul Heckingbottom and Sam Greenwood’s Preston. The Clarets suffered a 3-0 loss with Scott Parker making nine changes, focusing on the league.

They have the chance to reduce the current eight-point gap between themselves and Leeds to just five when they go to Cardiff tonight. The pressure is on Leeds, and Alan Smith has identified a key factor.

The Leeds fans have been excellent in the last couple of weeks. The atmosphere generated when Leeds secured late wins over Sunderland and Sheffield United was off the scale, but Smith has a concern.

Talking to FLW, the Elland Road icon said that while the Leeds fans are “passionate” they can prove to be a detriment to the team. So much so, that Smith says promotion with no fans in 2019-20 was easier.

“It can work both ways as they’re the most passionate supporters. The crowd can get a little bit nervous because the prize is so great, and people feel it when you start to get closer to the end of the season.

“The last time we went up was during Covid. No fans, it was probably a little bit easier. I would love them to get promoted with a full stadium. It’s the pinnacle for supporters, getting into the Premier League.”

Predicting Leeds United’s next three fixture before March break

The dreaded international break is back this month. Leeds have three games before a big portion of Daniel Farke’s side jet off around the world to represent their countries, like Ao Tanaka and Junior Firpo.

Leeds three remaining games before March break:

Firstly, Leeds are in action this weekend against Portsmouth. A midday kick-off on Sunday at Fratton Park, where Leeds will look to rid themselves of their lunchtime hoodoo before facing Millwall on Wednesday.

Then, a trip to QPR who gave Sheffield United a good game on the weekend. This Leeds squad will need no reminders of what happened the last time they went to QPR, suffering a heavy 4-0 defeat last term.

Alabama football’s Jalen Milroe named ‘wildcard QB’ after unusual NFL Combine

There’s one area of the NFL Combine that Jalen Milroe expected to dominate. Meanwhile, another Alabama Crimson Tide standout had a great interview. Also, Milroe got named as a “wildcard quarterback” after an unusual NFL Combine decision.

While Milroe is a burner, he didn’t want to show his wheels to the NFL scouts at the combine, according to nytimes.com.

“Milroe is blazing fast,” Bruce Feldman wrote. “(Watch him in 2023 against LSU to witness some spectacular acceleration). He told an NFL coaching staff in one of his meetings last week that he thinks he’d run the 40 in 4.3, but that he wasn’t going to run it in Indy. The staff was curious why Milroe wouldn’t run, because they told him, if he did run that, he’d wow scouts and might boost his stock by a round.”

What will NFL future be for Alabama football QB Jalen Milroe?

It’s not just the speed that has NFL scouts interested in Milroe. Feldman said Milroe also has a powerful arm. Also, coaches in the NFL have heard great things about his work ethic. But his consistency is a concern.

Milroe isn’t expected to go early in the draft. But he said that’s OK, according to usatoday.com.

“I’m cool with being underrated,” Milroe said. “I play in the hardest conference in the country. I played against the number one team in the country, the number one defense in the country. So, if I lack knowledge, I wouldn’t be able to win big games. And 2023, my first year starting, I didn’t lose a SEC game and was playing a lot of different defenses. A lot of things that was unraveled when it came to the game planning and a lot of things I pour into (it) that people don’t see.”

Also, Milroe has a passion for playing the game.

“I love football,” Milroe said. “I love everything about it. (And) I know where I’m at today, I’m going to be even better at this time next year. Everything I try and do is for the betterment of the team and not be one-dimensional at all when it comes to physical attributes on the football field. There’s a lot of things I can improve on, but there’s a lot of things that I can say I can definitely do. What I saw in the SEC has catapulted me to being ready to play in the NFL.”

  • “He’s just majorly underperformed” – Surprise claim made on Derby County player after Ipswich Town release

“He’s just majorly underperformed” – Surprise claim made on Derby County player after Ipswich Town release

This article is part of Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk’ series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Derby County moved to the bottom of the Championship table for the first time this season on Saturday following a 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

The Rams’ loss and Luton Town’s first win under Matt Bloomfield sent John Eustace’s side to the foot of the second tier, after losing three straight league games, picking up just two points in their last 12 matches.

It’s been a frustrating season for the East Midlands outfit, and it currently looks as though the team will suffer relegation straight back to League One unless there is a radical change in form, starting against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Eustace will be hoping that he can get one over his former team after leaving them for Derby just a few weeks ago, but he will need his players to show more endeavour and quality to help get him that first win in charge.

Kayden Jackson named in Derby player debate

Supporters were told by CEO, Stephen Pearce, in March 2024 that the club would have a budget that was going to let them compete in the Championship this season, but those that have arrived in DE24 over the course of the campaign have failed to impress for the most part.

