Oliver Glasner hints Crystal Palace academy star could make debut vs Wolves, replacing Adam Wharton

Crystal Palace are looking for a third successive win on Saturday while facing off against Wolves.

After a troublesome August through until early October, things are now looking up for Crystal Palace after back-to-back wins over the past week.

The Eagles defeated Tottenham last Sunday to end an eight-game winless streak in the Premier League and followed it up by advancing to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a win over Aston Villa.

Saturday at 5:30 pm, the Premier League campaign resumes for Oliver Glasner and it sees a trip to the Molineux against Wolves.

It is a real six-pointer at the bottom of the league as a win would move the Eagles seven points above Old Gold and begin to make relegation look like a distant fear.

However, the team Glasner could name for Crystal Palace is far from full strength – with two major injuries.

Oliver Glasner hints at Justin Devenny debut vs Wolves

Wharton is due to undergo surgery at long last, while Eze will miss the game against Wolves and also next week’s game against Fulham at Selhurst Park.

Replacing Wharton in the starting line-up could prove difficult for Glasner due to Jefferson Lerma also being out injured.

However, upon being asked about the prospect of Trevoh Chalobah being a midfield option, Glasner instantly jumped to another name as a surprising solution.

“I haven’t thought about it”, Glasner admitted about Chalobah in midfield.

“The back three are working together quite good. I’ll always prefer keeping those three together.

“As long as we have a solution – Cheick [Doucoure] and Justin Devenny are available.”

Who should start in midfield for Crystal Palace?

For Crystal Palace fans, the good news is Glasner is no longer discussing Wednesday’s hero Daichi Kamada as an option in central midfield.

With that in mind, Will Hughes‘ partner is almost certain to be one of either Doucoure or Devenny.

Doucoure is just coming back from injury – and so playing the entire 90 minutes is almost certainly not on the cards.

This means even if Doucoure starts, chances are Devenny will find himself making a debut at some stage from the bench.

The 21-year-old Northern Irish midfielder is an academy starlet and so if he does get a chance we are sure that the travelling support will be behind him all the way.
