Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that Paulo Fonseca, the manager of AC Milan, is worried about Christian Pulisic’s comeback from his international football career.
Two days before AC Milan’s Serie A match against Udinese, the star player for the US men’s national team is scheduled to return to Italy while on international duty. After a lengthy flight from Mexico to Milan, Pulisic will have little time to prepare for the match, thus manager Fonseca is concerned that he might not receive Pulisic at his best in their next Serie A match. The former winger for Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund is off to a great start in 2024–25, having made seven league games and contributing two assists.
While the manager of the Rossoneri club is still worried about the star player’s fitness, Mauricio Pochettino, the new manager of the United States national team, showered the attacker with praise and talked highly of his present form. The former Tottenham coach emphasized the value of safeguarding a player of Pulisic’s caliber while remaining circumspect ahead of the national team’s next games.
Before his first match as the USA’s manager, Pochettino told reporters, “I think he’s a fantastic player, one of the best offensive players in the world.” I believe that we are a little concerned that we might need to defend [Pulisic] at times. We can tell that he was a little worn out when he came, but I had previously advised him to try to assist the club and develop a strong rapport with them. And since he has such great skill, he needs to be in shape, happy, and powerful when we truly need him.
The Americans will play a friendly encounter against Panama on Sunday to open the current international break. On Wednesday, they will play an away game against Mexico.
