Wisconsin Football Transfer QB Tyler Van Dyke Visiting SMU

The Wisconsin football team’s former starting quarterback, who saw limited action this past season due to injury, has lined up a visit with a program that made the College Football Playoffs.

Van Dyke, who has thrown for 7,891 yards and 55 touchdowns in his collegiate career, entered the transfer portal earlier this offseason after just one season in Madison.

The move to enter the portal wasn’t entirely unexpected, given the circumstances surrounding Van Dyke’s tenure with the Badgers. The graduate transfer’s 2024 season was cut short after tearing his ACL during a Week 3 home game against Alabama.

His future with Wisconsin became even more uncertain following the firing of offensive coordinator Phil Longo, who played a pivotal role in bringing him to the program. Van Dyke’s unclear recovery timeline from the ACL injury only added to the challenges that Luke Fickell and his staff had in planning for the future.

During his time with Wisconsin, Van Dyke appeared in three games, completing 43-of-68 passes for 422 yards and one touchdown while adding a rushing score.

Before transferring to Wisconsin, Van Dyke put together an impressive resume at Miami, where he amassed 7,469 passing yards, 54 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions over 32 games (28 starts). He also maintained a career completion rate of 63.7%.

The Mustangs are coming off an 11-3 season and a College Football Playoff appearance under head coach Rhett Lashlee. SMU is looking to replace starting quarterback Preston Stone, who entered the transfer portal and wound up at Northwestern.

Notably, Lashlee was the offensive coordinator during Van Dyke’s breakout redshirt freshman campaign when the two were with the Miami Hurricanes.

Van Dyke’s visit to SMU could mark the next chapter in his collegiate career, offering him an opportunity to showcase his talents for one final season of eligibility.
