FROM THE FIELD: GEORGIA VS. TENNESSEE 2024

  • The Bulldogs performed for a crowded Sanford Stadium and a national television audience. Sanford Stadium also unveiled a really awesome light show and pyrotechnics. After the Oxford setback, the Dawgs had to go hot and handle the Vols on a cold night. In his news conference following the game, Kirby Smart stressed how badly the Bulldogs are currently playing. As the season goes on, it is normal to anticipate an increase in injuries. All season long, Georgia has struggled with injured players. Dawgs supporters should keep in mind that Kirby’s continuously excellent recruiting program is the reason Georgia can contend with the conference’s most formidable teams while having a roster full of injuries.

It was a noisy throng. The team seemed energized by the raucous reaction from the Dawgs in the stands after Coach Smart and a few players requested noise. Anyone who went will tell you that this was the noisiest throng Sanford has seen in a long time. Slow starts continue to be a problem. In the opening quarter, Tennessee led 10-0, but the Dawgs eventually got going and dominated the Vols, outscoring the visitors 31-7 in the last three quarters. At the end of the evening, Carson Beck was 24/40 for 347 yards and two touchdowns. He picked up a vital first down with another scammer, and one of those touchdowns was a keeper. Beck’s great night was partly due to his offensive line’s blocking.Despite moving the ball all night, Tennessee needed to make explosive plays to put Georgia on its tail, but they never came. Nico Iamaleava did not score any touchdowns despite passing for 167 yards. Georgia’s last possession was a stunning item. Georgia began the drive from the 8-yard line, drove the field, and scored on the 12th play to grind out six minutes of the clock and put a climax on the triumph. Even after the Bulldogs added the insurance score, the level of supporter noise remained constant, despite my failure to closely monitor the crowd for departures as the game came to a close. Georgia still has two games remaining in the regular season that are not in the conference.
