There was a time not too long ago when the Pittsburgh Steelers boasted one of the best offenses in the NFL.
An offensive skill grouping that consisted of Ben Roethlisberger, Le’Veon Bell, and Antonio Brown, for two years, the fourth man that formed the Killer B’s was Martavis Bryant.
And while all are long gone from their days in the black and gold, Bryant has found a new team.
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN , The Washington Commanders have signed Bryant to a one-year contract.
Bryant is Back
Bryant, who was as dynamic a deep threat as the league had seen, was lost to suspension multiple times for violating the NFL’s policy on marijuana use, which has been said been lifted and is no longer in effect.
At just 23 years old and in his first season in the league, Bryant averaged an insane 21.1 yards per reception and hauled in eight touchdowns. A force that paired perfectly with Antonio Brown’s playstyle, it looked like the WR duo and Killer B quartet would thrive for years.
But 2017 was the final run for the group, as Bell would hold out in 2018 and Bryant departed for the then Oakland but now Las Vegas Raiders.
Bryant also had a stop in Dallas last season, but he never appeared in a game.
The first step to doing that is making the roster in Washington.

The Raiders are waiving Keelan Doss Per a statement by the Raiders, the team waived injured wide receiver Keelan Doss in a corresponding move to the signing of Peterman. The Raiders signed Doss at the beginning of training camp after Michael Gallup announced his retirement from the NFL. The Raiders initially signed Doss as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He has 17 total receptions for 166 yards in his NFL career. Per the Raiders statement, if Doss clears waivers, the team plans to add him to the reserve/injured list.
New York Yankees for 14 games but he has already made a massive impact on their roster. Now they are going to be without him for an extended period of time. Manager Aaron Boone told the New York media on Tuesday evening that Chisholm Jr. has a UCL injury and that a trip to the IL seems likely. The severity of the injury is not yet known, but there is a possibility this could sideline him for a while. The Yankees acquired Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins just before the MLB trade deadline and he has been an immediate impact player. Entering play on Tuesday, Chisholm Jr.
was hitting .316 with a 1.062 OPS and seven home runs with the team. Just for context on those numbers, a 1.062 OPS is the type of number that Aaron Judge, Juan Soto and Shohei Ohtani put up. So for the past 14 games Chisholm Jr. has basically been hitting like like one of the best players in baseball. For a team that needed to extend its lineup and add more depth to it, he had been everything the Yankees could have hoped for. Now he is out of the lineup. For the full season with Miami and the Yankees he has already set career highs with home runs and RBI. The Yankees are 9-5 since he joined the roster and have climbed back to within half a game of the top spot in the American League East after going through a nearly two-month slump. Chisholm’s bat, speed and versatility have played a significant role in
up for the Miami Dolphins, making quarterback Tua Tagovailoa a little antsy. Per Pro Football Network’s Adam Beasley, Beckham hasn’t practiced or played with the Dolphins since signing a one-year, $3M deal in May and is still on the PUP list. In a Tuesday news conference, Tagovailoa noted he’s worked with Beckham some this offseason but wants more reps with the wideout to see how he fits in the offense. “I think it’s more confidence for him once he’s able to start running and catching balls, and seeing it in that sense with guys across from him,” Tagovailoa said. “
Then also, he has to know where to line up, and then what that play is, if he has a motion or if he doesn’t have a motion. So that’s where I think we’ll be one of the tougher parts. And it’s not just for him. It’s for everyone and anyone trying to get to know the playbook in this offense.” Tagovailoa’s comments should spark some concerns, especially with multiple Dolphins pass-catchers battling injuries.
WR Jaylen Waddle hasn’t been practicing due to a minor, unspecified injury. Meanwhile, rookie WR Tahj Washington is on the PUP list. Former Pro Bowler Beckham is no longer considered elite but could still provide needed depth. In 14 games with the Baltimore Ravens last season, the 31-year-old had 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdown catches. Whether Beckham returns soon or not, the Dolphins offense shouldn’t backslide in 2024. In 2023, Miami finished second in the league in points scored (29.2), and star WR Tyreek Hill led the NFL in receiving yards (1,799 in 16 games).
A masterclass courtesy of Chris Sale and Raisel Iglesias helped the Braves to a 1-0 win over the Giants last night, but most of the second half of the season has been a difficult watch. Perhaps the worst of it came early last week, when Atlanta was swept at home by Milwaukee in a series that saw them outscored by more than 20 runs. It was a miserable experience for Braves Country, and it brought up a trade that will continually be questioned so long as trends continue. The deal I’m talking about is the three-team trade that brought Sean Murphy to Atlanta and sent William Contreras to Milwaukee.
Here’s a recap: Braves get: C Sean Murphy Athletics get: LHP Kyle Muller, RHP Freddy Tarnok, RHP Royber Salinas, C Manny Piña, OF Esteury Ruiz (from Brewers) Brewers get: C William Contreras, RHP Joel Payamps, RHP Justin Yeager Somehow, the Brewers came away with Wild Bill Contreras and only gave up Esteury Ruiz, which is just the Athletics being the Athletics. The Braves received Sean Murphy, the centerpiece of the entire trade at the time. Contreras came out of the gates with the Brewers on fire, hitting .289 at the plate with 17 home runs, good for an .825 OPS while playing very good defense behind the dish last season.
The Braves targeted Murphy because of his ability to call a game and his elite defense, but Contreras ended up dramatically improving in that area following the move. Though he’s regressed defensively this season, Contreras is still one of the best catchers in baseball, boasting a .286/.359/.457 slash line and a 126 OPS+. Meanwhile, the Braves have been without Sean Murphy for much of the season due to an oblique injury, and when he has been healthy, he’s barely been a replacement level player, recording an unsightly 91 OPS+. Even more frustrating has been the way the Braves have utilized Sean Murphy. He’s always been a player that has produced better results when playing nearly everyday.
With Travis d’Arnaud in the fold, Murphy has never been an everyday fixture in the lineup since joining the Braves, and it’s even become more like a 50/50 split as the season continues. From a contractual perspective, the Braves are also paying Sean Murphy a lot more than the Brewers are paying William Contreras. Murphy could always turn things around next season and beyond, but there’s no way to get around the fact that Contreras has been the significantly better player since the trade, and the Braves didn’t need to give up a slew of top prospects to acquire him. It was a weird deal when it happened, considering Contreras was already an All-Star with the Braves before the trade, and it’s only looking worse as time goes on.
