This week’s top high school football matchup in Georgia features two teams with as much history as any program in the state. Valdosta and Carrollton are both teams with deep traditions and strong community backing, and that will be evident this Friday night.
Valdosta, from Region 1-6A, is facing an undefeated Carrollton squad. The game will be broadcast on Peachtree Sports Network starting at 7:30 p.m., and digitally on Atlanta News First, ZEAM, and the National Federation of High Schools Network. Carrollton is ranked second in Georgia, while Valdosta is ranked 17th according to the On3 Massey Ratings. This game is a rematch of last year’s second-round playoff contest, where Carrollton won 45-28.
The On3 Massey Ratings, which were officially used during the BCS era and have ranked college and high school sports teams since 1995, evaluate teams based on game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.
Tale of the Tape… Valdosta is led by Georgia commit Todd Robinson, a 2025 prospect. He threw for a career-high 414 yards and five touchdowns in a 35-27 win over Walton last week. Despite dealing with an ankle injury, Robinson has been playing through it and is expected to be fully healthy at Trojan Stadium on Saturday.
Carrollton is led by new Colorado commit Julian Lewis. This season, he has passed for 2,842 yards and 40 touchdowns, completing 77.8 percent of his passes. Lewis made headlines on Thursday by committing to Colorado during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show and was later featured on SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt.
This game is full of talent, particularly on the Carrollton side. Among the prospects is reclassified safety Zelus Hicks, who is committed to Texas. Like Lewis, Hicks is only in his third year of high school but will graduate early, joining their respective college programs in 2025 instead of 2026.