Goals have been hard to come by and the Rams have lacked a cutting edge constantly in the final third, something that will cost them their second tier status if they do not find a fix in their remaining 11 games.

    Derby County manager John Eustace

Football League World has asked their Derby Fan Pundit, Shaun Woodward, which one player has surprised him most this season, either positively or negatively.

He told FLW: “I could probably sit here and talk for ages about sadly the players that have surprised me in a negative way this season, so many of them have underperformed. None of them have reached the heights that we thought they would do.

“The likes of Ben Osborn coming in, major flop. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing this season, his stats are just horrific from where they were last year. We could probably go through most of our frontline if I’m honest and just say none of them have performed to a level that we need to stay in this league.

“But for me, the one I would probably highlight is Kayden Jackson. He came in and he started the season really well. I think he’s got three goals in his first five games in all competitions and since then I don’t know what’s happened to the boy, but it’s like he has just fallen off a cliff with his form and his confidence.

“Everything he was doing in the first five games he has stopped doing. He’s not positive, he doesn’t try and beat a man, he doesn’t look to get a shot off. Everything that he did in his first five games, he stopped doing for whatever reason.”

Shaun continued: “I know the team has been struggling, but he has not rolled his sleeves up and really tried to pull us out of this mess. I think he’s got one goal in his last 30 odd games, which is just woeful for a player that’s supposed to be one of our attacking stars. He’s just majorly underperformed.

“He looks like he’s nowhere near the levels we need in the Championship, and I think it is highlighted even more because he had a good start. He’s shown nothing since. People were talking about him potentially going on to get 15/20 goals this season, which is laughable now when you think about it.

“I think he’s got four in all competitions, and three of those came at the beginning. So I’ve been really, really disappointed with Jackson. I don’t really want to just pick him out because I think a number of them have majorly underperformed.

“But sadly, I’ve got to pick one and he’s probably the one that stands out for me above all the others.”

Jackson’s form has been notably poor for Derby

While there are a number of players that have not pulled their weight for the Rams this season, Jackson has been particularly disappointing, especially after his explosive start to life in black-and-white.

A header against Luton in December was the winger’s most recent goal for Derby, and he has not looked a threat since then.

He has been played on the wing, up front and as a wing-back, with neither Paul Warne nor Eustace being able to work out which position he is best suited to.

His record at Ipswich Town in the Championship and in his final three League One seasons was not impressive, and this lack of threat in front of goal has followed him to the East Midlands with no end in sight to this new drought.

If the Rams do not see an improvement from Jackson before the end of the campaign, then he may just find himself as another on their way out of Pride Park in what looks to be a huge summer rebuild at Derby.

Lewis Hamilton leaves Toto Wolff’s Monaco apartment on rare custom motorcycle

Lewis Hamilton has been spotted leaving Toto Wolff’s apartment building in Monaco on a rare, custom-built MV Agusta F4RR.

The seven-time Formula 1 champion became an ambassador for MV Agusta in 2015. The partnership, which came about through Mercedes-AMG, began with the launch of the MV Agusta Dragster RR LH44, which was unveiled during the Milan Motorcycle Show in the same year. In 2017, Hamilton launched his second project with the MV Agusta team: the F4 LH44.

While the 2015 Dragster RR LH44 was limited to 244 units, and the 2017 F4 LH44 to 44 units, it seems as though the F4RR that the British driver was spotted on in Monaco is a rare, custom-built machine.

The video, shared by Pistons Brothers, shows some of the up-close design elements. The bike features a pearl white and chrome red design with Hamilton’s ‘LH’ monogram on the fuel tank. A bronze plate on the centre of the handlebars states, “F4RR Lewis Hamilton 01/01.”

Speaking about his partnership with MV Agusta in 2017, the Briton explained:

“I am very excited to continue my partnership with MV Agusta. I love working with Giovanni and the guys at MV Agusta, their passion for engineering and attention to detail produces stunning, original looking bikes.

“My projects with MV Agusta are a great way to combine my love of riding bikes with my interest in creative design process so I am very much involved with the CRC design team throughout.

    Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari SF-25

“I am particularly excited to introduce my new bike, the F4 LH44. It looks quite stunning and I had the pleasure of riding on track a few weeks ago in Italy, it feels great and combines the best of both worlds, a race bike for the road. There will be 44 bikes produced so I hope the lucky owners will love it as much as I do.”

Hamilton’s F4RR LH44 boasts a staggering 212 hp and is said to sit at a dry weight of 183 kg.

It’s unknown as to why the former Mercedes driver was visiting the team principal’s apartment building. While the driver has left the team for the Scuderia, the two still have a good relationship.

After the news of Hamilton’s leaving broke early 2024, Wolff confirmed the state of their relationship:

“When he told me first, my next thought was pragmatic, what does it mean? When are we communicating this? What are the pressure points? How are we managing this season going forward, and what is it we are going to do in terms of driver line-up,” he admitted.

“That was the mind, the Mercedes, the team’s mind, kicked in. Now, having slept a few nights on it, it means that our professional journey comes to an end, working together, but it doesn’t mean that our personal relationship ends.

“I’ve found a friend, we’ve built a relationship over the last 10 years, and he faced a very, very difficult situation, taking a decision of where to drive, maybe for the first time since 10 years without being able to brainstorm with me. And therefore, I will always respect the difficulty of the situation that he faced. And in the future, we will discuss whether this could have been done in a different way or not. But I hold no grudge.”

  • More than 150 wildfires rage across South Carolina as state of emergency is declared

More than 150 wildfires rage across South Carolina as state of emergency is declared

A combination of dry and gusty conditions has fuelled the blazes which are also raging across North Carolina and Georgia.

    Monday 3 March 2025 11:49, UK

A state of emergency has been declared in South Carolina as wildfires caused by dry and gusty conditions have forced people to evacuate some areas.

More than 175 fires covered 6.6 square miles in the state on Sunday as the National Weather Service warned of an increased risk of blazes in the region.

The number of fires was down to 163 by early Monday, the state’s forestry commission said.

South Carolina governor Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency on Sunday to support the wildfire response effort and a state-wide burning ban is in effect.

People in eight neighbourhoods were forced to evacuate as several fires raged in the state’s Horry County, officials said.

Soldiers used two Blackhawk helicopters to drop water 600 gallons at a time on the blazes, the South Carolina National Guard said on Sunday.

Meanwhile, firefighters made progress containing a fire in Carolina Forest, where people had been ordered to evacuate several neighbourhoods, according to Horry County Fire Rescue.

Footage showed some people running down the street as smoke filled the sky.

However, Horry County Fire Rescue announced by late Sunday that Carolina Forest evacuees could return home.

The Red Cross of South Carolina said approximately 135 Carolina Forest residents had taken shelter in a county recreation centre.

Image: Smoke is seen rising from fires in Horry County. Pic: AP/Horry County Fire Rescue

The fire in the area had burned 2.5 square miles as of Sunday evening, the South Carolina Forestry Commission estimated.

No structures had succumbed to the blaze and no injuries had been reported as of Sunday morning, officials said.

It came as fire crews were working to contain multiple wildfires burning in four forests across North Carolina.

The largest covered around 0.6 square miles and burned in Uwharrie National Forest – about 50 miles east of Charlotte.

The North Carolina Forest Service said on Sunday that it had been made progress on the fire, reaching about one-third containment.

Image: People flee an area in Myrtle Beach. Pic: AP

The small southwestern town of Tryon in Polk County, North Carolina, had urged some residents to evacuate on Saturday as a fire spread rapidly there.

The evacuations remained in effect on Sunday.

A decision on whether to lift the evacuation orders was expected to be made on Monday after intentional burns are set to try to stop the fire from spreading.

That fire had burned about 0.8 square miles as of Sunday evening, with 0% containment, according to the Polk County Emergency Management and Fire Marshal’s office.

The North Carolina Forest Service was conducting water drops and back-burning operations on the ground and residents should expect a lot of smoke during those operations, officials said.

It comes as at least six active fires were burning in Georgia on Sunday, with nearly 5.8 miles burned in a seven-day span that brought the region gusty winds and low humidity, according to a Georgia Forestry Commission fire summary.

Officials have not said what caused any of the fires.

The dry and gusty conditions fuelling the fires are expected to fade as a cold front pushes out the dry air mass over the southeast of the US and brings rain by Tuesday, the National Weather Service said.

The convergence of warmth, dry air and gusty winds is not inconsistent with the season’s La Niña weather phenomenon, which is associated with warmer, drier winters in the Carolinas, according to North Carolina State University.

  • What Crimson Tide softball needs to improve going into SEC play – The Crimson White

What Crimson Tide softball needs to improve going into SEC play – The Crimson White

Alabama pitcher Jocelyn Broski (#23) pitches against UAB on March 1, 2025.

The Crimson Tide softball team got off to a slow start but has improved, recently setting a program record by winning six games in a row via the run rule. With SEC play starting in two weeks, the team needs to improve in several areas.

Alabama came into the season ranked No. 10 in the nation, but due to a rocky 5-5 record in its first 10 games, it has dropped to No. 22.

The defense needs to improve. With a .960 fielding percentage, the Crimson Tide currently has the 136th-ranked fielding percentage in the country and has committed 20 errors this season.

“Putting all the components of the game together — pitching, defense and hitting — will just make us a complete team,” outfielder Kristen White said. “We have a lot to work on but will get it together.”

The pitching also needs to improve. The team is ranked 233rd in college softball with 6.63 hits allowed per game, near the bottom of the SEC. It is also ranked 78th in the country in WHIP with a 1.37, showing that the team allows too many runners to get on base.

“The defense needs to be better all around. You cannot give up two to three errors a game, and you have to eliminate walking, as many hitters are on the mound,” head coach Patrick Murphy said.

Pitcher Jocelyn Briski needs to get off to a hot start on the mound heading into SEC play to put the Crimson Tide in a good spot. Through 11 games and seven starts, she holds a 3-5 record and currently has a 3.00 ERA, with 41 strikeouts to 21 walks across 42 innings pitched.

Pitcher Catelyn Riley, who celebrated her Senior Day on Saturday, has been a big part of the pitching staff and needs to keep it going in SEC play. Through 11 games and seven starts this season, she has a 5-1 record, a 2.14 ERA, and 18 strikeouts to 13 walks in 36 innings pitched.

Riley said the team needs to work on “Cleaning up the back-to-backs and freebies both on defense and as pitchers.”

The top three hitters in the lineup, Audrey Vandagriff, Larissa Preuitt and Alex Pupillio, must set the tone early and often in conference play. Preuitt currently has the third-highest batting average on the team at .400. Vandagriff has the highest at .462.

Vandagriff and Preuitt also lead the team in hits with 24 and 22, respectively.

A big part of the Crimson Tide’s offense has been the hot start infielder Kali Hevilin has gotten off to. She is hitting .354 with six home runs, 14 RBIs and a 1.175 OPS. If she can keep that going in SEC play, that will be a big boost for the Crimson Tide in the middle of the lineup.

  • Neil MacDonald on council plans for Ipswich town centre

Neil MacDonald on council plans for Ipswich town centre

town centre is a hot discussion topic at the moment.

The first thing to note though, are two things that Ipswich Borough Council (IBC) can’t do, but is frequently asked to do.

The first request is for IBC to reduce the rents of commercial properties. This is something that IBC has little or no control over.

IBC can only set rents for the properties we own and most properties in the town centre are owned by private landlords. They are free to charge rent at whatever level they want, and the council cannot tell them what to charge.

The second request is to lower business rates. The level of business rates is not something the council has any control over.

They are set nationally by the government. However, because the council is responsible for collecting the money and businesses receive bills from IBC, many people think we set the rates too.

Last Autumn, the Labour government set out a pathway to permanently lower tax rates on the high street.

This is based on an intention to introduce lower rates for retail, hospitality and leisure (RHL) properties with a rateable value (RV) under £500,000 from April 2026.

This would be financially sustainably by charging a higher rate on all properties with RV of £500,000 and above, which includes the majority of large distribution warehouses such as those used by the online giants.

Until 2026, 250,000 RHL premises will see 40% relief off their bills next year.

The new RHL tax rates will provide meaningful support to RHL businesses of all sizes in recognition of the role they play in attracting footfall to the high-street.

A government discussion paper has also been published to engage with businesses months on how to further reform the system outside of RHL.

Another common question asked is: who allows businesses that are clearly money laundering enterprises to operate in the town centre? This is not an IBC responsibility. Suspicions of Money Laundering should be reported to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.

Any suspected money laundering activity linked to council-owned premises or businesses in the town centre can be referred to the council’s Corporate Fraud Service for investigation.

The Corporate Fraud Service is contactable at fraud@ipswich.gov.uk. Such investigations are supported by the National Crime Agency and other relevant law enforcement agencies.

Another common question is: why don’t you stop more vape shops or American Candy Stores opening?

The answer? Once planning permission has been granted for a shop, other shops can come along and claim the same rights at the same shop.

Everyone hates to see litter. IBC puts a lot of effort into picking up litter in the town centre. I think the town centre is looking better for that effort.

The town centre team which operates seven days a week, 365 days a year, plus 24 hr call out. Six team members start at 5.30am and put in a shift to clean the town for the day ahead. A smaller shift replaces them in the early afternoon and keeps on top of litter during the day.Ipswich Town-themed bins are placed across the town (Image: Neil MacDonald)

Certain areas of the town centre are pressure washed monthly. A scrub deck on one of the small sweepers completes more regular pavement cleaning. Disinfectant is liberally applied in places where people urinate, such as the alleyway next to the Conservative Club.

ITFC-themed bins put in after the Premier League return look great. The aim is to boost recycling and keeping the town clean.

There’s no magic bullet for Britain’s high streets. Little by little, we can bring life back into Ipswich town centre.
